Frontman Records With Classic '70s Rock Band For First Time in 45 Years
Frontman Records With Classic '70s Rock Band For First Time in 45 Years originally appeared on Parade.
An iconic 1970s rock band announced this week that they reunited in the studio with their former frontman, 45 years since the last time they all recorded an album together.
The Doobie Brothers dropped a new album called Walk This Road on Friday, June 6, and they brought back the iconic Michael McDonald, who was last with the band full-time for the 1980 album One Step Closer.
McDonald was a lead vocalist for the Doobie Brothers from 1975 to 1982, then appeared with the band sporadically over the years, but has not been on one of their albums since One Step Closer. The 73-year-old Hall of Fame vocalist also famously performed with Steely Dan, Toto, Christopher Cross and Kenny Loggins.

McDonald reunites with Doobie Brothers founding members Patrick Simmons (guitar, lead/backing vocals), Tom Johnston (guitar, piano, lead/backing vocals) and John McFee (guitar, steel guitar, backing vocals) to go on tour starting August 4 in order to promote Walk This Road, their 16th studio album.
The album also features Mavis Staples and Mick Fleetwood. You can pre-order the 10-track album here.
In an interview, McDonald told USA Today that times sure have changed in the recording studio due to all of the technological advances.
"The technology has changed, for better or worse… The new procedure is interesting. As you're writing the song, you're recording it into a file, and that is the basis you use for the track, even if it's just a feeling," said McDonald. "So it's kind of fun to feel like the song hasn't had to morph into something else. Some of my fondest memories of being in the studio are the first time I heard the band play 'Takin' It To the Streets.' I was like, wow! When the band started playing it, it took on a whole new life.

About the upcoming tour, Simmons told USA Today that they do realize they are in the 70s now and that makes performing live and the grind of a tour a bit harder, but they've been preparing for it.
"I've got a hill I live on and walk it several times a day, and am always working on a project. Not that that counts as calisthenics. But I try to always stay in motion and on the road try to get out and walk every day. We're all in our 70s now. I used to think that was old. I do feel it, but it's hard to believe we're out here doing it at this age, and in my head, I'm still 16. You have to think beyond your age. It's a life adventure," said Simmons.
The Doobie Brothers released a string of hits starting in 1972. They are best known for "Listen to the Music," "Jesus Is Just Alright," "Long Train Running'", "China Grove," "Black Water," "Takin' It to the Streets" and "What a Fool Believes."

Disneyland says MrBeast's '$500,000' date was an after-hours experience Show Caption Hide Caption Disney launches new Florida resident ticket deal Walt Disney World has announced the launch of a new ticket deal for Florida residents just in time for the summer. Fox - 35 Orlando Disneyland is offering more detail about MrBeast's viral date after YouTube's most popular creator said he paid $500,000 to have the entire theme park to himself. "Disney won't just hand over their keys to anyone, but for this once-in-a-lifetime date, we were given the entire park for one night," MrBeast, the social media persona of Jimmy Donaldson, says in the video with more than 66 million views. For the video, Donaldson took this fiancée Thea Booysen on six dates ranging from $1 to $500,000, concluding with what he described as a private evening at Disneyland. MrBeast's trip was held after hours, park says MrBeast and his team visited Disneyland Park in Anaheim, California "a couple of weeks ago" for an after-hours experience at the park, a Disney spokesperson told USA TODAY on June 11. While MrBeast and his crew didn't have to face any lines or crowds, the park didn't change their normal operating hours to accommodate the influencer, either. Variations of this experience are available to all customers, including Disney After Hours, in which customers can purchase tickets for three extended hours after the park's traditional closing time. The park also offers Disney's Fair Tale Weddings & Honeymoons, which allows couples and their family to rent various venues, including The Sleeping Beauty Castle Forecourt and Small World Mall. One upcoming after-hours event is Disneyland's "Pride Nite" celebration from June 16-18. You may not get the park to yourself, but the park says guests can expect shorter wait times and special entertainment experiences. MrBeast's team did not immediately respond for comment when contacted by USA TODAY on June 11. Disney did not specify if it is possible for customers to rent out the entire theme park. However, several Disney-centric blogs like Magic Guides say fans shouldn't get their hopes up about getting the park to themselves for a day. "Closing down the resort for a day would be a public relations nightmare and would severely disrupt how guests could plan and book their trips," Magic Guides' author Joshua Powell wrote. One celebrity actually did rent out the park MrBeast isn't the first and likely won't be the last celebrity to make a solo appearance at Disneyland. On Feb. 27, 1992, actress Elizabeth Taylor rented out all of Disneyland to celebrate her 60th birthday. The entire park shut down for the birthday bash, which required extra security. Hundreds of celebrities attended the party, a possible marketing win for Disney. Greta Cross is a national trending reporter at USA TODAY. Story idea? Email her at gcross@

Lainey Wilson Performs With Country Legend, 61, at CMA Fest originally appeared on Parade. A duo country music fans deserve! Lainey Wilson took the stage at CMA Fest 2025 on Saturday, June 7, and was joined by none other than Wynonna Judd. Kimberly Schlapman and Karen Fairchild also performed with the powerhouse pair at the Ascend Amphitheater in Nashville, Tennessee. Of course, this isn't the first time Wilson, 33, and Judd, 61, have collaborated. In June 2024, they teamed up to record a powerful cover of Tom Petty's 'Refugee.' Wilson and Judd later made their on-stage debut to perform the track in Nashville as part of Wilson's 'Country's Cool Again' tour. Ultimately, Wilson has never been shy about her admiration of Judd. 'They were The Judds. I mean, they were the soundtrack of my childhood,' Wilson told Us Weekly in a 2023 interview referring to Wilson's musical duo with her mother, Naomi Judd. 'I remember going to my [grandmother 's] house. She'd pick me and my sister up to go eat, and we would crank up the Judds.' 🎬SIGN UP for Parade's Daily newsletter to get the latest pop culture news & celebrity interviews delivered right to your inbox🎬 As for recording music with Judd, Wilson will never forget it! 'That was one of the coolest experiences of my life. My gosh, every time I tried to use that growl in my voice, I was trying to channel my inner Wynonna. Everybody wants an inner Wynonna,' the 'Hang Tight Honey' artist said in a separate interview with American Songwriter. 'Getting to have that experience with her, in her studio, in her house, with her husband Cactus, it was wild,' Wilson recalled. 'We went in to cut the vocals at the exact same time. We were just separated by a thin wall, and we just got to riff off of each other. It was pure magic."
