FM Championship at TPC Boston turning into a premier stop on LPGA Tour

The purse makes it one of the highest grossing events on the LPGA schedule. The tournament, its organizers, and sponsors have gone the extra mile to cover hotel costs for all players, help to offset transportation difficulties, and include additional amenities that other tournaments might overlook.
A welcome dinner with a plethora of lobster rolls certainly helps welcome players to the area.
'Once the girls get here who haven't been here in the past, they are going to see what a premier event this is,' said Khang. 'It's going to be one of those stops where no one ever wants to miss.'

'The word's out — the FM Championship is the place to be this time of year,' said Dave Johnson, the FM senior vice president.
Khang, ranked 31st in the world, commuted to the tournament from Medford last year. She will stay at home and try to balance the golf side of the week with seeing her friends and family.
'Obviously, it's going to be in the back of my mind,' she said of playing in her home state, with plenty of support. 'It's not something that I'm going to shy away from. I think it's just exciting. Definitely going to try to tell myself on the golf course, for those 18 holes, it's just my caddie, myself, and I just doing our normal thing. Just got to focus on the task at hand and not get too ahead of myself.'
Khang still lives in Massachusetts full time, a rare feat considering how short the golf season is compared to warmer climates where year-round play is attainable.
'I just really hope it shows that for those that aren't able to move away, you can do anything,' said Khang.
'There's not many girls that come out of Massachusetts that make it on tour,' said Khang. 'To be one of them, it's a huge honor because it gives those wanting to pursue professional golf something to look up to.'

Bradley recently donated 321 items of her memorabilia to Mass Golf. Filling 23 boxes, her six major championship trophies stand proudly at its headquarters, located up the road from TPC Boston.
Bradley, who won 31 events in her LPGA career, will be in attendance for the tournament.
'It means a lot,' said Bradley. 'It means a lot for women's golf to be back in Massachusetts. We have a terrific history in golf and women's golf. When I come back next week and I walk these fairways, I'm going to hold my head up high and enjoy every minute.'
Bradley played several times in her home state in her career. Now, without the pressure of competing, she can take in the action as a fan with an appreciation for the athletes and their talents.
'To be back here at TPC Boston is a huge treat,' said Bradley. 'To watch these athletes show their talents on this golf course will be something very special that I just can't wait to watch. They are just so, so talented. They are great ambassadors to not only the game of golf, but the world of golf.'

Former Olympic champion Gable Steveson to make MMA debut at LFA 217
A post shared by LFA (@lfafighting) It's been talked about for so long, and now Gable Steveson's venture into mixed martial arts is officially happening. Steveson (0-0), a 2020 Olympic gold medalist in wrestling, will make his MMA debut against Braden Peterson (1-0) at LFA 217 on Sept. 12 from Mystic Lake Casino in Prior Lake, Minn. The promotion announced the news Tuesday in a press release. Steveson's debut is a long time coming as the possibility of trying his hand at MMA has been discussed since winning his gold medal at the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics (delayed until 2021 because of the COVID-19 pandemic). Instead of jumping straight into MMA, Steveson went the pro wrestling route and signed with WWE. His more than two-year stint with WWE ended in May 2024. Upon his release from WWE, Steveson, who'd never played football, was invited for an NFL tryout with the Buffalo Bills. Steveson got far into 2024 training camp but was cut as the team trimmed down to a final 53-man roster. Since then, Steveson has ramped up his MMA training. He spent time at Kill Cliff FC in Florida before he was invited by Jon Jones to help prepare the then-heavyweight champion for his title fight against Stipe Miocic last November at UFC 309. Steveson, 25, returned to compete in collegiate wrestling this year for the University of Minnesota. The two-time national champion, who'd won 73 consecutive matches, was denied a third title after he was shockingly upset on a last-second takedown by Oklahoma State's Wyatt Hendrickson. During a March appearance on "The Pat McAfee Show" shortly after the loss, Steveson indicated a move to MMA was in his near future. He credited Jones for being a "great mentor" to him. "I've got a great mentor right now, I hope a lot of people know a guy named Jon Jones – just a fantastic dude and the greatest fighter of all time. He's pretty damn good," Steveson said. 'I appreciate his efforts of trying to lead me into the right direction and kind of taking my back and giving me the direction that I need. I'm really young, and he's been there and done that before, so I'm really appreciative of how he's kind of walked my steps leading into this next chapter, if that's what it is.'

