Jaishankar to tour Singapore, China from today; Chinese FM likely to visit India in July
In Singapore, he will 'meet his counterpart and the leadership of Singapore as part of the regular exchanges between our two countries,' the MEA said.
Thereafter, he will 'visit the People's Republic of China to participate in the SCO Council of Foreign Ministers' Meeting (CFM) being held in Tianjin. Jaishankar will also hold bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the Foreign Ministers' Meeting, it said.
The Meeting of the Council of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of theShanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) will be held in Tianjin on July 15, a statement by a spokesperson of the Chinese Foreign Ministry said Saturday.
At the invitation of the member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China and Foreign Minister Wang Yi, foreign ministers of other SCO member states and heads of the bloc's permanent bodies will attend the meeting, the statement said.
The ministers will exchange views on SCO cooperation in various fields and major international and regional issues, it said.
Wang may also visit India this month to hold a fresh round of talks with NSA Ajit Doval under the framework of Special Representatives (SR) dialogue on the boundary dispute, it is learnt.
Both Wang and Doval are the designated SRs of the boundary mechanism. Both countries held 23 rounds of talks under the SRs mechanism to resolve the dispute but without success.
This will be Jaishankar's first visit to China since the military standoff along the LAC in eastern Ladakh in May 2020.
The meeting of the Foreign Ministers will also set the stage for the SCO Leaders' Summit in Tianjin, expected to be held early September.
Jaishankar's visit follows visits by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and NSA Doval, who had travelled to China in June last week for SCO meetings. Singh took part in the SCO Defence Ministers' conference in Qingdao.
During his talks with Chinese Defence Minister Gen Dong Jun on June 26, Singh proposed that India and China should solve the 'complex issues' under a structured roadmap comprising steps to de-escalate tensions along the frontiers and rejuvenate the existing mechanism to demarcate the borders.
Singh and Dong held bilateral talks on the sidelines of a conclave of the SCO with a focus on maintaining peace and tranquillity along the LAC.
Singh had also emphasised the need to create 'good neighbourly conditions' to achieve the best mutual benefits and called for 'taking action on the ground' to bridge the 'trust deficit' resulting from the 2020 eastern Ladakh border standoff, according to an Indian readout on the meeting on June 27.
Reacting to Singh's statement, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning had said that the boundary question is 'complicated, and it takes time to settle it'.

Intel last year secured nearly $8 billion in subsidies, the largest outlay under the act, to build new factories in Ohio and other states as former CEO Pat Gelsinger bet on them to restore the company's manufacturing edge. EAM Jaishankar and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi talk trade, push for stability
New Delhi: External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Monday held talks with visiting Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on trade restrictions and other key issues, saying the two nations must move forward after "a difficult period in our relationship". The two ministers also exchanged views on global developments, including the Ukraine conflict and US tariffs. "Having seen a difficult period in our relationship, our two nations now seek to move ahead. This calls for a candid and constructive approach from both sides. In doing so, we must be guided by the three mutuals - respect, sensitivity and interest. Differences must not turn into disputes, nor competition into conflict," Jaishankar said in his opening remarks. Wang Yi is on a two-day visit to India ahead of PM Narendra Modi's China trip for the SCO Summit, where he may also meet President Xi Jinping. He will hold the next round of Special Representative-level talks with NSA Ajit Doval on Tuesday, and also meet Modi. Talks covered economic and trade issues, pilgrimages, people-to-people contacts, river data sharing, border trade, connectivity and bilateral exchanges. Jaishankar also raised concerns - notably Beijing's trade restrictions - which he had flagged during his China visit in July. "I'm In Space, You Can't Reach Me": Minister Jokes As Opposition Interrupts Speech
New Delhi: Lok Sabha held a special discussion on India's first astronaut aboard the International Space Station (ISS) and the critical role of the country's space programme in achieving the vision of "Viksit Bharat (Developed India)" by 2047. The discussion was initiated by Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science & Technology and Minister of State for Prime Minister's Office Dr Jitendra Singh, who also oversees the Space Department. His remarks, however, were repeatedly interrupted by Opposition members, who raised slogans and displayed placards on the Special Intensive Revision in Bihar. In a lighter vein, Dr Singh responded to the protests with a quip: " Main iss samay Antriksh mein khada hoon, aap mujh tak nahin pahunch sakte" (I am right now standing in Space, you can't reach me). His remark came as Opposition MPs tried to block his view on the House television screen by raising their banners higher. But missed the target as he had strategically shifted to a back bench seat at a higher elevation before beginning his speech. Appealing to the Opposition to rise above partisan differences, Dr Singh said: "Though you are too angry to participate in the discussion initiated by me, I still bow my head and plead... even if you are angry with the government, come forward and participate in this important discussion on space so the message going out to the nation is correct." Quoting poet Ahmed Faraz, he recited: " Kis kis ko sunaye ge judai ka sabab hum, Tu mujhse khafa hai to zamane ke liye aa." He then paraphrased it for the House: " Kis kis ko sunaye ge iss shor-o-gul ka sabab hum; Tu mujhse khafa hai to Subhanshu ke liye aa." Despite the interruptions, the minister underlined that India's space programme has become a vital pillar in the journey towards self-reliance and national development, with milestones like Chandrayaan-3 and the astronaut mission reinforcing the country's position as a global space power.
