Revealed: Why Premier League clash has been given bizarre kick-off time as fans are left furious
England's premier competition gets underway this week when defending champions Liverpool kick off their campaign against Bournemouth at Anfield on Friday evening.
Aston Villa, meanwhile, are one of the sides who have a more favourable fixture run at the start of the season, but do face a tough opener at home the Newcastle - though they will be without Alexander Isak.
In gameweek three, meanwhile, they will take on Crystal Palace at Villa Park in their second hand match of the season, but the kick off time and date has been changed to Sunday evening.
Instead of the Friday night that it was originally set for, it will now kick off 48 hours later. And the reason for that is because of the confirmation of Palace's spot in the Conference League.
After losing their appeal at being kicked out of the Europa League, Oliver Glasner 's side will take part in Europe's third-level competition, and will have to qualify to get there.
CAS lawyers had promised to hand down a verdict by close of play on Monday. And they have subsequently sided with the governing body, in what will be a devastating blow to the FA Cup winners and their fans and a decision that could cost Palace up to £20m in lost revenue.
It is also likely to be welcomed at the City Ground, with the verdict confirmation that Nottingham Forest will take Palace's place.
The Eagles had attempted to have their demotion overturned at the expense of either Forest or Lyon.
They were dropped into the third tier competition after a UEFA panel found that US businessman John Textor, whose Eagles Holdings company held a 43 per cent stake in the club, was in a position of influence at Selhurst Park.
His firm also owned French outfit Lyon, which qualified for the same competition. Lyon took priority, with only one MCO club allowed in, because they finished higher in their domestic league than FA Cup winners Palace.
As a result of the loss of appeal, though, Palace will take on either Fredrikstad of Norway or Midtjylland of Denmark in the qualifying round.
Those games will take place early on in the season, with the first leg to be played at Selhurst Park on August 21, which is a Thursday night. The return leg will be played a week later on August 28.
The fixture was also originally picked for television coverage, and it has been confirmed that it will still be shown on Sky Sports - just two days later.
Therefore, four games will be shown on Sky on the Sunday, with Brighton vs Manchester City and Nottingham Forest vs West Ham set for 2pm and Liverpool vs Arsenal scheduled for 4:30pm.
Fans were left fuming at the change. One posted on X: 'Moved again!! Is this some sort of joke?'
Another added: 'Nooooo, I'm flying over from the US and have a ticket for this. I leave the 31st!'

Manchester United are willing to offer a member of Ruben Amorim's 'bomb squad' in a stunning £120m deal for Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba. Cameroon international Baleba is believed to be United's top transfer target for the midfield position. The 21-year-old has enjoyed two impressive seasons at Brighton since his £23m move from Ligue 1 side Lille in 2023. Baleba ticks a lot of boxes for Manchester United and, according to The Independent, has indicated he is 'highly keen' for a move to Old Trafford. But Brighton have insisted they want to keep Baleba at the club for at least one more season and if they do sale, will expect to receive at least £100m. Despite Brighton potentially demanding up to £120m, The Independent say Manchester United are 'actively' trying to complete a deal. Baleba is Ineos' top midfield target and Old Trafford bosses are trying to find creative solutions to meet Brighton's steep demands. One option, it has been claimed, is to use Jadon Sancho as bait in the deal, although Brighton are not believed to be interested in the United winger. Sancho has held talks with a number of Serie A clubs this summer after being placed in Amorim's bomb squad along with Alejandro Garnacho and Antony. Brighton will demand a transfer record for an African player to sell Baleba, with Nicolas Pepe currently holding that accolade following his £72m move to Arsenal in 2019. The Seagulls are in a strong negotiating position as Baleba still has three more years left on his current contract, with Brighton also having an option to extend by 12 months. Significant player sales could alter Manchester United's stance as they are awaiting a first bid from Chelsea for Argentinian winger Garnacho. Sancho and Antony have also been put up for sale, while United are open to offers for Rasmus Hojlund following Benjamin Sesko's £74m move from RB Leipzig. Speaking at a fans' forum last week, Brighton chief executive Paul Barber admitted Baleba could leave but denied any contact with Manchester United. 'Carlos is a fantastic talent,' he said. 'We hope he'll be here for years to come – but it's subject to the dynamics of the football world, which isn't always predictable.' Baleba has been linked with Manchester City as well as Manchester United but Wes Brown believes he should push for a move to Old Trafford. 'Progress is being made' in tackling racism in football, Premier League CEO says
