Darren Till: Paddy Pimblett probably has best chance to beat UFC champion Ilia Topuria

Darren Till has a bold take on UFC lightweight champion Ilia Topuria's toughest challenge. UFC lightweight champion Topuria has been on a tear with three-straight knockouts over featherweight champ Alexander Volkanovski, BMF champ Max Holloway, and most recently former champ Charles Oliveira at UFC 317. He has looked near flawless throughout his professional MMA career, displaying elite grappling and incredible knockout power. So who can be the one to hand Topuria (17-0 MMA, 9-0 UFC) his first-career loss? Till says his fellow Liverpool native Pimblett (22-4 MMA, 7-0 UFC) can. "Paddy has probably got the best chance to beat Ilia, and I know it sounds ridiculous because I don't think Paddy's on his level in terms of skillset yet – he will get there," Till said in an interview with Compare Bet. "But I just think Paddy with his coaches and the way they strategize, and how big he is, and how sort of loose he is, I think Paddy has a great chance of beating Ilia Topuria. "A lot of people will be against that opinion, but I've said this for years about Paddy, people like to give Paddy sh*t, but he can fight. He's got a solid team around, and he obviously works hard because of the shape he gets in." Pimblett got the opportunity to face off with Topuria after "El Matador" claimed the vacant 155-pound title at UFC 317. With his best win coming over the skidding Michael Chandler at UFC 314, Pimblett's resume doesn't quite stack up with the rest of the top contenders such as Arman Tsarukyan – and Till is aware of that. "Whether you love or hate Paddy, and he's not a close friend by any sense of it, but you have to give Paddy props," Till said. "I know his opponents are questionable and the loss and stuff, but you can only fight who is in front of you. And people will say, 'He's getting built,' of course he's getting built. Like me, because we speak, we talk the talk, why wouldn't you build Paddy? Stop being a hater."

Dan Hooker laughs off Charles Oliveira's 'false accusations' of rejecting UFC Rio fight

Contrary to what Charles Oliveira claims, Dan Hooker says he was never offered to fight him in Rio. Oliveira (35-11 MMA, 23-11 UFC) accused Hooker of rejecting a bout offer for the UFC Fight Night 261 headliner on Oct. 11 at Farmasi Arena in Rio de Janeiro. Hooker (24-12 MMA, 14-8 UFC), who's been recovering from hand surgery, initially called out Oliveira for a November showdown and explained why that's the earliest he can fight. "Charlie Olives, you've been lying in my name, my friend," Hooker told Sky Sports New Zealand. "He said I was offered a fight with him October in Brazil, and I turned it down. False accusations. I was never offered. You think that's really how that phone call went? You think in your mind of minds, in your heart of hearts, that I got a phone call from the UFC that said, 'Do you want to fight semi-conscious Charles Oliveira in eight weeks?' And I said, 'Oh no, I'm scared of Charlie Olives' lifeless body floating around the cage.' No, that's not how that went down. I was never offered that fight. I require medical clearance for my hand. I went to the surgeon. He did not medically clear me for October. He cleared me for November." As a result, Oliveira will take on Rafael Fiziev (13-4 MMA, 7-4 UFC) in the main event for the UFC's return to Brazil. Hooker questioned Oliveira and his team's decision to take a fight just three months after suffering a clean knockout loss to Ilia Topuria at UFC 317. "I can't even imagine why he's fighting in October," Hooker said. "I don't know who watched his last fight against Ilia Topuria, and seen the back of his head bounce off the mat like a basketball and said, 'You know what, I'd like to see him match for a fight in six weeks' time against Rafael Fiziev.' That makes absolutely no sense. ... Are you serious? "Six weeks ago, he was knocked out bad, unconscious, and now in eight weeks' time, he's going to step in the cage against Rafael Fiziev. That's three-and-a-half months between his last knockout loss – so you're telling me right now that he's in training camp, in sparring, getting hit in the head after that. Six weeks' time after getting absolutely stone-cold flat lined. As a fan, I can't see anyone even wanting to make this fight happen against a guy like Rafael Fiziev."

Israel Adesanya struggles to pick Dricus Du Plessis vs. Khamzat Chimaev winner at UFC 319

Israel Adesanya believes UFC middleweight champion Dricus Du Plessis' strong will should help him prevail against Khamzat Chimaev. Du Plessis (23-2 MMA, 9-0 UFC) defends his title against Chimaev (14-0 MMA, 8-0 UFC) in Saturday's UFC 319 (pay-per-view, ESPN, ESPN+) main event at United Center in Chicago. Adesanya was submitted by Du Plessis in their title fight at UFC 305 last August, when he felt the champion get tired but still push through. "I've looked at this fight two ways: Khamzat comes out, just grabs a hold of DDP, and just drags him into deep water in the first or second, and finishes him," Adesanya said on his YouTube channel. "Or DDP matches his crazy, matches Khamzat's crazy with his own type of crazy and his willingness to not quit, and then drags Khamzat into deep waters of the third, fourth, or fifth round and gets him out of there. That's how I see this fight going." Adesanya decided to stick with his latter theory. "Khamzat showed his hand. He's going to go after him from the get-go," Adesanya added. "But DDP, I think, can weather the storm and probably finish Khamzat later on. Because Khamzat, if it gets to Rounds 3, 4, 5, it's going to be a problem. It probably won't get to Round 5. I say Round 3 or 4, DDP. But if Khamzat is going to win, it's going to be in the first round. It's going to be impressive, it's going to be spectacular, it's going to be violent. I'm going to go with DDP. "It's good if he's champion, (but) the UFC probably wants Khamzat to be champion because he is a guy that brings a lot of eyes, says it and gets it done type sh*t. But I like having DDP as champion because I still think it's inspiring to a lot of Africans – especially South Africans, as well, like me, Kamaru, and Francis did for the continent as the three kings. He can do that solely as the African champ in the UFC. So yeah, I think he'll get it done. He's just stubborn. I'm going to go Dricus by late TKO."
