ACC Network broadcast was in disbelief after Notre Dame beat Pitt on a dreadful last-second foul call
The Pitt Panthers went into Tuesday's ACC tournament opener against Notre Dame essentially needing to run the table in Charlotte to make the NCAA tournament.
Instead, the Panthers got bounced after one game in a way that will sting all offseason.
With the game tied in the final seconds, Markus Burton's desperation jumper was wide off the side of the rim, but Notre Dame's Tae Davis was there for the tip-in chance and somehow missed. Now, Pitt's Zack Austin did make somewhat of an attempt to contest the last-second tip, but the far-side official saw it as a foul.
You won't see many weaker calls than that, though, and the ACC Network broadcast of Wes Durham, Cory Alexander and Jim Boeheim were in disbelief at the whistle in that situation.
That call sent Davis to the line with less than a second remaining, and he split the pair to give Notre Dame the 55-54 win.
Pitt head coach Jeff Capel didn't hold back about the call either, telling reporters that he was shocked with how that game ended.
With the loss, the Panthers likely head into the offseason unless the NIT or CBI give them an invite (and they may decline those).

BREAKING: SEC to add ninth conference game starting in 2026

Adding a ninth SEC game might help expanded playoff negotiations The Southeastern Conference announced late Thursday afternoon it would implement a nine game conference schedule starting in the 2026 college football season. The change was first recommended by SEC commissioner Greg Sankey. 'Adding a ninth SEC game underscores our universities' commitment to delivering the most competitive football schedule in the nation. This format protects rivalries, increases competitive balance, and paired with our requirement to play an additional Power opponent, ensures SEC teams are well prepared to compete and succeed in the College Football Playoff.' - SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey The SEC will join the Big Ten and Big 12 as leagues with nine conference games. The ACC will be the only power conference playing eight league games. However, the ACC said it would consider adding a ninth game if the SEC did the same. But adding a ninth conference game, the SEC also provides more revenue to conference members from ESPN. The SEC will also now require members to schedule at least one high quality non-conference opponent from either the Big Ten, Big 12, ACC or Notre Dame each year. Texas is set in this department, with non-conference opponents like Ohio State, Michigan, Notre Dame and Arizona State in the coming years. The scheduling change could impact negotiations between the SEC and the Big Ten to expand the the college football playoff. The differences in number of league games has been a sticking point between the two conferences. New SEC Scheduling Format: For Texas, the three annual rivalry opponents probably means that the Oklahoma Sooners, Texas A&M Aggies and Arkansas Razorbacks will be on Texas' schedule every year. The rest will rotate. That also means a possible future rivalry with LSU might not get off the ground. Follow us on X/Twitter at @LonghornsWire.

Notre Dame Drops New Logo With Leprechaun Carrying Football

Football teams are constantly dropping new jerseys and helmets. Well, now they're dropping new logos. Notre Dame unveiled a new logo for the 2025 college football season on Thursday morning that features a leprechaun carrying a football. The leprechaun in a fighting stance has traditionally been the mascot logo of Notre Dame since the 1960s, with a gold "ND" being the acronym logo. Of course, a leprechaun has long been the school's mascot. This new logo is specific to the football program but the school stated that it plans to release sports-specific marks for all its varsity sports. The Fighting Irish are coming off a 14-2 campaign, headlined by them reaching the National Championship and making the College Football Playoff for the first time in four years. No. 6 Notre Dame opens the 2025 season with a pair of ranked matchups, those being a Week 1 road game against No. 10 Miami (FL) and a Week 2 home game against No. 19 Texas A&M. It named redshirt freshman CJ Carr its starting quarterback earlier this week. The Fighting Irish are entering their fourth complete season with head coach Marcus Freeman (he coached the final game of the 2021 season). Want great stories delivered right to your inbox? Notre Dame will host 5-star 2027 South Carolina cornerback when they host Texas A&M

Rivals No. 1 CB in five-star Joshua Dobson has visits set to Clemson, Notre Dame and South Carolina. He talks about each program here: The list of elite prospects visiting Notre Dame for its contest against Texas A&M just got bigger on Thursday. On3's Steve Wiltfong is reporting (subscription required) that 5-star South Carolina cornerback Joshua Dobson will be making an unofficial visit between the top-25 combatants. The 6-foot, 1-inch and 175-pounder also has set up trips to see Clemson and South Carolina early in the season, as it looks like the Irish are chasing the reported leader Tigers in his recruitment. Dobson is one of the top players in the country regardless of position, as he's ranked as the No. 5 overall recruit in the 247Sports Composite. He made multiple visits during the spring, but didn't get a chance to check out South Bend. The Irish made their offer to him in mid-March during their 'Pot of Gold' day, as Dobson could be the next success story that comes out of the festivities. You can expect that the Irish will go hard after him, even though they aren't viewed as his current leader. Plenty could change following his early season visits, and hopefully Notre Dame is still near the top of his list following those trips.
