Yahoo28-04-2025

MIAMI, Okla. — NEO has announced a new Department Chair of Social Sciences & Department Chair of Communication and Fine Arts.
Officials with NEO say LaShawna Powers, a dedicated NEO faculty member for nearly 15 years, assumed the role this spring. Powers has taught a great number of courses during her time at NEO, including U.S. History I and II, Humanities I and II, World History, and History of the American Indian.
NEO says Powers has not just been beneficial as a teacher but also has served as the academic advisor for NEO's Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society since 2013, in addition to having shown a conducive ability to lead during her term as a member of the NEO Faculty Senate, during which she served as President from 2022-2023.
'LaShawna is a proven leader and respected professional on NEO's campus,' said Dr. Dustin Grover, Vice President for Academic Affairs. 'Her exceptional performance in the classroom, deep engagement with students, and the strong confidence her peers have in her all speak to her readiness to succeed as an administrator at NEO.'

This Easy Dinner Merges Histories (and Fish and Couscous)

Peter Frankopan's 'The Silk Roads' has been on my night stand for some months now. It's a hefty presence, nudging me whenever I reach past it for my phone and lighter sorts of entertainment. It's a book with such intellectual weight that it invites both eagerness and a sort of low-grade anxiety. There is something about reordering your entire view of world history at 9 p.m. that feels … ambitious. Recipe: Spiced Couscous With Fragrant Steamed Fish And yet I keep picking it up. Frankopan tilts world history eastward, and the ancient routes of Central Asia become the center rather than the periphery. He traces how these pathways carried not just luxury goods but ideas, religions and diseases, connecting far-flung kitchens and cultures long before we started talking about 'globalization.' Among all the accounts of silk merchants and military campaigns, I'm drawn to the ones of barley, wheat and millet, traveling in saddlebags across mountains and deserts. It's the kind of book that makes me ask questions that haven't occurred to me before. Who first decided to mix cardamom with rice, or cinnamon (originally from China) with tomatoes (from the Americas)? What possessed them? What were they looking for? Who first tasted the result and declared it good? We have a tendency to draw history in straight lines. We want clear origins, neat progressions, definitive end points. This came from there, traveled here, became this. But life is rarely that tidy, is it? Want all of The Times? Subscribe.

Pittsburgh Steelers' Cameron Heyward Takes Shot at Raiders' Offensive Anchor Jackson Powers-Johnson

Pittsburgh Steelers' Cameron Heyward Takes Shot at Raiders' Offensive Anchor Jackson Powers-Johnson originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Pittsburgh Steelers captain and defensive standout Cameron Heyward is stuck in a childish war of words of sorts. Advertisement The Steelers star is entering his 15th season in 2025, while Las Vegas Raiders offensive lineman Jackson Powers-Johnson will embark on just his second. During an appearance on his teammate Maxx Crosby's "The Rush" podcast, Powers-Johnson described his "Welcome to the NFL" moment in his rookie season. He said it stems from a Week 6 matchup between Pittsburgh and Las Vegas. "I'd say playing against Cam Heyward and giving up my first sack ... ever ... in my entire life," Powers-Johnson said. "I would have to say that. He didn't beat me, I beat myself. I beat myself, I overset. And he got me, and said some choice words after, and I really hope he comes back for another year. That's all I'm gonna say." Heyward took to his own podcast, "Not Just Football," to provide the proverbial slap back to reality for Powers-Johnson. Advertisement "Hey man, I was close a lot of times. I just, you know, I delivered the baby at that moment," Heyward said. "I don't remember what I said. You know, I tend to black out in those moments, but that wasn't the only time he got beat. I'm gonna be honest. "I'm gonna be honest too, this is the other thing," Heyward said. "He's saying this, and we don't even have him scheduled this year. That's kind of funny. So now you're talking stuff when you had all this time to even bring this up." It was one of just two sacks that the former Oregon Ducks offensive lineman gave up last season during his rookie campaign. And the fact that he wants another shot at Heyward is admirable, but it won't happen in 2025 unless one of them is traded to another team. The Steelers and Raiders aren't on each other's schedule next season. So we may have to wait a while before we see how this thing ends. Cam Heyward Has Strong Response to Raiders OL Jackson Powers-Johnson

Cam Heyward Has Strong Response to Raiders OL Jackson Powers-Johnson originally appeared on Athlon Sports. There could be an unlikely rivalry brewing in the AFC. The Las Vegas Raiders and Pittsburgh Steelers have been rivals for decades, but there's apparently some bad blood between players from each team. Advertisement Recently, second-year offensive lineman Jackson Powers-Johnson revealed that he's eyeing his next matchup with Pro Bowl defensive lineman Cameron Heyward. "I'd say playing against Cam Heyward and giving up my first sack-ever, in my entire life," Powers-Johnson said on a recent episode of "The Rush." "I would have to say that. He didn't beat me, I beat myself. I beat myself, I overset. And he got me, and said some choice words after, and I really hope he comes back for another year. That's all I'm gonna say." Cam Heyward sacking Aidan O' R. Sylvanie-Imagn Images Heyward has been in the NFL for 14 years, and he's faced hundreds of offensive linemen. He had a chance to respond to Powers-Johnson and suggested that he beat him more than once. Advertisement "Hey man, I was close a lot of times. I just, you know, I delivered the baby at that moment," Heyward said on the "Not Just Football" podcast. "I don't remember what I said. You know, I tend to black out in those moments, but that wasn't the only time he got beat. I'm gonna be honest." Heyward is an interesting player for Powers-Johnson to start beef with. He's very likely going to be a Hall of Famer one day and is still one of the best defensive linemen in the NFL. The 2025 season will be the first time since 2020 that the Raiders and Steelers don't play in the regular season, so it could be a while before Heyward and Powers-Johnson get another shot at each other.
