Glasgow stars in first trailer for new Hollywood blockbuster The Running Man

Yahoo01-07-2025
Glasgow plays a starring role in the first official trailer for a new forthcoming Hollywood blockbuster.
The trailer for the much-anticipated reboot of action-packed sci-fi film 'The Running Man' - which starred Arnold Schwarzenegger - has been released.
'Top Gun: Maverick' and 'Twisters' star Glen Powell leads the cast of the reboot, taking on the role played by Schwarzenegger in the 1987 movie, alongside Josh Brolin, Michael Cera and Colman Domingo.
Based on Stephen King's 1982 novel of the same name, 'The Running Man' (1987) centres on Ben Richards, a falsely convicted policeman in dystopian America who gets his shot at freedom when he must forcibly participate in a TV game show where convicts must battle killers for their freedom.

Scenes for the Paramount Pictures production were shot on a number of city centre streets in Glasgow - including Hope Street, Renfrew Street and St Vincent Street - in November last year.
The trailer begins with Glen Powell's character in Union Place off Gordon Street near to Glasgow Central station, with other Glasgow locations such as the SEC Armadillo, The OVO Hydro, Cadogan Square and the Savoy Centre also noticeable in the trailer.
Speaking about the reboot in December 2023, director Edgar Wright, the English filmmaker behind 'Hot Fuzz', 'Baby Driver' and 'Shaun of the Dead', explained that the reboot would not necessarily be a remake of the 1987 movie, but a more faithful adaptation of Stephen King's novel.
The 1987 movie, which was a moderate box office success in the United States, is now considered something of a cult classic.
The Running Man is set to be released by Paramount on November 21, 2025.

Stephen King Compares Donald Trump's Presidency to ‘a Horror Story'

Stephen King couldn't write anything as terrifying as Donald Trump's America. In a new interview, the author answered a series of fan questions for The Guardian, including 'If you had to invent an ending for Trumpian America, what would it be?' 'I think it would be impeachment – which, in my view, would be a good ending,' King responded. 'I would love to see him retired, let's put it that way. The bad ending would be that he gets a third term and takes things over completely. It's a horror story either way. Trump is a horror story, isn't he?' More from Rolling Stone New Analysis Finds Trump Family Has Raked in $3.4 Billion Off the Presidency Jimmy Kimmel Says He Obtained Italian Citizenship to Flee 'Unbelievably' Bad Trump Administration 'Diversion': Judge Tears Apart Trump Admin Order to Unseal Ghislaine Maxwell Grand Jury Records King has been an outspoken critic of Trump for years, sharing his thoughts on social media on an almost-daily basis. In June, he tweeted, 'Deep down in his heart, I believe Trump knows he's an incompetent asshole.' He recently added, 'Trump is like a spoiled child. When he doesn't get his way, he does a tantrum.' In 2022, King was asked for his views on Trump during an interview for the Sunday Times and he didn't mince words. 'I happen to think that Trump was a horrible president and is a horrible person,' King said. 'I think he actually engaged in criminal behavior and, certainly, I felt that he was a sociopath who tried to overturn the American democracy not out of any political wish of his own but because he could not admit that he had lost.' Ahead of the 2024 election, King speculated that Trump had refused to debate Democratic nominee Kamala Harris despite an official announcement. 'Trump has announced he won't debate Kamala Harris,' King wrote. Trump spokesperson Steven Cheung responded in a statement to Newsweek, 'Stephen King is a dumbass.' Elsewhere in his interview with The Guardian, King reflected on the many adaptations of his books and stories that been made recently, including The Life of Chuck and The Monkey. 'I'm still excited when somebody makes a movie out of something that I've done,' he said. 'I was excited to see The Monkey earlier this year, and The Life of Chuck. I'm very excited to see [Edgar Wright's remake of] The Running Man, which was filmed in England. I don't write with movies in mind. I just write what seems like a good story that people and I will enjoy. Then whatever happens to it happens. That's fine. I like the movies, but I think they're different things, like apples and oranges, so to speak.' He also responded to a question about whether he felt Netflix series Stranger Things was comparable to one of his novels. 'I don't see it as a Stephen King story as much as some other people do,' he said. 'I think the Duffer Brothers give me more credit than I deserve. Like a lot of talented people, they grew up with my material. When they were young and malleable, they read a lot of Stephen King and said: 'We wanna do something like that.' But they're very talented guys and the story they have developed has a lot more to it than Stephen King. It's got a lot of Duffer Brothers in it. It's good. I've seen all the episodes. I like it a lot.' Best of Rolling Stone Every Super Bowl Halftime Show, Ranked From Worst to Best The United States of Weed Gaming Levels Up Solve the daily Crossword

