Marcos pushing for accountability, transparency in gov't — Palace
At a press briefing, Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Atty. Claire Castro was asked about the call of Senate President Francis Escudero, compelling public officials to waive their bank secrecy rights.
She was asked if the President would support Escudero's call.
(The President is in favor and we should enforce accountability and transparency in the government. So, we will not have a negative response from the President.)
Escudero has renewed his call for transparency and accountability in government as he proposed a measure, mandating all public officials and employees to waive their rights under Republic Act No. 1405, or the Law on the Secrecy of Bank Deposits, and Republic Act No. 6426, or the Foreign Currency Deposit Act.
The bill states that all government personnel—except those serving in an honorary capacity—will be required to submit a written waiver authorizing the Office of the Ombudsman to examine all their deposits and investments, including foreign currency accounts, in a fresh bid to reinforce anti-corruption efforts and bolster public trust in government institutions.
'This bill has languished for too long,' Escudero said in a separate statement. 'I'm hopeful that this time, we can turn the rhetoric of transparency into actionable policy.' — Anna Felicia Bajo/RSJ, GMA Integrated News

Marcos says P83-billion drug bust haul so far close to entire Duterte term's total
President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos, Jr. on Monday said that the P83 billion worth of illegal drugs seized during his term so far is almost the same amount of illegal drugs seized during the presidency of Rodrigo Duterte. President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos, Jr. on Monday said that the P83 billion worth of illegal drugs seized during his term so far is almost the same amount of illegal drugs seized during the presidency of Rodrigo Duterte. Kamakailan lamang, may mga malalaking kargamento na nagkakahalaga ng bilyon-bilyon ang nasabat natin sa Zambales, Pangasinan, Cagayan, Tondo, Muntinlupa, Ilocos Sur, Ilocos Norte, Cebu, Batangas, Rizal, at Cavite,' Marcos said during his fourth State of the Nation Address. (In the raids on warehouses and laboratories, almost P83 billion worth of illegal drugs have been confiscated. Just recently we seized large shipments worth just three years, we have nearly matched the drug bust haul of the past administration.) Marcos added that the government's anti-drug operations have resulted in the arrest of 53,000 suspects, including some 9,000 high-value targets. These include 677 government officials, of whom 100 are elected officials while 50 others are police officers. Still, the President said that the battle against illegal drugs and other crimes, such as the case of missing sabungeros, is far from over. (Our anti-drug operations continue and the police are always on standby, protecting our communities.) (The government is all hands on deck in addressing the case of the missing sabungeros. We will go after the masterminds, civilians or officials alike. Whether they are rich or influential, they will not prevail over rule of law.) — BM, GMA Integrated News

Marcos: PH now more peaceful with guerilla fronts eliminated
President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. said on Monday that the Philippines is now more peaceful with the elimination of guerrilla fronts. Marcos said this during his fourth State of the Nation Address (SONA), noting that the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Philippine National Police (PNP), and former rebels are working together to maintain peace and order in the country. 'Sa wakas, wala na ring nalalabing grupong gerilya sa bansa, at titiyakin ng pamahalaan na wala nang mabubuo muli,' the President said. (Finally, there are no guerrilla groups left in the country, and the government will ensure that none will be formed again.) (The AFP, PNP, and former rebels now work together in maintaining peace and order in BARMM. Therefore, our society is more peaceful now, giving more importance to human rights, regardless of age, gender, condition, or group.) Marcos said that the government is helping thousands of former rebels and their families to start a new life. Their communities are also being developed, and they are being provided livelihood through the help of the private sector, he added. Aside from employment programs, the President said that over 13 million Filipinos saved from armed conflict are also currently benefiting from the health stations, classrooms, water systems, and streetlights built by the government. —VBL, GMA Integrated News

SONA 2025: Marcos maintains ‘PH a friend to all, enemy to none' foreign policy
President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. during his State of the Nation Address on Monday maintained his administration's foreign policy: 'The Philippines is a friend to all. The Philippines is an enemy to none.' During his fourth SONA at the Batasang Pambansa, Marcos said this would be the main focus as the Philippines will host the ASEAN Summit and Related Summits next year. The President stressed this as the Philippines continue to face threats in its territories. He said defending the Philippines' rights would be heightened, however, the Philippine government would remain ''patient'' in protecting the country's rights. Tensions continue as Beijing claims almost all of the South China Sea, a conduit for more than $3 trillion of annual shipborne commerce, including parts claimed by the Philippines, Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Brunei. Parts of the South China Sea that fall within Philippine territory have been renamed by the government as the West Philippine Sea to reinforce the country's claim on the resource-rich territory. The West Philippine Sea refers to the maritime areas on the western side of the Philippine archipelago including Luzon Sea and the waters around, within and adjacent to the Kalayaan Island Group and Bajo de Masinloc. In 2016, the Permanent Court of Arbitration in the Hague ruled in favor of the Philippines over China's claims in the South China Sea, saying that it had "no legal basis." However, China has refused to recognize the ruling. Marcos has been consistent that the Philippines would never give up a single inch of its territory to aggressors. Overseas Filipino Workers In his SONA, Marcos also highlighted the role of Overseas Filipino Workers, saying that the Philippines is highly regarded by many countries because of observing international laws, as well as the roles of OFWs. He said through OFWs, the skills of Filipinos are being showcased abroad. — RF, GMA Integrated News
