Miyu Yamashita holds off Charley Hull to win first major at Women's Open
Yamashita, who began the day leading by one from Kim A-lim, carded a steady final-round 70 in blustery conditions to land her first major title with an 11-under-par total of 277 at Royal Porthcawl.
Hull, three strokes behind on six under overnight, emerged as the closest challenger as she picked up five birdies in a stretch of 10 holes either side of the turn.
That twice took the Englishwoman within one shot of the lead but Yamashita, who put herself in a position of strength with three birdies on the front nine, was always able to keep herself in front.
A key period came as Yamashita overcame a nervy missed birdie putt to save par on the 14th by holing from an awkward distance.
At around the same time Hull, playing two groups ahead, dropped a shot at the par-four 16th after visiting a bunker and the rough before underhitting a chip.
It might have been worse but for holing a lengthy putt to escape with a bogey, but another shot was given away on the following hole.
That saw Yamashita's lead increase to three and allowed her to finish in relative comfort, with a bogey on the 17th the only blemish on her card.
Hull ended joint-second on nine under - her fourth runner-up finish in a major - alongside Minami Katsu of Japan, who birdied the last to shoot 69.
Kim's challenge faded with a round that featured six bogeys but the 2020 US Women's Open winner managed to claw her way back into a share of fourth place on seven under with a birdie on the last. Another Japanese player, Rio Takeda, was alongside her after a 71.
Lottie Woad, winner of the Scottish Open last week on her professional debut, overcame bogeys on her first two holes to shoot 71 and finish in a tie for eighth place on four under.
Another Englishwoman, Mimi Rhodes, had a moment to savour with a remarkable hole-in-one on the par-three fifth, thanks to a fortunate ricochet off playing partner Stephanie Kyriacou's ball.
Australian Kyriacou, who made a hole-in-one herself in the second round, played first and went close to another ace with a shot that came to rest inches from the cup.
Rhodes then played a very similar shot and, luckily for her, Kyriacou's ball was handily placed for it to deflect in off.
That was the undoubted highlight of a 74 that saw Rhodes finish alongside Georgia Hall, who shot 75, on one under.

'A few will leave'
Norwich City boss Liam Manning is expecting players to leave the club before the transfer window closes at the start of next month. The Canaries have added 10 players to their first-team squad over the summer while selling last season's top scorer, Borja Sainz, to Porto. As they prepare for Saturday's opening Championship match of the season against Millwall (15:00 BST), Manning admits players will have to leave the club. "It's not always in our control but naturally we're a bit heavy," the head coach told BBC Radio Norfolk. "We've been able to do some real productive work with the help of the owners to bring in what we have - the consequence is we've got a few too many and I'm sure in the coming weeks there'll be a few who will leave." Norwich finished their pre-season programme with a 2-0 win over Dutch side NAC Breda on Saturday with the notable absences of experienced duo Shane Duffy and Anis Ben Slimane. Defender Duffy missed only one league game last season while midfielder Slimane made 25 starts in the Championship. "Everybody wants to play football and if that's not happening or not likely here, people want to pursue alternative options," Manning added. "Until anything definite happens we'll keep working with them, keep pushing them - their attitude has been top in training and we'll see how that plays out." Tottenham 2-2 Wycombe: Pape Matar Sarr impresses in advanced role as Spurs held in pre-season friendly
Tottenham came from behind to earn a 2-2 draw with Wycombe Wanderers in a behind-closed-doors friendly at Hotspur Way. A late addition to Spurs' pre-season schedule, the fixture was only announced on Wednesday with Thomas Frank explaining it was designed to give players as many minutes as possible heading into the new season. Richarlison, Wilson Odobert and Brandon Austin were certainly among the beneficiaries as they were handed their first minutes of pre-season. However, Tottenham suffered a setback before kick-off when Rodrigo Bentancur was pulled from the matchday squad due to illness. The hosts started the stronger of the two sides and it was no surprise when Pape Matar Sarr broke the deadlock inside 15 minutes. The Senegal international - operating as the most advanced midfielder - pounced to score the rebound after Mikki van Sas had parried Odobert's powerful effort. Spurs had further chances to increase their lead as captain Heung-min Son, Pedro Porro and Richarlison all went close. Wycombe, who had barely offered a threat going forward in the opening half hour, found themselves level against the run of play when Armando Junior Quitirna's effort took a wicked deflection which deceived Brandon Austin. It was a moment to forget for the Spurs goalkeeper as while taking the deflection into account, he allowed the ball to squirm through his legs and into the back of the net. That said, there was nothing Austin could do about Quitirna's second of the day. Daniel Udoh did well to hold the ball up for the visitors and he squared for Quitirna who produced a thumping finish to put the League One side ahead early in the second half. Cristian Romero could count himself lucky to avoid a red card after catching a Wycombe player in the face with his elbow before Porro saw a deflected effort hit the crossbar as Spurs chased an equaliser. Tynan Thompson was one of several Tottenham youngsters to feature in the second half and he certainly caught the eye. First claiming an assist for Sarr to ram home the equaliser before dragging an effort just wide in the closing stages. As planned Spurs' remaining first-team players were withdrawn in the 75th minute and the youngsters saw out a draw in the club's first pre-season fixture of the day.
