Everything Jay Johnson said after LSU baseball's regional win vs. Little Rock
LSU baseball beat Little Rock on Monday night to win game 7 of the Baton Rouge Regional and punch its ticket to the super regional.
LSU began the regional 2-0, cruising to shutout victories over Little Rock and Dallas Baptist. But Little Rock fought its way out of the losers' bracket and pushed LSU to the brink. The Trojans pulled off the upset on Sunday and looked on their way to a historic win on Monday, leading LSU 5-1 in the winner-take-all contest.
But then LSU found life. Ethan Frey struck a three-run double, and Casan Evans started mowing down Little Rock hitters. At one point, Evans had nine straight strikeouts. The true freshman's stuff was electric.
LSU is now two wins away from returning to the College World Series. All that stands between LSU and a trip to Omaha is West Virginia. The Tigers have the week to rest with the series not starting until Saturday.
Before our attention completely shifts to the next round, here's what LSU baseball head coach Jay Johnson said after Monday's regional win.
On Little Rock
"First, I want to just say congratulations to Coach Curry and Little Rock. Tremendous run here these last couple of weeks. Massive hat tip, massive respect, absolutely took us to the mat," Johnson said.
"I don't know that I've seen a better-prepared team, a more competitive team, or well-coached team at any point. I told the players, tonight is one of the best wins of my entire career, because of what they had to do to earn it."
The grit of Monday's win
"We won tonight because of character. And when I think about character, I think about Luis, I think about Ethan, and I think about Casan. And I've said this before, maybe in reference to them, but this is what an LSU baseball player is supposed to be and needs to be in all phases," Johnson said.
On Ethan Frey and Luis Hernandez
"You look at the offensive performance by Ethan, that's arguably the best game I've ever seen any one of my players play, considering the situation," Johnson said.
"Luis, clutch. I mean, absolutely clutch. Sometimes you look at a player in the eye in the on-deck circle, and you go, this is about to be good. And special night tonight, great toughness catching four games in a row, really proud of him for that, and maintaining massive offensive production," Johnson said of Hernandez.
On the environment of Alex Box Stadium
"I want to echo what the players said about the environment tonight was special. Like, maybe the super regional a couple of years ago, I don't ever remember it like that. And it's been great. I mean, that was like another bar. And the thing I'm most grateful for is maybe in those nervous moments for them, I felt like they really lifted the team," Johnson said.
"They kept going. You know, they kept supporting the players. And that's all I care about. And baseball is not a game to be played, designed to be played perfectly all the time. And the fans here, they love LSU no matter what."
Did LSU feel pressure?
With top seeds falling across the country, Johnson was asked if that added any pressure to LSU. Johnson said he didn't even turn on the TV in his office on Monday.
Johnson said he called the team in earlier than usual, too.
"The approach today was a little bit different. I actually brought something back from my past. I did it at Arizona when we'd host and we'd play really late games. I actually brought them in early in the day as kind of like a, hey, this is a checkpoint type deal. And they didn't need any motivation today. It was actually pretty cool. I actually just wrote on the board the lineup. I wanted everybody to know the lineup early. I wanted everybody to know the pitching plan and the guys on the bench. And next to each name, I wrote down what their job was tonight. And it was pretty cool to actually see the game play out the way that it did," Johnson said.
Bringing Anthony Eyanson out of the pen
Johnson said the decision to pitch Eyanson in game 1 was because he knew that would give Eyanson a chance to pitch in relief if needed on Monday. When LSU was losing on Sunday, Johnson said he looked to Eyanson and the transfer said, "I got it."
Twenty-four hours later, Eyanson took a walk to the bullpen to warm up.
"He doesn't take very long to get ready," Johnson said, "I mean, the dude's like a ridiculous athlete, ridiculous physical condition,"
Johnson said the decision to use Eyanson out of the pen in the SEC Tournament was to prepare him for a moment like this on a bigger stage.
