Man claims $2.3 million from Mega-Millions ticket purchased in Inland Empire
A California man has claimed more than $2 million after matching all five numbers, just missing the Mega number, in a September drawing, Lottery officials announced Thursday.
Jose Hernandez Guerra picked up his ticket worth a total of $2.3 million from the ARCO in Riverside County's Cathedral City ahead of the Sept. 6 draw, the California Lottery stated in a news release.
'Luckily for Mr. Hernandez Guerra, California is unique among its partner states for both Mega Millions and Powerball® in that all prize levels are pari-mutuel,' the release stated.
That meant Guerra's payout was 'split among the number of players who win in the same way' instead of fixed, which would have limited him in any other state to a $1 million second-place prize.
California Lottery raises $2 billion-plus for schools in 3rd straight year, officials say
Lottery officials also mentioned other notable California Scratchers winners who already took home at least $1 million this year.
Oscar Gonazales Huinac claimed a $5.8 million win from a 200X Scratchers picked up from Tomato Market in Inglewood.
Renato Escudero spelled out an instant $2 million on the Instant Prize Crossword Scratchers game from the ARCO at 1260 Park Street in Alameda.
Oscar Nieto Capistran received a $1 million prize with a $100 Million Mega Cash Scratchers from the 7-Eleven at 2150 Placentia Avenue in Costa Mesa.
Floriano Cruz Mayo also won a $1 million prize playing Red Hot Cash purchased at JK Smoke Shop in Buena Park.
'All told these five fortunate players together claimed over $12 million in prizes to kick off 2025, all in support of California public education,' the news release stated.

Mesoblast Maintains Momentum With FDA on Accelerated Approval Pathway for Revascor® in Ischemic Heart Failure and Label Extension for Ryoncil® in Adults With GvHD
NEW YORK, June 11, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Mesoblast (Nasdaq:MESO; ASX:MSB), global leader in allogeneic cellular medicines for inflammatory diseases, today provided an update on continued momentum with United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regarding both accelerated approval pathway for Revascor® (rexlemestrocel-L) in the treatment of patients with ischemic chronic heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) and inflammation, and label extension for Ryoncil® (remestemcel-L-rknd) in adults with steroid refractory acute graft versus host disease (SR-aGvHD). In the first week of June, Mesoblast held a Type B meeting with FDA under its Regenerative Medicines Advanced Therapy (RMAT) designation for REVASCOR to discuss components of a potential filing for a Biologics License Application (BLA). There was general alignment on items regarding chemistry, manufacturing & controls (CMC), potency assays for commercial product release, and proposed design and primary endpoint for the confirmatory trial post-approval. The Company will await the final minutes from FDA in order to provide detailed feedback and timelines for potential filing. In early July, Mesoblast has an upcoming meeting with FDA to discuss a pivotal trial of Ryoncil® in adults with SR-aGvHD. This trial will be conducted with the NIH-funded Bone Marrow Transplant Clinical Trials Network (BMT-CTN), the objective being to extend the product's label from children to adults with SR-aGvHD. Ryoncil® is the first and only mesenchymal stromal cell product approved by the FDA for any indication. Ryoncil® became commercially available for purchase in the United States on March 28, 2025, within one quarter of receiving FDA approval to treat children with SR-aGvHD. More than 20 transplant centers will have been onboarded by the end of the quarter, exceeding the company's expectations at product launch. Mesoblast has continued to expand coverage for Ryoncil® to over 220 million US lives insured by commercial and government payers. To date, 37 of the 51 States provide fee-for-service Medicaid coverage for Ryoncil® through Orphan Drug Lists or medical exception / prior authorization (PA) process. The remainder will come online July 1, 2025, with mandatory coverage for all 24 million lives. 'We are very pleased with the momentum of interactions with FDA on both our cardiac and GvHD programs,' said Mesoblast Chief Executive Dr. Silviu Itescu. 'We are also encouraged by the strength of the of the Ryoncil® commercial launch, the rate of hospital onboarding, physician adoption, and payor coverage exceeding our expectations in the ten weeks since commercial launch. We will be providing an update on sales of Ryoncil® in our quarterly activities report at the end of next month.' Half of Australia to buy ticket for $100m
Powerball has jackpotted to an astounding $100m on Thursday night, the biggest prize of the year, following a $70m Oz Lotto prize that went off last week Half of all Australian adults are expected to buy a ticket to the megadraw after more than 10 million people bought tickets to the last $100m prize in November last year. At the peak 6,415 tickets were sold in a single minute to the draw – at 5.47pm. The odds of winning the grand prize are slim, coming in at a margin of one in 134 million. Only six Australians have won a Powerball prize of $100m or more. The Lott spokesperson Anna Hobdell said winning the major prize could happen to 'anyone' and would start the 'next chapter' of their life. 'Australia's biggest lottery winner was an ordinary Adelaide man who scored $150m in 2024,' Ms Hobdell said. 'All our $100 million Powerball winners all had varied plans for their prizes, but there are some beautiful common themes – taking long-overdue holidays across Australia and the globe, heartfelt generosity toward loved ones and causes close to their hearts and a renewed sense of joy and purpose. 'The $100m club is growing, and maybe we'll welcome a new member this Thursday.' A previous winner, who split a $200m grand prize with another lucky Australian, said she moved to Hawthorne in Brisbane after winning but she continued to live her life as normally as possible. 'On a day-to-day basis, not a huge amount has changed. I still get up for the 6am gym session and the dog still needs to be walked and fed. The longer-term vision we have for our life is slowly coming together,' the winner said. 'We have purchased a place near the ocean on the coast and continue to create lifelong memories with our beautiful family and friends.'
