Brunei youth learn more about cybercrime, online scams, AI ethics
Meanwhile a session on the ethical use of artificial intelligence (AI) in line with a recent royal decree was also presented by the Brunei Computer Emergency Response Team (BruCERT). These were among the topics discussed during the programme, organised by the Information Department, Prime Minister's Office through its Temburong District Information Branch to convey official information and the government's aspirations to youth.
The programme gathered 36 participants comprising youth from various mukims and villages in the district.
Head of the Temburong District Information Branch and programme chairperson Izzah Hazirah Adi Othman said the initiative is part of the department's whole-of-nation and whole-of-government approach, aimed at instilling a sense of responsibility towards achieving Brunei Vision 2035 goals.
She said the programme also sought to raise awareness among the participants on the importance of youth in nation-building, foster cooperation between grassroots communities and the youth, and deepen understanding of the Youth Policy 2020–2035.
Over the two days, the programme covered four key elements.
Youth development was addressed through briefings on youth aspirations and roles, along with discussion sessions on current issues and challenges by the Secretariat of the Youth Policy and Strategy, Department of Youth and Sports.
On inclusivity values, the participants visited Pusat Bahagia and Maraburong Prison to foster understanding and empathy towards various community groups.
Meanwhile, Brunei customs and traditions were highlighted through hands-on sessions on dastar tying, sinjang folding and kain wrapping, conducted by Jabatan Adat Istiadat Negara, to preserve Bruneian identity in a modernising world.
Acting Deputy Director of Information Fathi Foad Abu Bakar attended the opening ceremony at the Auditorium, Annexe Building, Information Department, Old Airport, Berakas.
The Information Department, in line with its vision to cultivate an informed society, will continue to diversify its information dissemination platforms on government policies and activities, while also providing opportunities to better understand the needs of youth. – Borneo Bulletin/ANN

Sultan Hassanal cited reports of local youths involved in cross-border drug smuggling orchestrated by international trafficking groups. The monarch also warned of overseas job scam syndicates targeting youth, noting that such schemes threaten the future of Bruneian youth and the nation's social harmony. Efforts to combat these syndicates must be strengthened through education and awareness, law enforcement, and community support. Youth themselves should bolster resilience through religious knowledge and the Malay Islamic Monarchy (MIB) values to safeguard a successful and dignified future. Sabah Day 2025 to spotlight historical education, patriotism

Deputy Chief Minister I Datuk Seri Panglima Dr Jeffrey G. Kitingan stated that this year's celebration will feature historical exhibitions, seminars and special reading materials to provide the public with opportunities to understand Sabah's journey to independence. 'This year, the event will take place on August 30 and 31 at Padang Merdeka, Kota Kinabalu. 'This year's exhibition is more comprehensive than previous ones, featuring books, documents and historical visual materials to help the community, especially the youth, better appreciate the state's history. 'Besides exhibitions, special seminars will discuss key events, state figures and Sabah's development in political, economic and social aspects. 'The celebration will also be enlivened by the Sabah Day Run, bringing together participants from all districts. All runners will gather at Padang Merdeka carrying the Sabah flag as a symbol of unity and pride on the culmination day. 'The run alone is expected to attract over 4,000 participants from various districts, while the total number of visitors throughout the celebration is projected to exceed 10,000,' he said after recording the Sabah Day Documentary and the Kami Bah Ini (KBI) programme at the Integrated Complex of the Ministry of Communications here today.
