Texans expected to sign four-time Pro Bowl RB Nick Chubb, pending physical Houston, you have a No. 2 running back.
Nick Chubb is headed to Houston.
And if all goes to according to plan, he won't be leaving anytime soon.
According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the veteran Cleveland Bronwos running back is expected to sign with the Houston Texans on Monday if he passes a team physical. A bruiser back known for his physical play style, Chubb, is on the verge of finding a new home in the AFC following a promising career in the AFC North.
One of the best available players on the free-agent market, Chubb has the potential to kickstart his career as a No. 2 option for Houston. The Texans could pair Joe Mixon with the four-time Pro Bowler to shore up their backfield, which would become one of the league's most interesting tandems entering this fall.
Chubb, who's dealt with injuries over the past two seasons, figured his time was coming to a close in Cleveland The Browns selected Quinshon Judkins and Dylan Sampson in the second and fourth rounds of the NFL Draft. They also brought Jerome Ford back from last year's roster.
The Texans need a stable secondary option with Mixon deal with lower body injuries over the last year. While he did rush for over 1,000 yards in his first season on a new three-year contract, he also missed three games with an ankle injury in September.
Dameon Pierce was the Texans' No. 2 option, who accumulated only 293 yards and two touchdowns, and 92 of those yards came on one play. Mixon also led all Texans running backs in the receiving department by a significant margin, including special teams standout Dare Ogunbowale.
Houston also drafted Woody Marks in the fourth round, so he could have a role in the passing game, thus making Chubb a limited runner. That might benefit both parties since Chubb is coming off a down year where he averaged 3.33 yards per attempt.
While his numbers have dwindled, Chubb remains a proven back. A four-time 1,000-yard runner since being drafted out of Georgia, his free agency stock unquestionably took a hit since it was clear he'd be a secondary force after dealing with multiple knee surgeries.
Since 2023, Chubb underwent multiple procedures to repair his medial capsule, meniscus, MCL and ACL in his left knee, the same location where he tore his MCL, LCL and PCL in a 2015 injury during his time at Georgia.
When healthy, Chubb has been one of the league's top running backs. He's a four-time Pro Bowler and rushed for at least 1,000 yards from 2019-2022. His best season came in 2022, where he surpassed 1,525 yards and 12 touchdowns.
The Texans return for mandatory minicamp on Tuesday.

Cowboys Fans Dream Crushed As Nick Chubb To Sign With 'The Other' Texas Team originally appeared on Athlon Sports. FRISCO - The Dallas Cowboys' backfield has undergone a complete makeover since the end of the 2024 regular season. ... but for some observers of "America's Team,'' is hasn't been enough. Advertisement Last year, this was essentially a one-man show run by Rico Dowdle ... with Ezekiel Elliott also hanging out. Now, in free agency, Dallas both Miles Sanders and Javonte Williams and then Cowboys then added Jaydon Blue and Phil Mafah on Day 3 of the NFL Draft. Is that enough? Veteran free agent Nick Chubb remained unsigned all offseason long ... and he has been in the gym, posting some footage of himself going through workouts. That's helped some Cowboys fans think he should land in Texas. And he is about to - with "the other'' Texas team. Injuries have haunted Chubb for the past two seasons, but the Houston Texans - who already have Joe Mixon - think there is something there. Advertisement So ... Pending him passing his physical, word is the Cleveland Browns fan favorite is signing with Houston. At this point, the Dallas backfield is crowded with four potential contributors already in the building. One telling point on Chubb is that Cleveland completely turned the page by drafting two running backs ... just as Dallas did. The validity of questioning the Cowboys backfield exists. But the Chubb experiment is not happening ... at least not in this part of Texas. Gainesville teen runner honors fallen heroes, one mile at a time
The Brief Fifteen-year-old Andrew Collinson is planning a one-mile run to pay tribute to fallen South Fulton Capt. Helio Garcia, who died in a crash two months ago. Collinson says he's hoping to see a big turnout from local law enforcement and public safety departments to support Capt. Garcia's widow, who is also attending. Collinson joined Running 4 Heroes when he was 13 and has likely participated in over a hundred runs to raise money and awareness for the families of fallen heroes. GAINESVILLE, Ga. - Probably the only thing 15-year-old Andrew Collinson loves more than running is his community's first responders. The Hall County teen could be spending his summer vacation relaxing like most people his age. Instead, he's dedicated to making sure the families of those killed while protecting and serving our communities know that someone's still thinking about them. What we know At around 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Collinson will lace up his sneakers and hit the ground running to honor fallen South Fulton Capt. Helio Garcia. He's planning a mile-run through the Mundy Mill neighborhood to pay his respects just two months after Garcia was killed in a head-on crash. Garcia was one of the first officers to serve with the South Fulton Police Department. Collinson is anticipating a law enforcement escort and a strong turnout from various public safety departments, all united in support of Capt. Garcia's widow, who will also be present. Dig deeper This isn't the teen's first mile for a fallen first responder. Collinson joined the fundraising nonprofit Running 4 Heroes when he was 13-years-old, and has likely been on over a hundred runs so far. Besides the simple satisfaction of keeping himself in good health, he told FOX LOCAL's Judayah Murray that the real reward is in knowing the loved ones of these fallen heroes feel seen. "When you go in the comments on YouTube, you'll see things like, 'Thank you for running for my brother,' or, 'sister,' and stuff like that," he said. "And it's just amazing to see." According to the Running 4 Heroes website, the flag Collinson will carry on his run will be given to Garcia's family or police department afterward, along with a handwritten note. The Source FOX LOCAL streaming host and producer Judayah Murray interviewed Andrew Collinson and his grandfather, Rick Collinson, for this article.
