ICICI Foundation partners with IIT Kanpur to build Digital Health Stack
To support this initiative, ICICI Foundation has pledged Rs 34 crore to IIT Kanpur, according to a statement.
'Through this project of ICICI Digital Health Stack that we initiated last year, we aim to develop deployable technology for complete evidence-based, implementable, person-focused, and digitally enabled healthcare delivery for all in Uttar Pradesh.
'…as part of this initiative, our team developed Real Time Bed Availability and Referral Portal (RT-BARP), which was successfully deployed during the Maha Kumbh 2025, ensuring better preparedness and improved medical accessibility during the event," IIT Kanpur Director Prof Manindra Agarwal said.

Govt relaxes RGHS limits on OPD, tests for pensioners
Jaipur: Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma Sunday approved amendments to Rajasthan Government Health Scheme (RGHS) under Rajasthan State Pensioners Medical Concession Scheme-2021, giving pensioners increased financial allowance for OPD medicines and diagnostic tests. "With this decision, we are ensuring that no pensioner faces financial hurdles in accessing essential healthcare. Our govt is committed to making medical services more accessible and responsive," CM Sharma said. As per a finance department notification, powers to relax the annual limits—earlier vested with the finance department—have now been transferred to medical & health department and Rajasthan State Health Assurance Agency (RSHA). Under the revised system, the annual Rs 50,000 limit for OPD medicines can be increased up to Rs 2 lakh by RSHA's additional CEO or joint CEO (authorised by the medical & health department). For amounts between Rs 2 lakh and Rs 7 lakh, the RSHA CEO will have the authority, and for amounts beyond Rs 7 lakh, the medical & health department will take the decision. Doc not at fault if consent not given
Rajendra Yadav, a police constable, was admitted on April 30, 2015, to National Heart Institute in Delhi for acute chest pain. After an angiography, his wife and her brother-in-law were informed that there was significant coronary blockage which required immediate intervention. A coronary procedure performed on April 5, 2015, but the patient's condition worsened rapidly. The ICU staff telephonically informed the Medical Superintendent and the surgeon as the patient's vitals were crashing. The surgeon reached after an hour and put the patient on ventilator, but the patient expired in a few hours. Alleging death due to medical negligence, the family called the police, and the body was sent to AIIMS for postmortem. The DCP referred the matter to the Delhi Medical Council. The Council's Disciplinary Committee gave an adverse finding against the surgeon, but in appeal he was exonerated. The patient's widow, Kamlesh, approached the National Commission, claiming Rs 5.50 crore as compensation. The National Commission noted that even though Rajendra's wife was present in the hospital, she never signed any consent form. It observed that consent for the diagnostic procedure of angiography was signed by the patient's nephew, whereas the consent for surgical procedure of PTCA was signed later by the brother-in-law. Besides, the surgeon's assertion that various family members were present but none provided timely consent was not rebutted. Accordingly, by its order of July 24, 2025, delivered by the Bench of Justice Sudip Ahluwalia along with Anoop Kumar Mendiratta, the National Commission dismissed the complaint. ESI hospital to get infra upgrade at Rs 19 crore
Margao: The Employee State Insurance (ESI) hospital in Margao is set for a major transformation with a Rs 19 crore infrastructure upgrade and the introduction of dedicated bus services. Labour minister Atanasio 'Babush' Monserrate's written reply in the recently-concluded legislative assembly session stated that a proposal for special repairs estimated to cost Rs 19 crore has been sent to ESI Corporation headquarters in New Delhi for technical sanction. The modernisation plan comes as the hospital, inaugurated in March 2014, continues to operate well below capacity despite serving over 2.1 lakh registered ESI beneficiaries across Goa. Further, govt has fast-tracked the recruitment of specialist doctors to fill vacancies. 'Filling of junior radiologist and four insurance medical officers on a regular basis is in process,' said the minister while responding to questions raised by Curtorim MLA Aleixo Lourenco. In yet another measure to optimise hospital utilisation, govt has requested Kadamba Transport Corporation Limited (KTC) to start the 'Amchi Bus' service connecting KTC bus stand in Margao directly to the ESI hospital. 'Insured persons referred from ESI dispensaries located in North Goa hesitate to travel to Margao for treatment due to the availability of govt medical facilities in the district hospital and Goa Medical College,' the minister said. A Hospital Improvement Committee has been constituted under the chairmanship of Bicholim MLA Chandrakant Shetye, along with expert doctors, to explore ways to improve facilities and maximise utilisation of available services. Shetye earlier said that the hospital's occupancy stood at just 26%, despite having 56 commissioned beds. The hospital has also established tie-ups with private medical laboratories for specific pathology services not available in-house. 'Our primary objective is to bring ESI into 'active mode' to significantly reduce the patient load at South Goa district hospital, Margao, and GMC,' Shetye said during a review meeting in June.
