Couple goes out for pizza, comes back with $1 million prize
Couple goes out for pizza, comes back with $1 million prize When deciding between pizza or a burger for lunch, one California family might tell you to choose pizza. Northern California man McKinley Nelson, 72, and his wife's craving for the beloved Italian dish paid off massively, with their visit leading them to a $1 million prize, according to the California Lottery. The Yolo County couple visited a Wine & Liquor store, which shares its building with Round Table Pizza, in the city of Winters, located about 40 miles west of Sacramento. Needing some change to tip service, Nelson broke a $100 bill by purchasing two lottery tickets. "I think it was $20, and I went to the truck and started scratching," Nelson told lottery officials in a news release. The retired veteran said he recalls telling his wife: "I think this one's a million, but I'm not sure." The pair proceeded to check their winning ticket through the California Lottery app, which verified he has scored a jackpot prize. 'My wife almost had a heart attack' The pair were in near complete disbelief that their decision to tip became incredibly and instantly profitable. "So, my wife almost had a heart attack," Nelson said. "And then we had to go in and buy the pizza. It was all because of her, she's the one that likes the pizza." McKinley said he has played the California Lottery for 40 years, the news release stated. "It took a long time to win," he quipped. With the money, Nelson said he will pay off his home, save a portion of it and also purchase a camper van, according to the California Lottery. With their new recreational vehicle, they plan drive to visit McKinley's family and even further to see his wife's family. Where can you buy lottery tickets? San Francisco man wins $2 million on Lottery Scratchers ticket
A San Francisco man won $2 million on a California Lottery Scratchers ticket purchased at a downtown convenience store, lottery officials announced Tuesday. Rwhi Zeidan bought the Instant Prize Crossword ticket from Discount Cigarettes and Cigars, located at the corner of Kearny and Commercial streets. He said he was scratching the ticket to pass the time on March 5 when he realized he had won the top prize. 'I didn't read the number correctly. Twice, I read it was $2,000. Maybe the third time I read it, I found too many zeros, so I counted them one by one,' Zeidan said in a statement. 'That's when I got really shocked.' The ticket revealed a $2 million prize. Zeidan said he texted his children to share the news. 'They said, 'Who was that, you?' and I said yes,' he said. 'Until that moment, it was hard to believe.' Zeidan said he plans to use the winnings to pay off his home. The California Lottery announced several recent winners this week, including a $1 million Scratchers winner in the city of Winters. McKinley Nelson claimed the prize after purchasing a Loteria Grande ticket while picking up pizza with his wife. Nelson, a 72-year-old retired veteran, also plans to pay off his home and buy a camper van. He said he had been playing since the California Lottery started 40 years ago this year. 'It took a long time to win,' Nelson said.

Lottery player thought he won $2,000 on CA ticket. But he ‘found too many zeros'
As a California man looked to cure his boredom, he decided to take a gamble. To 'have some fun,' Rwhi Zeidan bought an Instant Prize Crossword Scratchers from a San Francisco tobacco store on March 5, California Lottery officials said in a June 10 news release. Ironically, the store sits across the street from Good Luck Café, just a few blocks from Union Square, lottery officials said. Upon reading his prize after scratching his $20 ticket, Zeidan said he realized he 'didn't read the number correctly.' 'Twice I read it was $2,000,' he told lottery officials. Then, after one more glance, Zeidan said he 'found too many zeros.' 'So I counted them one by one,' Zeidan said. 'That's when I got really shocked.' He counted six zeros; Zeidan won the game's top prize of $2 million, lottery officials said. 'I texted my kids, and they said, 'Who was that, you?' and I said yes,' Zeidan said. 'Until that moment, it was hard to believe.' Zeidan told lottery officials he plans to spend his winnings paying off his home's mortgage, 'which will give him some peace of mind.'
