Varun Chakravarthy worked as a background artist in movies for Rs 600. "Some of my friends were part of the film industry, and I started seeing a lot of movies and accompanying them to shoots to observe what was happening. I started talking to the guys, and I came to know that they are shooting for a movie called Jeeva in many cricket grounds. I went there with the intention of becoming an Assistant Director, but that didn't work out. I couldn't even make a proper pitch. Then one of the ADs asked me if I played cricket. I said, 'Only tennis-ball cricket.' So then I got to act in this movie, where I was signed as a junior artist with a salary of INR 600 per day. And that was pretty helpful at that time," Varun told R Ashwin on a podcast.

It was an incredibly difficult decision to pull out of IPL 2025, says England's Harry Brook

After having been signed by Delhi Capitals for ₹6.25 crore in the 2025 IPL mega auction, Harry Brook decided to pull out of the tournament to focus on his England National team commitments. The decision did not go down well in these parts, leading to a two-year IPL ban. Brook, however, has no regrets. He used the window to feature in outings against Zimbabwe and West Indies, and made useful runs. And in the first Test against India, he scored a crucial 99 to play his part in England's victory. On opting out of the IPL, Brook stated: 'It was an incredibly difficult decision. The IPL is an amazing tournament. It's tough cricket, with the best players in the world. The crowds and atmosphere are amazing. It is the best franchise tournament in the world. I would love to play the IPL in the future, but for the time being, the focus is on England duties,' Brook said in a media interaction organised by Sony Sports Network. Turning his attention to the second India-England Test, which begins at Edgbaston on Wednesday, Brook stated that spin may come into the picture in the latter stages of the outing. 'Historically, the Edgbaston pitch can be flatter. There is probably more in it for spinners. Otherwise, it is generally a typical English pitch. If there is any spin - and I'm completely guessing here - it will probably be late on days three, four and five,' Brook said. The 26-year-old said that he enjoyed watching Rishabh Pant bat in the first Test. 'He is an awesome player. I enjoyed watching him bat. He's an eye-catcher; everyone turns on the television when he bats. In my opinion, he is one of the best batters in the world,' Brook said. Days After Stampede, Bengaluru Stadium's Power Cut For Violating Safety Norms

Bengaluru: The power supply to M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru was cut Monday for failing to comply with safety norms, NDTV has learnt. The development comes days after 11 people died in a crowd crush outside the stadium, as tens of thousands turned up to cheer Royal Challengers Bengaluru's title win in the Indian Premier League. According to a letter dated June 4 and received by Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (BESCOM) on June 10, the Director General of Police (Fire & Emergency Services) cited multiple communications to the Karnataka Cricket Association (KSCA) that clearly instructed them to implement necessary fire safety measures at the stadium. The Karnataka cricket body had sought a week's time to resolve the issue. The directive to cut the power supply came after the state cricket body failed to comply with fire safety norms despite being issued multiple advisories. NDTV has learnt that this year's IPL matches at the stadium, with thousands in attendance, were held without adhering to proper fire safety guidelines. Even on the day of the felicitation ceremony when the stampede occurred, the stadium remained non-compliant with prescribed fire norms, said officials.
