ACC Network broadcast was in disbelief after Notre Dame beat Pitt on a dreadful last-second foul call
The Pitt Panthers went into Tuesday's ACC tournament opener against Notre Dame essentially needing to run the table in Charlotte to make the NCAA tournament.
Instead, the Panthers got bounced after one game in a way that will sting all offseason.
With the game tied in the final seconds, Markus Burton's desperation jumper was wide off the side of the rim, but Notre Dame's Tae Davis was there for the tip-in chance and somehow missed. Now, Pitt's Zack Austin did make somewhat of an attempt to contest the last-second tip, but the far-side official saw it as a foul.
You won't see many weaker calls than that, though, and the ACC Network broadcast of Wes Durham, Cory Alexander and Jim Boeheim were in disbelief at the whistle in that situation.
That call sent Davis to the line with less than a second remaining, and he split the pair to give Notre Dame the 55-54 win.
Pitt head coach Jeff Capel didn't hold back about the call either, telling reporters that he was shocked with how that game ended.
With the loss, the Panthers likely head into the offseason unless the NIT or CBI give them an invite (and they may decline those).

Notre Dame basketball land top-60 point guard Jonathan Sanderson, son of Irish staffer

Notre Dame basketball land top-60 point guard Jonathan Sanderson, son of Irish staffer Notre Dame basketball sure has a family feel to it, and on Sunday that continued with the commitment of 2026 point guard Jonathan Sanderson. The 6-foot, 2-inch and 170-pounder is the son of new director of men's basketball strength and conditioning, Jon, is ranked as the No. 52 overall player in his class according to the 247Sports Composite. The younger Sanderson chose Notre Dame over offers from Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Michigan State and others. While it may have seemed like it was guaranteed that the father-son duo would reunite in South Bend, it wasn't the case. Sanderson clearly had other impressive offers and could have chosen any of those schools as well. It is the first commitment for head coach Micah Shrewsberry in the 2026 cycle, as the Irish had a very talented 2025 class signed headlined by Jalen Haralson, the highest ranked recruit ever to commit to Notre Dame. Hopefully another impressive class is building, and Sanderson is a step in the right direction.

Notre Dame AD Pete Bevacqua to discuss college athletics with President Trump

Notre Dame AD Pete Bevacqua to discuss college athletics with President Trump Notre Dame athletic director Pete Bevacqua and SEC commissioner Greg Sankey are reportedly meeting with President Donald Trump Sunday to discuss the future of college athletics. According to Ross Dellenger of Yahoo! Sports, Bevacqua and Sankey are traveling to Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster to have a round with the 47th President, who is interested in discussing the college sports industry's future while on the course. This reported meeting comes at a time when the state of college athletics has never been more in flux. The House vs. NCAA settlement was finally finalized this past Friday evening, clearing a path for future revenue-sharing payments to be made directly to student-athletes for the very first time, further professionalizing college athletics. It allows for the establishment of an NIL Go Clearinghouse, which would have to approve NIL payments of more than $600 to student-athletes beginning this summer. Trump's interest in college athletics is nothing new. Previously he was working on a college sports commission that reportedly was going to be co-chaired by former Alabama head coach Nick Saban. Certainly there is never a dull day in the business of college athletics.
