Who is Rupert Murdoch? Donald Trump sues media tycoon over Wall Street Journal Epstein report — check his net worth

Mint7 days ago
Media magnate Rupert Murdoch, often in limelight due to his personal relationships, was sued by US President Donald Trump, prompting headlines about him again.
Donald Trump on Friday sued The Wall Street Journal and its owners including Rupert Murdoch for at least $10 billion over the newspaper's report that his name was in a 2003 birthday greeting card for sex offender Jefferey Epstein that featured a sexually suggestive drawing and a reference to secrets they shared.
'We have just filed a POWERHOUSE Lawsuit against everyone involved in publishing the false, malicious, defamatory, FAKE NEWS 'article' in the useless 'rag' that is, The Wall Street Journal,' he said on Truth Social.
The lawsuit filed in Miami federal court names Murdoch, Dow Jones, News Corp and its Chief Executive Robert Thomson, and two Wall Street Journal reporters as defendants, saying they defamed Trump and caused him to suffer 'overwhelming' financial and reputational harm.
'I hope Rupert and his 'friends' are looking forward to the many hours of depositions and testimonies they will have to provide in this case,' Trump said in his post.
Rupert Murdoch is an Australian-American business magnate, investor, and media mogul, known for creating one of the largest media empires in the world.
Through his company News Corp, Murdoch owns hundreds of local, national, and international publishing outlets around the world, including countries like the US, UK and Australia.
The media magnate has companies including The Wall Street Journal, Fox News, Sky News Australia, New York Post and The Sun among outlets under his ownership.
Despite often associated with right-leaning news coverage, Rupert Murdoch's media companies have sometimes been criticised by Trump supporters — many a times when they did not align with their views.
This is not the first time that Trump has clashed with Murdoch, but the Jefferey Epstein case blew out of proportion with the President's lawsuit.
Many of Murdoch's newspapers and television channels have been accused of right-wing biased and misleading coverage to support his business interests.
During Donald Trump's term as US President, Murdoch expressed support for him and his party through the news coverage broadcast in his media empire, including on Fox News.
However, the relationship between the two has been complicated, as they fell out in 2020 over the Presidential election that year.
At 93, Rupert Murdoch is considered one of the biggest media moguls in the world.
According to Forbes, Rupert Murdoch has a staggering net worth of $24.1 billion, making him one of the richest media persons in the world.
The WSJ report said that the letter bearing Trump's name was part of a leather-bound birthday book for Epstein that included messages from other high-profile people.
The newspaper said the letter concluded "Happy Birthday - and may every day be another wonderful secret," and featured the signature "Donald."

Akali Dal fears ‘3rd false case' against Majithia

Chandigarh: The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Friday accused vigilance bureau (VB) officials of creating false evidence against former minister Bikram Singh Majithia after failing to gather proof in the alleged false case of disproportionate assets against him. Addressing a press conference here, SAD chief spokesman Arshdeep Singh Kler and advocate Damanbir Singh Sobti said they apprehended that a "third false case" could be registered against Majithia. They also said they would move court to seek live streaming of the court proceedings of the assets case. Kler said, "The VB failed to buttress their claims that 29 mobiles were recovered from Majithia, including Rs 141 crore transactions, Rs 540 crore investment, and 1,000 acres of land in Himachal Pradesh." He also said that the VB "floated a new theory of a SIM card in the name of a person while Majithia has nothing to do with any such SIM as he uses a number which was issued in his own name". The two alleged the VB was picking up people illegally and torturing them to sign statements under Section 164 of the CrPC." Sobti claimed two people were picked up from Amritsar on July 21. "They were kept in a private hotel in Amritsar and compelled to sign their statements under Section 164, stating that investments done by his late brother Rupinder Singh were done with cash given by Bikram Singh Majithia." by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like American Investor Warren Buffett Recommends: 5 Books For Turning Your Life Around Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo Sobti said, "The family of these two people approached the Punjab and Haryana high court and a Habeas Corpus petition was filed. The high court appointed a warrant officer who raided the VB office at Mohali along with a team. When the govt came to know about this development, they were immediately taken to Amritsar and were forced by vigilance officials to give a statement to their family that they were coming in a bus, which they refused. " Sobti claimed that the statement of one individual was being recorded under which he was told to state that another person made an investment with cash received from Majithia. Sobti also alleged that a person "who introduces himself as a retired CBI official and adviser of Arvind Kejriwal in his legal cases, visited the vigilance office regularly and guided officials on how to proceed in the case." Sobti also named another person, who he claimed, "dictated Punjab officials in the case. " MSID:: 122905195 413 |

Rajkot investor alleges 2.65cr fraud in land deal, 2 booked

Rajkot: A real estate investor from Rajkot has filed a police complaint at the University police station, alleging he was defrauded of Rs 2.65 crore in a bogus land deal. The complaint names two accused — Jignesh Shah and Deval Shah. According to the FIR filed by Dinesh Kunjadiya, the incident dates back to 2022 when he was introduced to Jignesh Shah through a mutual acquaintance, Gabhru Bolia. Shah claimed to be the legal advisor for Raj Radhe Finance Limited and offered to help Kunjadiya purchase a shop and a plot of land in the Lati Plot Revenue area on Kuwadva Road for Rs 2.5 crore. The deal was discussed at Shah's office located on 150 Feet Ring Road, where he presented an alleged e-auction document with the seal of JB Shah, indicating that the land was up for auction at Rs 2.5 crore. Shah demanded an advance bank transfer along with Rs 25 lakh as legal fees to initiate the process. Kunjadiya later visited the Ahmedabad office of Raj Radhe Finance Limited, where he met Deval Shah. Deval confirmed that the land was being auctioned and instructed that payments be made as advised by Jignesh Shah. Subsequently, Kunjadiya paid Rs 74.5 lakh through bank transactions and handed over Rs 1.91 crore in cash — totalling Rs 2.65 crore. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like American Investor Warren Buffett Recommends: 5 Books For Turning Your Life Around Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo However, when Kunjadiya later approached Raj Radhe Finance to complete the transaction, Deval Shah denied any association with Jignesh Shah and stated that he was not the company's legal advisor. He further revealed that the land in question was actually being auctioned for Rs 3 crore and that the company had not received any payment. Kunjadiya alleges that he was shown a fake auction form to gain his trust and mislead him. Despite paying the entire amount, no property documents were delivered, pointing to deliberate fraud. Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation into the matter.