The actor Manny Jacinto says the best marriage advice he's ever gotten is to go to couples therapy when things are good

"Freakier Friday" actor Manny Jacinto knows that the honeymoon phase doesn't last forever, but he doesn't wait for cracks to show before working on his marriage. In an interview with Cosmopolitan published on Tuesday, Jacinto said a good piece of relationship advice he once received was to "go to couples therapy before you need it." "It goes for therapy in general. You don't want to be going to couples therapy when you're in a really bad spot because sometimes it might be too late," Jacinto told Cosmopolitan. Having a neutral third party can help with communication and deepen understanding between partners, he said. Moreover, maintaining a marriage requires constant effort. "It takes work, time, and communication, but it's worth it. If it was easy, everybody would stay married. But it's not easy," Jacinto said. Jacinto, also known for his roles in "Top Gun: Maverick" and "Star Wars: The Acolyte," married fellow actor Dianne Doan in 2021. When navigating relationships, he said he finds it helpful to ask himself whether he is reacting to his feelings or to what his partner is actually saying. "So it can be as simple as, 'Am I hungry and is this why I'm acting like this? Or did I not get enough sleep? Am I actually responding to what they're saying properly and giving it the full attention?'" Jacinto said. "Because I noticed that if I don't get a good amount of sleep or if I'm hungry, if I'm having a bad day, that gets passed on to our relationship." A representative for Jacinto did not immediately respond to a request for comment sent by Business Insider outside regular hours. Other Hollywood celebrities have also shared why couples therapy is essential to their relationships. In August 2024, Rob Lowe said he and his wife of over 30 years, Sheryl Berkoff, have gone for counseling even when they "didn't need it." "It's like taking your car in and making sure the engine's running great," Lowe said. In March, Meghan Trainor told Business Insider that she and her husband, Daryl Sabara, started going to marriage counselling once a month. "We heard our friends were in couples therapy, which made us wonder if we should do that, too. We said to ourselves, 'Let's try it and see how we can get even closer,'" Trainor said.

Paramount Regime's First Deal: Dana Goldberg & Josh Greenstein Land Hot James Mangold & Timothée Chalamet Chernin Package ‘High Side'

EXCLUSIVE: It only took five hours into a new studio regime for incoming Paramount Pictures Co-Chairs Dana Goldberg and Josh Greenstein to put some bounce into the Melrose lot. Deadline can reveal they have closed on the town's hottest package, and their first bright shiny new film package will be High Side, re-teaming A Complete Unknown's James Mangold and Timothée Chalamet. Peter Chernin and David Ready are attached to produce on behalf of Chernin Entertainment alongside Mangold. It's based on an original, unpublished story by Jaime Oliveira, who is also adapting the screenplay. It's Heat meets Hell or High Water, mixed in with one of those Bruce Springsteen songs about tragic brother relationship. Chalamet will play a former MotoGP racer, haunted by a career-ending crash and a family legacy of abandonment. He's running a garage and tending to his drug addict father. When dad dies, he's drawn back into the world of high-speed risks and extreme danger, when his estranged brother, already being pursued by the FBI, recruits him for a series of bank robberies on superbikes. 'We're thrilled to be in business with visionary artists like James and Timothée, and exceptional collaborators like Peter and David at Chernin. What Jaime has created reflects the kind of bold, original storytelling we're committed to championing at Paramount – and we couldn't be more excited to hit the ground running with High Side,' said Dana Goldberg and Josh Greenstein, Co-Chairs of Paramount Pictures. 'David, Dana, and Josh display a real commitment to original, story-driven filmmaking on the big screen and this passion made it easy for Timothée, Peter, and me to land on this project. Timothée is a trusted collaborator, a generational artist, and a person I adore. I can't wait to roll up my sleeves and work together again,' said James Mangold. The project reunites Chernin Entertainment with Mangold after the collaborations on Ford vs Ferrari and The Greatest Showman. Chernin is repped by Brittenham LLP, and Next Wave; Mangold is repped by by WME, Entertainment 360 and Sloane, Offer, Weber & Dern; Chalamet by Brian Swardstrom, UTA, Gang Tyre Ramer Brown & Passman Inc and Relevant; Oliveira by Sugar23 and Yorn, Levine, Barnes.
