VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. - A Florida man was denied bond after allegedly shooting someone outside a DeLand bar over a $5 drink over the weekend during his court appearance on Monday morning.

During the hearing, 55-year-old Calvin Gilbert of DeLand was formally charged with attempted first-degree murder and using a firearm while under the influence.
The judge also noted that another judge had reviewed the affidavit, found probable cause and determined it was appropriate to hold Gilbert without bond in the Volusia County jail.
The judge at the court hearing stated he didn't know the specifics as to what their other judge saw in the affidavit, and gave Gilbert's attorney the option to file a bond motion – a formal request made to the court asking for the release of a defendant from custody, usually on bail or bond, before their trial.
The backstory
According to the DeLand Police Department, the incident began early Saturday morning at McCabe's Bar, where Gilbert had been drinking with the victim, a man he had just met.
Witnesses said Gilbert bought the victim a beer and later demanded repayment as the bar was closing.
Things escalated in the parking lot when Gilbert reportedly pulled out a handgun and fired a shot from just a few feet away.
The victim ducked and was not hit, but the bullet hit a cooler and went through the wall of a nearby building.

Suspect arrested in Brevard County after trying to bomb state radio tower, deputies say

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. - A suspect has been taken into custody in Brevard County after deputies say he attempted to bomb a state radio tower. What we know Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey said deputies responded to a call about a suspicious vehicle on Friday in the area of Deering Parkway Road. The vehicle was trying to pull away when deputies arrived at the scene. A number of units, including the bomb unit, were seen on Deering Parkway Road between Interstate 95 and U.S. 1. Ivey said the vehicle's driver told a story that "did not match what was going on," causing investigators to search the vehicle and discover an explosive device that the sheriff said was a possible pipe bomb. Ivey said the driver of the vehicle appeared to be angry over employment issues and planned to target one of the state radio towers. "The individual has made some statements about getting fired and things of that nature," Ivey said. Ivey said the incident was isolated and not an act of terrorism. He said the suspect is now in custody. What we don't know It is currently unclear what employment issues led up to the suspect attempting to target the radio tower with the explosive device. Hillsborough County deputies make arrests in shooting that injured teen
The Brief Deputies with the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office have made arrests in connection with a shooting that injured a teenager on Wednesday. Detectives said they found evidence connected to the shooting inside a bedroom belonging to a 17-year-old and an 18-year-old. A 38-year-old man was also arrested for driving with a suspended license when deputies said they found him driving the vehicle linked to the suspected shooter. PROGRESS VILLAGE, Fla. - Two teenage felons have been arrested in connection with a shooting that injured a teenager on Wednesday. The backstory According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, deputies went to the area of South 81st Street and Fir Drive shortly before 12:40 p.m. after receiving multiple 911 calls regarding a shooting. Upon arrival, deputies found a teenager suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. READ: Driver on Dale Mabry Highway claimed to have bomb in car, used drugs in front of officers: TPD Detectives said they identified the suspected shooter's vehicle and found it in Riverview. When they pulled the vehicle over, deputies said the driver, Antonio House, 38, was taken into custody for driving on a suspended license. Dig deeper A search warrant was executed where House was staying and that's where deputies said they recovered multiple guns. According to HCSO, a Glock .40 caliber handgun recovered from inside the home was ballistically matched to the casings recovered at the scene of the shooting. The HCSO Firearms Laboratory conducted the analysis and confirmed the connection between the gun and the crime scene. Both were taken into custody. The 17-year-old has been charged with felon in possession of a firearm, felon in possession of ammunition and resisting an officer without violence. House was charged with attempted second-degree murder, aggravated battery great bodily harm or deadly weapon firearm, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, felon in possession of a firearm, felon in possession of ammunition and resisting an officer without violence.
