Jeff Lynne 'heartbroken' to cancel final ELO show amid health worries
In a statement shared to Instagram Stories on Saturday, July 12, the 77-year-old musician said he's "heartbroken" he won't be able to perform with ELO at BST Hyde Park in London on July 13. The performance will not be rescheduled. It's unclear whether a different final show will be planned for a later date.
ELO had previously canceled a July 10 performance in Manchester. Lynne was unable to play guitar during the band's recent shows in Birmingham, England, after suffering a hand injury, according to Rolling Stone and Ultimate Classic Rock.
USA TODAY has reached out to a representative for Lynne for more information.
"Jeff has been battling a systemic infection and is currently in the care of a team of doctors who have advised him that performing is simply not possible at this time, nor will he be able to reschedule," the announcement read.
"The legacy of the band and his longtime fans are foremost in Jeff's mind today − and while he is so sorry that he cannot perform, he knows that he must focus on his health and rehabilitation at this time," the statement concluded.
Review: Is there a better live sonic feast than Jeff Lynne's ELO? Not a chance.
Lynne founded ELO in 1970 with Roy Wood and Bev Bevan. The group behind songs like "Mr. Blue Sky" kicked off its Over and Out tour, which was described as a farewell tour, in August 2024. The BST Hyde Park gig was expected to be ELO's last-ever show.
"My return to touring began at Hyde Park in 2014," Lynne said last year when the performance was announced, per Billboard. "It seems like the perfect place to do our final show."
Following Lynne's statement, BST Hyde Park posted that the July 13 event "will sadly be cancelled" and ticket holders "will be refunded and contacted directly by their ticket agent with further details."
Speaking to Mojo last year, Lynne said that ELO's final performance "will certainly be an emotional show for me." At the same time, he stressed, "This is not a farewell to music. I am excited to return to the studio full-time, which is what I love!"

Katie Thurston On Cody Menk's Comment On Jeff Arcuri
You remember Katie Thurston — she appeared on Season 17 of The Bachelorette. Katie ended up with contestant Blake Moynes, dating him for six months before their breakup in October 2021. Well, in March, Katie got married to comedian Jeff Arcuri — and while many fans were thrilled for her, it seems one person, her ex-Bachelorette contestant Cody Menk, was not. Cody gave his honest thoughts under an Instagram picture of Katie and Jeff together on their wedding day. According to Parade, he wrote, "Good couple! Both solid 5s," along with a laughing emoji. Katie posted a screenshot of Cody's comment on Instagram Stories and said, "Remember this guy from my season? Me either. But he's still here lurking on my page. Thanks for being a fan." Cody, a sales manager at the time of his appearance on the show, was eliminated just two weeks into the series. His elimination came amid concerns from Katie and another contestant that he was on the series for fame instead of love. And judging from his terrible comment, fans feel affirmed that Katie chose not to move forward with him. Reacting to a Reddit post about Cody's comment, one person shared a meme saying, "Just as I Another person said, "He's lucky to have even breathed in her direction wtf. Absolutely classless." Someone else wondered, "Why would he think this was okay. What an idiot!" as another person suspected Cody was "obviously jealous." It doesn't appear Cody has publicly responded to Katie's post or the subsequent backlash just yet, but according to Parade, he has since removed the comment. We'll see if he does anything else.

Richard Gere Returns to U.S. After Facing Fury From Paul Simon's Daughter Over Demolition of Her $10.75 Million Childhood Home
Hollywood superstar Richard Gere has returned to the U.S. from his home in Spain—just weeks after he was publicly slammed by the daughter of music legend Paul Simon over his decision to sell her historic childhood home, which has since been demolished. Gere, 75, was pictured strolling through John F. Kennedy Airport on Aug. 7 with a suitcase in tow, keeping a low profile in sweatpants, a T-shirt, and a baseball cap. Photos published by the Daily Mail showed the "Pretty Woman" star wheeling his own luggage through the terminal, while also carrying a bright yellow tote bag and a guitar. Gere's return to the U.S. comes nine months after he and his wife, Alejandra, relocated to Spain from their home in Connecticut—a move that the actor revealed they made so that his spouse, who hails from the European country, could be closer to family. Yet their move became mired in controversy in July when Lulu Simon, the daughter of crooner Paul and his wife, Edie Brickell, issued a withering takedown of Gere—who purchased her childhood home from the singer in 2022. In May, exclusively revealed that the developer to whom Gere then sold the home for $10.75 million in November 2024 was razing the property in order to make way for a nine-plot subdivision. This news appears to have enraged Lulu, 30, who blasted the decision in several posts shared to her Instagram Stories last month. "Just in case anyone was wondering if I still hate Richard Gere—I do!" she wrote alongside a picture of herself flashing a peace sign at the camera. "He bought my childhood home," she went on. "Promised he would take care of the land as [a] condition of his purchase. Proceeded to never actually move in and just sold it to a developer as nine separate plots. "Hate! Him!" she concluded the post, which also featured a news