With fresh mentality and new wedges, Brooke Henderson tries to end victory drought in Canada
At this time last year, Brooke Henderson had lost count of how many different putters she'd had in the bag. The number is down this year, though there have been changes of late. She put in a new putter two weeks ago, and noted during her pre-tournament press conference on Tuesday that she'd be changing again later that afternoon. Still a TaylorMade Spider X but with a different grip and weight. Also on Tuesday morning, she put brand new TaylorMade wedges in the bag and said they perform better than her old ones in wet conditions. Anything that can get her closer to victory, something she hasn't tasted in two and half years. "I feel like I've been saying it for a really long time," Henderson told the media at the CPKC Women's Open at Mississaugua Golf and Country Club in Ontario, Canada. "You're probably getting annoyed with it a little bit, but I am definitely trending in the right direction and it is super close to being really good again, which is really exciting." To help, Henderson dug up old clips of when she was 14 years old, playing in her first Canadian Open. She won the event in 2018, which felt like major. Even making the cut as a youngster in her home Open felt "super cool." "Yeah, just trying to like think back like what was going through my mind when I was answering those questions back then or out there playing," said Henderson. "It's been cool. I just did that yesterday afternoon. Maybe it was the red eye or the jet lag talking, but I really enjoyed it." She played more freely as a youngster, as do most, and had a hunger to learn. She's still that way, realizing that sometimes less is more. There was a time when she played in as many as 30 events a year. She's cut back now to around 25. Canada's most decorated golfer with 13 LPGA titles, Henderson has sprinkled in top-15 finishes throughout 2025 but has yet to truly contend. The two-time major winner ranks 53rd on the CME points list and is 58th in the Rolex Rankings. "For a while, the ball-striking was a bit of an issue," said Henderson, who works with her father Dave. "I feel like we worked diligently on that, and it's back to a better spot. "So just piecing everything together. Golf is hard, and I found that out more recently than I ever have. Just trying to take it day by day, figuring it out. I think mentality for me is the No. 1 thing, trying to get back to the mental strength I had previous years."

Trump Doral back on a PGA Tour schedule crowded with big tournaments
Trump National Doral is back on the PGA Tour schedule next year as a signature event that is sure to test how often the top golfers want to play during an extraordinary spring of five big tournaments in a six-week stretch. Doral long was considered the start of the Florida swing, a can't-miss event as the PGA Tour began attracting international stars. Next year it will be a $20 million signature event the first weekend in May, part of a stretch that starts with the Masters, ends with the PGA Championship and has three signatured events in the four weeks in between. That also means players not eligible for those big events would have only two tournaments to play — one of them with a minimal purse — in that six-week stretch. 'We're excited to showcase the game's greatest players competing at golf's most iconic venues,' said Brian Rolapp, the tour's new CEO. There's virtually no change from the 2025 schedule except for a few tournaments changing dates, the Mexico Open moving to the fall and moving the opposite-field event in the Dominican Republic from March (against Bay Hill) to July (against the British Open). The PGA Tour lost the Barracuda Championship in Truckee, California, which had been opposite the British Open. It was the only tournament that used the modified Stableford scoring system. Still to be determined is a title sponsor for what now is called the Miami Championship. Doral first became part of the PGA Tour schedule in 1962. It became a World Golf Championship in 2007, and then the PGA Tour struggled to find a title sponsor when President Donald Trump bought the resort. It moved away from Trump Doral to Mexico City after 2016, prompting Trump — the presumed Republican nominee at the time — to say, 'I hope they have kidnapping insurance.' The famed 'Blue Monster' at Trump Doral then became a site for Saudi-funded LIV Golf each of the last four years. Miami is not part of the LIV schedule for 2026, although his Trump National outside Washington will be used. The spring stretch isn't the only busy part of the schedule. The PGA Tour season begins a week later on Jan. 8 at Kapalua, giving players a little more time after the holidays to get ready. That means the WM Phoenix Open, which prefers to end on Super Bowl Sunday, will be Feb. 5-8. The AT&T Pebble Beach moves back a week followed by the Genesis Invitational, both $20 million signature events. Previously, the Mexico Open was after the West Coast Swing, a week before the start of the Florida Swing. Now the Cognizant Classic in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, will follow two signature events at Pebble Beach and Riviera, and precede two more big events in the Arnold Palmer Invitational and The Players Championship. Scottie Scheffler does not play the Truist Championship in early May because he wants to support his hometown events in the Dallas area. The question for the PGA Tour is how many other players will not want to play that much amid the first two majors of the year. In another move, the Rocket Classic in Detroit goes from the last week in June — two weeks after the U.S. Open — to the first weekend in August, two weeks after the British Open. The fall portion of the schedule has not been released.