The head of the Premier League said work still needs to be done to tackle racism in football, but he pointed to several recent successes in clamping down on its online presence, ITV News Sports Editor Steve Scott reports. The head of the Premier League has said there has been "progress" in the effort to stamp out racism in football after Jess Carter was subject to abuse during the 2025 Euros. Speaking to ITV News, Premier League Chief Executive Richard Masters said: "I don't think any professional footballer from any walk of life should have to face abuse like that." He said efforts to stamp it out continues, but he cited the recently implemented Online Safety Act, and work with social media platforms to introduce new tools to clamp down on its proliferation on the internet. But he said: "It's not a complete piece of work yet." Carter suffered a torrid time during the tournament after being targeted by racial abuse online, which forced her off social media. She was dropped for the semi-final when the Lionesses decided not to 'take the knee' in protest of her treatment online, but she was reinstated for the final against Spain. Speaking to ITV News, Carter said she was scared to play the final, which she said was a first for her. "I think it was a mixture of such a big game, but then on top of that, [I was] scared of whatever abuse might come with it, whether it's football-based or whether it was going to be the racial abuse that was going to come with it because I did something wrong," she said. Carter said the abuse she received "makes you feel really small". "It makes you feel like you're not important, that you're not valuable," she added. 'It makes you second-guess everything that you do - it's not a nice place to be. It doesn't make me feel confident going back onto the pitch.' She said she feared teammate Lauren James would suffer "astronomical" racist abuse if she had been the only England played to miss a penalty in the quarter final against Sweden. Carter said she felt "relief" when some of her white teammates also missed. "It's horrible to say but it's almost like a sigh of relief when other players that weren't black missed a penalty, because the racism that would have come with LJ [Lauren James] being the only one that missed would have been astronomical," she added. "It's not because we want them to fail - it's about knowing how it's going to be for us [black England players] if we miss." Carter said during the tournament she would take a step back from social media because of the abuse. She said: "From the start of the tournament I have experienced a lot of racial abuse. "Whilst I feel every fan is entitled to their opinion on performance and result I don't agree or think it's ok to target someone's appearance or race." Former Leicester City player Wes Morgan told ITV News that they believe the social media giants are not doing enough to stop it on their platform. He said: "Players want to express their opinion without the consequence of being abused, and I think that's where social media needs to do more to focus on the perpetrators and ban them on the platforms."

Darren Fletcher's Son Jack Follows Dad's Footsteps Fletcher, who won 80 caps for Scotland, ended his EPL career with spells at West Brom and Stoke City. He scored 23 goals in his Premier League career and won every domestic honour with United as well as the Champions League in 2008. KEVIN GALLACHER Strike star Gallacher was a title winner under Sir Kenny Dalglish in Blackburn Rovers' historic triumph in 1994/95. The former Dundee United ace made just one appearance during the campaign as he twice broke a leg. But he scored in a 2-1 win over Crystal Palace and was handed a title medal for his role in the success. Gallacher, a Scotland hero under Craig Brown, is second behind Ferguson on the list of all-time Scots scorers with 56 goals from 198 games. He led Scotland at the World Cup of France 98 after injury ruled out Gary McAllister, and won 51 caps in all. GARY McALLISTER No other Scot has played more Premier League minutes than the 27,199 managed by McAllister in his career. He won the old First Division title with Leeds United - alongside pal Gordon Strachan - in the final season before the EPL came into existence. The former Scotland captain played 325 games and scored 49 goals for Leeds, Liverpool and Coventry. The former Motherwell kid won every domestic honour with the Reds, apart from the Premier League title. He also netted five times in 57 Scotland caps, starring at Euro 92 - where he scored against the CIS - and Euro 96. JAMES McARTHUR A graduate of Hamilton Accies' academy, midfielder McArthur became a Premier League hero with Wigan and Crystal Palace. McClair made 162 EPL appearances and contributed 18 goals and 13 assists in an era of domination for Fergie and Co. The former Motherwell and Celtic attacker won ten other trophies with United and later took on a backroom role at the club. He also scored twice in 30 caps for Scotland, including one against the CIS at Euro 92 - the same game in which McAllister scored. The Edinburgh-born defender, who won a single Scotland cap against France in 2000, was a virtual ever-present during a decade in England's top flight. No other Scottish defender has played more EPL games than Telfer, who also scored seven goals in the league. He heads the likes of James Morrison (311), Phil Bardsley (303), Dominic Matteo (276) and Neil Sullivan (247) in the top ten.