story about Gere's real estate deal. Lulu then continued her tirade with a rather sinister warning for Gere, sharing an image of the actor surrounded by photos of her late pets, while writing: "I hope my dead pets buried in that backyard haunt you until you descend into a slow and unrelenting madness." Both posts were deleted around 18 hours after they were first shared, and Lulu has not commented publicly on the messages since. Gere has also remained silent over the controversy, and in the weeks since appears to have been soaking up his quiet life in Madrid with his wife and their children. Meanwhile, the demolition of the six-bedroom mansion in which Lulu spent her childhood is already well underway, after local salvage company Hudson Valley House Parts of Newburgh, NY, was called in to save the most historic parts of the 1938 dwelling back in May. At the time, the company's founder, Reggie Young, told that he felt it was "a real shame" the house was being razed, noting: "Once the stuff is gone, it's never coming back." Still, Young and his team managed to salvage several of the most stunning features in the home, including two steel nautical-motif, midcentury bay windows; a limestone mantel and a marble mantel; Colonial window sashes; a complete cerused oak library with a bowed fireplace and wall paneling with built-ins; exterior stone steps with an iron railing and a portico; and the entire entryway with the arched jamb, door surround, and paneled walls. The company shared images and video of that process online—with several users lamenting the destruction of such an historic estate. "This is like watching a horror movie," one person wrote. "So sad this is being dismantled but grateful you're saving it for a new use." Gere purchased the home from the "Mrs. Robinson" crooner and his wife, Edie Brickell, in the summer of 2022 and had originally planned to turn a large portion of its expansive grounds into a farm, according to details shared during a local planning and zoning commission meeting in 2023. But in April, those plans seemed to have been put on hold when Gere told Vanity Fair Spain that he wanted to relocate his entire family to the European country so that his Spanish-born wife could be closer to her family. "It is a beautiful place, the food is extraordinary and the people exude sensitivity and generosity, as well as a strong will to laugh and enjoy," he told the outlet. "I'm looking forward to going there. "For Alejandra, it will be wonderful to be closer to her family, her lifelong friends and her culture. She was very generous in giving me six years living in my world, so it is only fair that I give her at least another six living in hers. "I love Spain and the ability of the Spanish people to live transmitting joy and happiness." While it's unclear why Gere—who turns 76 on Aug. 31—has returned to the U.S., his wife has previously explained that the couple were always planning to retain a residence in the actor's home country, revealing that they were only ever planning to make Spain their home "for a few years." At the time, she added that they had already signed their kids up for summer camp in the U.S., which may explain Gere's return this month. "For a few years [we'll live in Spain], and then come back. But we're always coming back. We'll come back here in the summer because we have the kids at camp. We just have to balance our lives there and here," she told the Daily Mail. Gere also confirmed during his interview with Vanity Fair Spain that he was holding onto property in the U.S., telling the outlet that they owned a dwelling "in the countryside near New York," although he did not specify where. Over the years, Gere has bought and sold numerous homes in the greater New York area, offloading a 50-acre Westchester estate for $28 million back in May 2022. TV-series runner Ryan Murphy was later revealed as the buyer. Six years earlier, he had listed his Hamptons property, a picture-perfect home in Sag Harbor, NY, which was initially listed for $65 million. Two years later, he wed Silva, and the pair have since welcomed two sons together. Gere also has an older son, Homer, now 24, from his marriage to second wife Carey Lowell, while Silva shares a son, Albert, 11, with her ex-spouse, Govind Friedland. Since their big move, Gere has gushed about how much he "loves" their new life—while also slamming the way in which the U.S. has changed under the leadership of President Donald Trump, leading many to suggest that he might never return. In an interview with Spanish publication El Pais, he further elaborated on those views while discussing his views on kindness. "If each of us were kind to each other, the world would be different and better. Not all of us respond to wisdom, but we all respond to kindness," Gere told the publication. "Even in the case of Trump, I'm sure there is something kind about him. People say he's charming in private. "Yet the world he's created around himself is violent, crude, and ignorant. Many of the things he's doing we've never seen before." When asked whether he believes that Trump's second term in office could "irreversibly change the values of U.S. society," the actor admitted that he "worries" about it—claiming that the president is "cut off from" society's natural sense of empathy. Brooke Hogan Addresses 'Beef' with Dad Hulk Hogan's Widow Sky Daily
