Court revises MACC freeze order on London assets linked to Naimah

(Bernama pic) Kuala Lumpur: The High Court has allowed the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to amend a freeze order on assets linked to Naimah Khalid in London worth 132 million pounds (about RM758.2 million). Deputy public prosecutor Maziah Mohaide made the application before Justice Azhar Abdul Hamid today, saying the original order was inconsistent with the format required by the UK authorities. She said the amendments would include the full addresses, title details, and value of the properties, as required by the UK authorities. The assets in question comprise two commercial buildings at St Mary Axe and One Crown Court, and three luxury residences at Bryanston Square, Bryanston Mews and Lancaster Gate. The other assets include two residences at Gloucester Place and a CAF Bank Ltd (UK) account held by The Ilham Foundation. Counsel Syed Afiq Syed Albakri, representing Naimah, told the court that he would have to refile an application to intervene as the proposed amendments would render the original freeze order null and void. The court previously stayed the ex parte order to hear Naimah's application to intervene in the case, which was set for today. MMEA intercepts boat carrying foreign nationals off Kudat

KUDAT: The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) foiled an attempt to smuggle foreign nationals into Sabah on Thursday. Kudat Maritime Zone director Hasbullah Omar said the operation was based on information from the Sabah Swasla radar, which was tracked by an MMEA patrol boat at about 6.30pm. Advertisement He said the boat refused to stop when approached, prompting a short chase before it was intercepted about 10.22 nautical miles west of Tanjung Kalutan, near the waters off Pulau Balambangan, Banggi. Checks found a skipper, a crew member and eight passengers — four women and four men aged between 19 and 40 — on board, and the vessel was escorted to the Kudat Marina jetty for investigation under the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007 and Immigration Act 1959/63. Two Malaysian tourists set on fire in shocking Bangkok attack

The incident occurred at around 10pm Thursday when the suspect suddenly poured thinner from behind onto the two Malaysians – a man, Ong, 26, and a woman, Gan, 27 – who were seated on the steps near a shopping centre at the time. Advertisement The Malaysian Embassy's Chargé d'Affaires ad interim to Thailand, Bong Yik Jui, said he had visited the victims, who remain in critical but stable condition. He said Ong was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Police General Hospital, while Gan is receiving treatment at King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital. 'Ong sustained second-degree burns across his upper body, both front and back. The injuries are considered serious but not life-threatening. 'Gan suffered 36 per cent, second degree burns but her condition is stable and conscious,' he told Bernama when contacted on Friday. Meanwhile, Superintendent of Lumpini Police Station Pol Col Yingyos Suwanno said the suspect is a 30-year-old man from Sa Kaeo province, who allegedly attacked the victims out of frustration over being unemployed. He attempted to flee the scene but was apprehended by members of the public nearby.
