She bought a $2 California Lottery scratcher at a liquor store. Now she's ‘set for life'
Two Northern California residents are celebrating life-changing lottery wins, with one now receiving a steady monthly windfall and the other cashing out in a multimillion-dollar lump sum. In March, Roseann Saporita of Santa Rosa won the final top prize in the $2 Set for Life Scratchers game, securing a payout of $4,000 per month for the next 25 years, the California Lottery announced this week. The ticket, purchased at MD Liquor & Food on Mission Boulevard, netted her a total of $1.2 million over time. According to the California Lottery, Saporita chose the annuity option, locking in the full monthly amount before taxes. Meanwhile, in May, Sabina Gharahgozloo scored a huge win from a 200X Scratchers ticket bought at Jessica's Grocery Store in Watsonville. That ticket came with a $10 million top prize. The state of California does not tax lottery winnings, adding to the windfall for both players. According to the California Lottery, only two top prizes remain in the 200X Scratchers series. The announcement comes as the lottery marks its 40th anniversary, with over $46 billion contributed to public schools since its founding.

East Bay man wins $10 million on California Lottery scratcher
The California Lottery has announced several recent high-value wins from scratcher tickets across Northern California. Steven Muhlestein of Concord won $10 million on a Super Bonus Scratchers ticket purchased at Vintage Wine Shoppe & Liquor, located at the corner of Clayton Road and Roslyn Drive, according to a news release Friday. In Sacramento, Ashley Eugene won $5 million with a $20 Maximum Millions Scratchers ticket she received as a Christmas gift from her father. She waited several weeks before scratching the ticket and discovering the prize. 'I kept looking at it and making sure it was correct,' Eugene said of the ticket, which was purchased at A1 Mart on West El Camino Avenue, in a statement shared by lottery officials. In Merced County, Delores Cesena won a $10 million prize from the 200X Scratchers, which was purchased at Shannon's Mini Mart located at 1100 Shaffer Road in Atwater. Another $5 million winning ticket was sold at the Gas & Go station in Georgetown (El Dorado County). The winner's identity has not yet been released and will be announced after the lottery's standard vetting process, which typically takes six to eight weeks.

Man claims $2.3 million from Mega-Millions ticket purchased in Inland Empire
A California man has claimed more than $2 million after matching all five numbers, just missing the Mega number, in a September drawing, Lottery officials announced Thursday. Jose Hernandez Guerra picked up his ticket worth a total of $2.3 million from the ARCO in Riverside County's Cathedral City ahead of the Sept. 6 draw, the California Lottery stated in a news release. 'Luckily for Mr. Hernandez Guerra, California is unique among its partner states for both Mega Millions and Powerball® in that all prize levels are pari-mutuel,' the release stated. That meant Guerra's payout was 'split among the number of players who win in the same way' instead of fixed, which would have limited him in any other state to a $1 million second-place prize. California Lottery raises $2 billion-plus for schools in 3rd straight year, officials say Lottery officials also mentioned other notable California Scratchers winners who already took home at least $1 million this year. Oscar Gonazales Huinac claimed a $5.8 million win from a 200X Scratchers picked up from Tomato Market in Inglewood. Renato Escudero spelled out an instant $2 million on the Instant Prize Crossword Scratchers game from the ARCO at 1260 Park Street in Alameda. Oscar Nieto Capistran received a $1 million prize with a $100 Million Mega Cash Scratchers from the 7-Eleven at 2150 Placentia Avenue in Costa Mesa. Floriano Cruz Mayo also won a $1 million prize playing Red Hot Cash purchased at JK Smoke Shop in Buena Park. 'All told these five fortunate players together claimed over $12 million in prizes to kick off 2025, all in support of California public education,' the news release stated.
