Baseball: Senga pitches Mets past Rockies for 6th win
NEW YORK (Kyodo) -- New York Mets pitcher Kodai Senga picked up his sixth win of the season after working 6-1/3 solid innings in an 8-2 victory over the Colorado Rockies on Saturday.
Senga (6-3) held the struggling Rockies to two runs and two hits while striking out seven and walking two in a 92-pitch outing at Citi Field.
After giving up a solo home run to Ezequiel Tovar with one out in the top of the first inning, the Japanese right-hander, known for his "ghost forkball," settled in to retire 17 straight batters.
In the seventh, Senga walked two of the first three batters and allowed an RBI single to Thairo Estrada that trimmed the Mets' lead to 7-2.
Senga now leads the National League with a 1.60 ERA.
Brett Baty hit a bases-loaded triple in the first and Brandon Nimmo added a two-run homer in the fourth for the Mets.
At Dodger Stadium, Shohei Ohtani went 2-for-4 with a pair of singles in the Los Angeles Dodgers' 18-2 rout of the New York Yankees.
At Wrigley Field, Chicago Cubs designated hitter Seiya Suzuki extended his hitting streak to a career-high 11 games with an eighth-inning RBI double in a 2-0 win over the Cincinnati Reds.