The importance of Jared Jones' home run
"Yeah, that's probably the most excited I've been, at least in this season. He had a big homer as a freshman against Alabama in a crazy game that we'd kind of come back in like that. So I just love him," Johnson said.
"He hadn't had a good couple of weeks here, but we were working today, and there was just like one of those good coach moments where somebody is, you know, you can tell how hard they're fighting themselves because they care so much. And they want to be the guy for the team. Wasn't about him or his performance. He's way past that. Like, he's been such a great leader this year. And just the work that was put in today mentally and physically," Johnson said.
"That was a huge deal."
On the lineup change
Johnson went with a different lineup than he had the first three games of the regional. The starting nine was the same, but there was a new order.
"I just operate by this. When do you take a risk? You take a risk when you have a lot to gain. We had a chance to play a super regional at home, two wins to go to Omaha, seven more to win a national championship, maybe eight. It was time to take a risk. And then you don't just do it to do it. There's never a decision in this program made just because I want to make a decision," Johnson said.
I'll walk you through the whole thing. So Derek Curiel is the engine of this offense. That's what he is. He's the engine of this offense. And how he plays inspires the team," Johnson said, "And then it's Ethan Frey, one of the best hitters in the country right now, and I wanted to get him up as much as we possibly could."
Johnson went on to say he moved Milam up to No. 3 thanks to Milam's quality ABs throughout the regional.

The most daring outfits Dakota Johnson has ever worn, from see-through dresses to mismatched shoes
When it comes to fashion, Dakota Johnson has a chic and seemingly effortless style. However, the "Fifty Shades of Grey" star also regularly experiments with daring looks. She's worn sheer dresses, plunging necklines, mismatched shoes, and more. If you somehow haven't noticed, Dakota Johnson has been everywhere lately. She made multiple appearances at the Cannes Film Festival in May, has since been photographed all over New York City, and has appeared on multiple late-night talk shows this month. The 35-year-old actor has, of course, been promoting her film "Materialists," which she stars in alongside Pedro Pascal and Chris Evans. All the while, she's stood out in her signature style: chic, effortless outfits that are also quite bold. Here's a look at the most daring looks she's worn lately, and ones she's donned in the past. Dakota Johnson's bold red-carpet style can be traced back to her 2012 appearance at a GQ party. For the event, she wore a long-sleeved lace top over a black bra and tucked the former into high-waisted leather pants. By 2013, she was already elevating her daring fashion. At the LACMA Art + Film Gala that year, she wore a black Gucci dress with multiple daring elements. It had netted sleeves up top, golden feathers across her chest, and green fringe on her skirt. The actor showed the playful side of her style in 2015. While in New York City, she wore a fuzzy green vest over a tan jumpsuit. And she didn't stop there. Johnson also wore strappy heels and sunglasses that made the casual outfit look dramatic and glam. For the UK premiere of "Fifty Shades of Grey," Johnson wore a striking Saint Laurent gown. She then attended the 2015 Venice Film Festival in a backless, blush-colored gown. The Prada design hugged her body in the front and revealed her tattoos on her back. Johnson embraced sheer fashion again for the 2015 "Trumbo" premiere. She walked the red carpet that night in a black velvet gown with sheer sleeves and matching mesh panels across her waist and legs. Plunging necklines remained a staple of the actor's wardrobe in 2017. At the "Fifty Shades Darker" premiere that year, Johnson arrived in a shapeless Valentino gown with a V-neckline that plunged below her chest. A few weeks later, she went full metallic for the Oscars. Her gold Gucci gown was made from satin. It had a high pleated neckline, long sleeves, and an oversize bow at the waist. She then stood out at the Green Carpet Fashion Awards in a semi-sheer Gucci gown. The skin-revealing design was made from black tulle, Swarovski crystals, and recycled brass. Johnson embraced the "no-shirt" trend at the 2017 Hollywood Film Awards. She wore a vibrant red suit jacket with no shirt underneath, matching trousers, and a diamond