Weapons trailer: Julia Garner, Josh Brolin and Alden Ehrenreich star in Zach Cregger's horror film
The first full-length trailer for Weapons, a new horror film from Barbarian director Zach Cregger, has been released, unveiling a chilling tale about a group of missing schoolchildren.
The film follows the mysterious disappearance of an entire class of students from a small Florida town, with the children vanishing in the middle of the night, only to leave behind eerie questions. In the trailer, a young girl narrates the unsettling events: 'Every other class had all their kids, but Mrs. Gandy's room was totally empty. And do you know why? Because the night before, at 2:17 in the morning, every kid woke up, got out of bed, walked downstairs and into the dark. And they never came back.'
Julia Garner stars as Mrs. Gandy, the teacher who becomes the prime suspect when her class is found missing. Josh Brolin plays Matthew, the father of one of the missing students, while Alden Ehrenreich portrays a local police officer, and Benedict Wong plays an administrator at the elementary school where the disappearances took place. Additional cast members include Austin Abrams, Cary Christopher, and others.
Cregger, who gained attention for his hit film Barbarian in 2022, wrote and directed Weapons, which is produced by Cregger's producing team, including Roy Lee and Miri Yoon of Vertigo, and J.D. Lifshitz and Raphael Margules of BoulderLight Pictures. The film is set for theatrical release on August 8, 2025, by Warner Bros.
In a recent interview, Cregger reflected on the similarities between horror and comedy, explaining that the two genres share timing and tone dynamics. He also noted that filmmaker Jordan Peele offered him valuable advice on navigating the challenges of filmmaking.

Final Destination: Bloodlines breaks franchise record with $43M opening weekend
Warner Bros. continues its dominance at the box office with Final Destination: Bloodlines opening at an impressive $43 million across 3,523 theaters, marking the best debut in franchise history. The film earned $20 million on Friday alone, including $5.5 million from Thursday previews, surpassing expectations and edging out previous entries in the Final Destination series. Directed by Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein, and written by Guy Busick and Lori Evans Taylor, Bloodlines boasts strong fan support with a 90% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. The film becomes the fourth No. 1 opener this year for Warner Bros, following Mickey 17, Minecraft, and Sinners. Speaking of Sinners, the vampire thriller remains resilient, earning $15 million in its fifth weekend, down just 32%. Its total domestic haul is projected to reach $240.3 million by Sunday, outperforming historical R-rated horror benchmarks like The Blair Witch Project. In second place is Disney/Marvel's Thunderbolts* with $16 million in its third weekend, bringing its cumulative total to $154.8 million. Meanwhile, Hurry Up Tomorrow, starring The Weeknd and Jenna Ortega, opens with a modest $3.3M–$4.7M after a weak $2.5M Friday and lukewarm audience response. Despite the soft opening, it coincides with The Weeknd's massive $400M tour and a new album drop. Rounding out the top five is A Minecraft Movie with a steady $5.6 million in its seventh weekend, pushing its total to $416.3 million. As horror continues to thrive, Warner Bros solidifies its box office dominance, with Bloodlines and Sinners leading a strong May lineup.

Michael B. Jordan's 'Sinners' surpasses $200M at domestic box office in fourth week
Sinners, directed by Ryan Coogler and starring Michael B. Jordan in dual roles, has crossed the $200 million domestic box office mark in its fourth weekend of release. The milestone was confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter, with the film ending Friday at $199.8 million and surpassing the threshold over the weekend. Produced by Warner Bros., Sinners has become the second-highest-grossing domestic film of the year so far, trailing only A Minecraft Movie. With a production budget estimated at $90 million, the film has quickly established itself as a standout in the 2025 cinematic lineup. Starring Hailee Steinfeld and Jack O'Connell alongside Jordan, the film's popularity has led to the expansion of IMAX screenings. From 15 to 21 May, Sinners will return to selected 70mm IMAX theatres across major cities, including Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, and Toronto. Jeff Goldstein, Warner Bros. Pictures' president of global distribution, stated, 'If ever a film needed to be experienced in this incredible, larger-than-life format, it's Sinners.' Set in Mississippi in 1932, Sinners follows twin World War I veterans, Smoke and Stack—both portrayed by Jordan—who are targeted by vampires disguised as civilians. The story weaves horror, romance, and action with social commentary on racial tensions of the era. Critically acclaimed for its genre-defying narrative, Sinners holds a 97% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes, a 96% audience rating, and an 8.1 rating on IMDb. It has also climbed to No. 20 on the list of the highest-grossing horror films of all time, according to The Numbers. Director Coogler remarked on his approach, saying he aimed to challenge genre conventions. 'I wanted to make a film that was kind of raging against the concept of genre,' he said.