The former reality star reacted to speculation that she's feuding with her late father's widow after Sky slammed the "heartbreakingly misleading media stories created by faceless AI accounts or by people not close enough to truly know what was happening." Brooke Hogan is speaking out on claims that she is feuding with her late father Hulk Hogan's widow, Sky Daily. On Thursday, the 37-year-old former reality star took to her Instagram Stories to shut down speculation that she has "beef" with Sky, reacting to a post Sky shared a day prior. The WWE legend's widow opened up about Hogan's funeral in an Instagram post, below, sharing the tribute video that played at the "beautiful" service, while also slamming the "heartbreakingly misleading media stories created by faceless AI accounts or by people not close enough to truly know what was happening." In response, Brooke shared a statement on her Instagram Stories, addressing claims by some fans that Sky threw shade at her with her post. "Everyone, stop trying to say Sky 'shaded me.' I don't feel like she did at all. I thought her post was respectful and classy and I have said in EVERY interview that she was always nice to me," she wrote. "Me and her don't have beef as far as I know." Brooke -- who didn't attend the funeral -- also reacted to Sky revealing in her Instagram post that Hogan, who died of a heart attack at the age of 71 last month, has not been cremated yet, writing "our family is making sure every question about his medical care is answered first." In her post, Brooke said she was previously informed that her late father was "cremated without an autopsy which of course freaked me out," before learning that "he has not been cremated yet and [Sky's] doing the research." Hogan died on July 24. While the medical examiner's report showed that the wrestler's cause of death was a heart attack, the records also listed that Hogan had been diagnosed with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL), according to Page Six. Brooke -- who recently claimed that the news of her father's leukemia diagnosis came as a total shock to her -- went on to write in her post that while she doesn't believe any "foul play" is "suspected" in Hogan's passing, her late father "had a very complicated medical history." "Hearing what was coming out was shocking to me, given that I've seen MULTIPLE near-perfect blood panels of my father's and then all of a sudden everything's different? Anyone would want answers. And she's doing just that," she wrote of Sky. The Hogan Knows Best alum concluded her post by telling her followers, "Stop twisting stuff, people." Brooke also addressed her father's death earlier on Thursday in a post shared to her Instagram Stories, revealing her offer to "pay" for Hogan's autopsy. "I'm glad to see that my dad has not been cremated and that Sky is waiting because of family questions," she said. "With all of the speculation and uncertainty of my dad's death, I want to personally offer to pay for an autopsy if that's what it takes to get it done. My dad's dignity and legacy deserves it." Brooke -- who is the daughter of Hogan and his first wife Linda Hogan -- was estranged from her family in recent years, and did not attend his funeral. She married former professional ice hockey player Steven Olesky in June 2022, and the two welcomed twins earlier this year. Although Hogan did not attend Brooke's wedding, the latter emotionally revealed that her late father did walk her down the aisle one time -- even if it was just pretend. On Thursday, Brooke shared a video on Instagram that featured a throwback clip of a "fake" wedding between her and wrestler Bully Ray -- aka Bubba Ray Dudley -- in 2013, which was a TNA storyline. In the clip, Hogan walked Brooke -- who was wearing a wedding dress -- down the aisle. "Something hit me today... it may have been for a storyline... it may have been fake," she wrote in the post's caption. "But I remember this moment like it was yesterday.... I actually teared up when I saw my daddy emerge in suit to walk me down the aisle - into a wrestling wring of all things." "I actually got nervous and emotional, as if it were real... then he whispered to me 'chill out, it's a work,'" she continued. "But for some reason, I still felt proud. Even Dixie Carter said something about it struck an emotional chord." "So although I didn't get to achieve this experience in real life unfortunately, I can try to fuse two happy memories into one - and make a happy ending of my own to hold on to...," Brooke added. "I can officially say. 'My dad did walk me down the aisle one time...' 😔" Brooke's latest Instagram posts come after she appeared on the Bubba The Love Sponge podcast on Tuesday. She spoke to the radio personality about her dad's passing, their complicated relationship, and Hogan's marriage to Sky. Brooke said that she dug into Sky's past after her dad shared some troubling tidbits about their relationship, and found out she was a Scientologist. "Somebody brought it to our attention that she was a Scientologist," Brooke shared. "She said she was a Scientologist but she said she left. But I started digging a little bit deeper -- trust me, I don't really know much about Scientology but I'm just telling you what my digging did." She continued, "She's still in good standings. And when I brought that up to my dad, he goes, 'She just doesn't want to leave because she wants her kids to be able to see the grandparents and this and that.' Her grandparents are like, highest level, OT8, I believe -- Or her parents." "I kind of told my dad, I said listen, 'This is what I have.' I had a friend that was ex-FBI look into the situation, and I was kind of really going to bat for my dad, and saying, 'Hey, you need to be careful. If you want to date her, cool. Just don't get married. You don't have to," she continued. "And I was concerned about everything else too." After his death, TMZ reported Brooke asked, in 2023, to be removed from her father's will.