choker. Equally daring were her mismatched heels, which had giant crystals on one shoe but not the other. In 2018, the actor put a glamorous twist on the sheer trend at the Venice Film Festival. She later opted for a dramatic gown at the Marrakech Film Festival. Johnson swapped her usual gowns for a bold minidress in 2019. She walked the red carpet at "The Peanut Butter Falcon" screening in a Saint Laurent design. It featured a large bow as a top, a triangle cutout at the chest, and all-over crystal designs. Johnson wore one of her most daring and stunning looks at the 2021 Venice Film Festival. Her silver Gucci gown had a plunging neckline, a see-through bodice and skirt, and crystal fringe. The see-through corset she wore to "The Lost Daughter" premiere was also bold. Johnson paired it with leather pants, pointed pumps, and a diamond necklace. However, she took her daring fashion to another level the next day. While meeting fans in New York City, Johnson was photographed wearing a cream-colored dress with a high slit in its skirt that almost reached her hips. In November 2021, Johnson attended a fashion show in a fringe minidress. Her Gucci frock was held together by sparkling belts strapped across her chest, and matched her Gucci-logo tights. She wore Gucci again in December 2021. The look was even more eye-catching than her last. She wore pink satin pants — they were so wide they resembled a skirt — and a cropped, crystal-covered top that was sleeveless with a deep V-neckline. At the 2022 Met Gala, Johnson wore a see-through catsuit made from black lace. The "naked" design from Gucci was covered with long silver fringe and delicate sparkles. To kick off 2023, Johnson wore her own version of a Canadian tuxedo. The Magda Butrym look included a denim bustier, a matching trench coat, and baggy jeans. She went the opposite direction in May that year. In 2024, Johnson wore the most sheer gown of her career. At the "Madame Web" premiere, Johnson sported a custom chainmail gown from Gucci that sparkled in the light. It was sleeveless, plunged at the neckline, and see-through. Though the gown did appear to have a small lining, it matched the actor's skin tone perfectly and created the illusion that she was only wearing the crystal links. Johnson is still staying loyal to sheer clothes in 2025. In early June, she was photographed walking around New York City in a maroon bodysuit beneath a black tulle dress. The latter had long sleeves, a wrapped neckline, and a flared skirt, making for a classic silhouette. However, it was entirely see-through.

Dakota Johnson, 35, Turns Heads in See-Through Dress Amid Split Reports
Dakota Johnson, 35, Turns Heads in See-Through Dress Amid Split Reports originally appeared on Parade. Dakota Johnson stepped out in Tribeca on June 5 wearing a sheer dress. The outfit consisted of a strapless leotard underneath sheer fabric that featured a high neckline and long-sleeves. The Fifty Shades of Grey star was photographed leaving her hotel in New York City before heading to tape Late Night With Seth Meyers. This marked the latest stop on Johnson's recent press tour for the new film, Materialists. The outing comes just days after People magazine reported that Johnson and her fiance Chris Martin had split. "It feels final this time," a source told the outlet. Neither Johnson nor the Coldplay singer, who had been dating since 2017, have spoken out about the reports. The two were last photographed together in mid-May. For now, Johnson seems focused on her career — and her newest film. It's really the first time that she's appeared in a rom-com outside of Fifty Shades, which was a bit more... intense. In an interview with the LA Times, Johnson explained that she chose not to take on rom-com rolls because "they're not good." 🎬 SIGN UP for Parade's Daily newsletter to get the latest pop culture news & celebrity interviews delivered right to your inbox 🎬 'I think a lot of what I read these days is void of soul and heart. And Celine is all soul and heart. I really love a rom-com if it feels like I can connect to the people in it. And I think I've found it hard to connect to the people in some of the ones that I've been offered," she said, referring to Materialists director, Celine Song. But Johnson admits she couldn't turn down this particular role. The reason? 'The complexities of all of the characters. The paradox. Everyone being confused about what the f— they're supposed to do with their hearts. And what's the right move? I found that very honest and I found it just so relatable," she said.
