Family declared ‘fake' voters by Rahul found to be genuine in EC probe
Rahul Gandhi had alleged that a family of three -- one male and two females -- were fake voters based on the fact that he was unable to view their photographs. However, images of the three individuals, along with their GPS-tagged address, have since surfaced on social media.
The photograph shows the family members displaying their Voter ID cards at their residence located on 2nd Main, JCR Layout, Panthur, near Kadubeesanahalli in Bengaluru. The three members of the family are Om Prakash Bagri, Saraswati Devi Bagri, and Mala Bagri, the ECI sources said.
Sources said the reason the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Karnataka asked Rahul Gandhi to personally submit an affidavit was due to his previous tendency to disown the allegations he made against the Election Commission of India (ECI).
'The reason for asking for a declaration this time is that in the past, he has never submitted any self-signed letter. Whatever
reply we provide is sent to some other entity, and each time he disowns it,' the sources stated.
Officials from the ECI also pointed out that Rahul Gandhi had referred to the Maharashtra issue on December 24, 2024. 'An advocate from AICC wrote to us, and we issued a detailed reply on December 24, 2024. That reply is publicly available on our website. Yet, Rahul Gandhi claims that we never responded. Even yesterday, he repeated the same allegation,' the sources explained.
The ECI sources further noted that on Thursday (August 7), the Karnataka government decided to use the electoral roll as the base for conducting the caste survey. Ironically, on the same day, Rahul Gandhi launched a scathing attack on the credibility of the electoral rolls.
While the Congress-led Karnataka government vouched for the authenticity of the electoral rolls by basing its most important policy -- the caste census -- on them, Rahul Gandhi simultaneously questioned their integrity, the ECI sources pointed out.
Rahul Gandhi held a press conference on Thursday in Delhi, making serious charges regarding committing election fraud. He gave the example of the Mahadevapura Assembly segment in Bengaluru.

Mr. Modi's visit is expected to further add to the political heat. Meanwhile, both the Congress and BJP have been trying to take credit over Namma Metro in the city.

Trump to lay out his plan for reducing crime in Washington
President Donald Trump said he will lay out his administration's plan to reduce crime in the nation's capital, even as violent incidents in the District of Columbia are at a 30-year low. Trump said in a social media post that he will have a news conference on Monday that 'will, essentially, stop violent crime in Washington, DC.' Trump on Thursday directed an increased presence of federal law enforcement around Washington, DC, a day after threatening the federal government could seize control of it. That move came a day after a former member of his so-called Department of Government Efficiency was injured during an attempted carjacking in DC. The city, which has voted overwhelmingly for Democrats for decades, has also been seeking to end all federal control of the city, a movement known as 'home rule.' Violence has been dropping in the District for two years, according to local police data. As of Jan. 3, violent crime in DC in 2024 was at a 30-year low, according to the US Justice Department. Trump's powers to 'take over' the capital city are limited. Partial home rule was established by Congress in 1973, which allows residents to elect their own mayor, who appoints the police chief. Residents also elect a District council that can pass local laws. But those laws can be overturned by Congress, which approves the city's budget. Trump can't override the home rule law without Congress, but he can assign federal agents to conduct law enforcement operations inside the city and has done so before, acting independently of the Metropolitan Police Department. He has also said that he is considering deploying the National Guard in the city. The president has often, without evidence, cast cities around the country as crime-ridden, and has increased those complaints about DC since the former staffer was attacked. Trump said on his Truth Social platform earlier this week that he wants to 'federalize' the city if local officials don't do more to address crime. Trump has issued executive orders this year that created a panel to coordinate efforts to improve safety and address graffiti and vandalism in the city, along with one that ordered a crackdown on homeless encampments on federal lands.

Shiv Sena woman worker accuses member of Thackeray-led faction of assaulting her
Mumbai, Aug 9 (PTI) A case has been registered here against a member of the youth wing of the Shiv Sena (UBT) for allegedly assaulting a woman office-bearer of the rival Shiv Sena led by Maharashtra deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. The alleged incident occurred during Narali Purnima celebration at Worli Koliwada on Friday when Shiv Sena (UBT) leader and local MLA Aaditya Thackeray and Shinde, along with their respective supporters, arrived at the same time, said an official of Dadar police station. According to the complaint filed by the woman worker of the Shinde-led party, somebody punched her in the back. When she turned around, she saw Yuva Sena member Siddhesh Shinde. A `non-cognisable' case was registered against Siddhesh under BNS section 115 (2) (voluntarily causing hurt), the official said. Police can not make an arrest in a non-cognisable case without a court's permission. Siddhesh Shinde's father and Shiv Sena (UBT) MLC Sunil Shinde said it was a politically motivated complaint, and the entire incident was captured by TV cameras. Aaditya Thackeray too dismissed the allegation. 'There was a wall of police between us. (Eknath) Shinde should stop ranting and making false complaints….It's their government after all and they can even book us by branding us as urban Naxals," Thackeray told reporters.
