THE inaugural Borneo Flora Festival (BFF) 2025 in Labuan drew 48,132 visitors during the first two days of the four-day event.
The flower festival was launched by Her Majesty Raja Zarith Sofiah, Queen of Malaysia.
Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories) Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa, in her keynote speech at the launch, said BFF was designed not merely to add to Labuan's calendar of events but also serve as a catalyst for diversification and socioeconomic revitalisation, Bernama reported.
The festival themed 'Borneo Tropical Flora' features floral parades, garden installations and music performances.
The event, which also saw traditional dance performances and ushers dressed in floral fantasy-themed costumes, showcased the uniqueness and beauty of Borneo's flora and fauna through themed garden exhibitions.
A perfect spot to take selfies and wefies.
The festival showcased 200,000 varieties of tropical flowering plants across 30 themed gardens.
These included exotic species such as orchids, Rafflesia, medicinal herbs and native ferns.
Participants from the public and private sectors, local community, schools and higher education institutes contributed to the success of the event.
The festival also attracted foreign participants from neighbouring Brunei and Kalimantan, Indonesia.
This is the first time the festival is held in Labuan, following 13 previous editions held in Putrajaya.
BFF ends today.

KIIRAS × Jimmy Choo × Rafflesia? Malaysian icons spark collaboration buzz as K-pop meets fashion (VIDEO)

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 5 — A recent post on KIIRAS official social media accounts showcased a picture with Professor Datuk Jimmy Choo, the renowned Malaysian-British fashion designer and founder of the luxury brand Jimmy Choo. Choo is pictured with the girl group, holding what appears to be a book titled Kill Ma Bo$$, the same name as the group's debut single. Adding to the excitement, the post also shows the group dressed in attire designed by Peony Sin Hui Wen, a Malaysian designer and creative director at Rafflesia, a Malaysian fashion and jewellery brand known for its elegant designs. A video showcasing KIIRAS members wearing Rafflesia outfits was also posted on the group's social media accounts, tagging Choo, Sin and Rafflesia's official social media accounts. Sin, a mentee of Choo, has earned recognition for her ability to seamlessly blend heritage with contemporary style. While there's no official confirmation yet about a collaboration between KIIRAS, Choo and the Rafflesia brand, fans are speculating that a fashion-related project may be in the works down the line. Choo's elegant, handcrafted designs gained global attention in the 1990s, culminating in a feature in British Vogue and patronage from Princess Diana. Though he sold his stake in the company in 2001, Choo remains an influential figure in fashion — mentoring emerging designers and continuing to champion Malaysian talent on the global stage. It was an exciting weekend in Malaysia as KIIRAS, led by Malaysian-born Lingling, made their much-anticipated appearance in Kuala Lumpur for the first time as a group. The weekend featured various activities, including performances at the Musical Journey 2 Road Show and attendance at the Fila 'LOVE: ALL' launch event, with one of the highlights being their energetic performance of Kill Ma Bo$$ in front of a landmark billboard in Bukit Bintang. Collaborations among Malaysian trendsetters have been making waves across the nation for many years, such as Neelofa × AirAsia creating hijab-friendly uniforms and Vivy Yusof × FashionValet curating exclusive designer capsules. Only time will reveal whether KIIRAS, Choo and the Rafflesia brand will pursue a deeper collaboration in the future, as it could mark the beginning of an exciting fusion of fashion, culture and innovation.

Dua Lipa awarded Kosovo citizenship: 'Feeling grateful'

LONDON: Singer Dua Lipa expressed deep gratitude after being granted citizenship of Kosovo by President Vjosa Osmani. The 29-year-old, born in London to Kosovo-Albanian parents, spent part of her childhood in Pristina before returning to the UK at 15. In an Instagram post, Lipa shared her joy, writing, 'Feeling so grateful to have been awarded my Kosovan citizenship by our president.' President Osmani also celebrated the occasion, posting a photo of the ceremony with the caption, 'Welcome home Dua.' Osmani praised Lipa's contributions, stating, 'Dua and Kosovo have always been inseparable. She has been and continues to be one of the most powerful voices on the world's biggest stages, making history with her achievements and becoming an inspiration to millions.' The ceremony included a heartfelt performance by children singing Lipa's hit Levitating. Reflecting on the moment, Lipa said, 'Every time I come back to Kosovo, it always feels like coming home. 'Receiving citizenship from President Osmani is such an honour and feels like my two sides are now one.' This follows Lipa's recent performance at Kosovo's Sunny Hill Festival, where she sang Era alongside her father in Albanian. She described the experience as unforgettable, sharing on X, 'Performing for you, and sharing the stage with my dad was a moment I'll never forget.' Lipa, who also holds Albanian citizenship, has achieved four UK number-one singles and two chart-topping albums. Known for hits like New Rules and One Kiss, she continues to bridge cultures through her music. - Bernama-PA Media/dpa
