Nintendo Switch 2 fans expecting secret Christmas game at Summer Game Fest 2025
Next week is going to be an exciting time for gamers, since not only is the Nintendo Switch 2 coming out but Summer Game Fest, Geoff Keighley's replacement for the long-dead E3, takes place almost immediately after.
The event kicks off only a day after the Switch 2's launch on Friday, June 6, and will run across the whole weekend, and is set to feature over 60 different publishers and developers.
A lot of the usual names will be in attendance, including Sony and Microsoft, but surprisingly so is Nintendo, making this the first time it's been an official partner since 2022.
Considering Nintendo was a no-show at the previous two Summer Game Fests, its appearance this year naturally sparks theories that it'll have something to announce during the showcase portion on Friday.
Many fans have already been hoping that Nintendo has a secret Switch 2 game planned for this Christmas, especially after the recent confirmation that Pokémon Legends: Z-A – which is coming to both the original Switch and Switch 2 – will launch this October.
The period afterwards is notably lacking any major Nintendo releases, particularly Switch 2 exclusives. Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, another cross-gen title, is meant to launch this year, but while it's likely to be a critical hit the series has never been a big seller.
There are also Switch 2 exclusives Hyrule Warriors: Age Of Imprisonment and Kirby Air Riders, but they seem even lower profile and strange choices to release in the launch year.
While Nintendo is unpredictable, it's still hard to imagine it saving any major reveals for an event like Summer Game Fest, rather than one of its own Nintendo Directs.
It typically has Nintendo Directs every June and it is rumoured one could air next week, after the Switch 2's launch – possibly even as a part of Summer Game Fest.
The most likely explanation though, is that Nintendo is simply attending to promote the Switch 2 and the games it has already announced. As such, it wouldn't be surprising if Nintendo's only contribution to the Summer Game Fest showcase was a new montage and some kind of on stage appearance.
At the time of writing, no new reveals are confirmed or even heavily rumoured for Summer Game Fest, although the list of attendees is promisingly long.
Microsoft will certainly have new announcements at its annual Xbox Games Showcase on Sunday, June 8, which will be followed by an in-depth look at The Outer Worlds 2.
With any luck, Microsoft will have new trailers for games like Perfect Dark, Gears Of War: E-Day, Fable, and maybe even a new Halo.
As for Sony, while PlayStation is listed as one of Summer Game Fest's partners, it's suspected it won't have any big first party reveals for the occasion.
Instead, it's rumoured that Sony will have a smaller scale State of Play later this summer, or possibly not until autumn.
But what about third party companies? Hopefully, Capcom's presence means a Resident Evil 9 reveal is around the corner, even though it doesn't look like the game will be out till 2026 at the earliest.
Square Enix has at least two big games fans hope to see at the show: the long rumoured Final Fantasy 9 remake and Kingdom Hearts 4.
There is some circumstantial evidence for both making an appearance (the former is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year and the latter recently received new screenshots), but that's all there is to go on. The third Final Fantasy 7 Remake game is also a possibility.
A Persona 4 remake from Sega and Atlus could very well show up at either the Summer Game Fest showcase or the Xbox one (Xbox landed a marketing deal for Persona 3 Reload and Metaphor: ReFantazio after all). More Trending
The remake's been rumoured for a while, but just recently one of the original game's voice actors, Yuri Lowenthal, gave its existence away by revealing he won't be coming back for it.
His social media post has been deleted now, but one of his co-stars, Erin Fitzgerald, has since corroborated it by saying she's being replaced too.
Hideo Kojima's guest appearance guarantees new footage for Death Stranding 2: On The Beach, especially since it launches on June 26. He may also have something to show for OD, the new horror game he's working on for Xbox.
At the very least, we can rule out seeing anything for his new stealth game Physint since Kojima admitted it won't be ready for another five or six years.

PETA gives Nintendo free advertising by complaining about the cows in Mario Kart
The cows have been the breakout stars of Mario Kart World since it first appeared, but an animal rights group is upset at how they're depicted. Someone at PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animal) is clearly a Nintendo fan, but we suspect Nintendo would really rather they weren't. The controversial animal rights group has highlighted Nintendo's depiction of animals before, most recently by insisting that you shouldn't fill the museum in Animal Crossing with insects and fish. The group has often highlighted popular media to try and make its points, such as complaining that horror movie remake Nosferatu defames rats and, a little more reasonably, protesting the depiction of whaling in Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag (which is rumoured to be getting a remake soon). Now, the group has turned its attention to Mario Kart World, where the inclusion of a cow as a playable character has been met with great enthusiasm by fans. However, PETA is upset because it seems to be sporting a nose ring. 'Nose rings are used by the meat and dairy industries to exploit, control, and even drag animals to their deaths. These brass rings are crudely stabbed through the sensitive septum of cows and bulls, which can cause lasting pain and discomfort,' wrote PETA in an open letter to Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa. 'The brass ring in Cow's nose glosses over real world violence and cruelty to animals. That's why we're asking you to give this beloved bovine a small but meaningful upgrade: remove the nose ring and let Cow race freely – without any painful reminders of the industries that treat animals like profit-making machines.' PETA's tweet on the matter claims it's not a style choice, but that's not necessarily true. Since she knows how to operate a kart, Cow is presumably sapient, so it may simply be a cosmetic nose ring. Liberate Cow — PETA (@peta) August 14, 2025 As well as the usual Mushroom Kingdom crew, Mario Kart World on the Nintendo Switch 2 includes a number of generic enemies and side-characters, from a Goomba and Wiggler to a Snowman and Dolphin. More Trending These are unlocked essentially at random, by using the Kameck power-up during a race. It's not too hard to get them all but Cow has been one of the favourites right from the start, in part because she's so unexpected but also because she's cute and a homage to fan favourite course Moo Moo Meadows. There has been long-running speculation that more characters will be added to the game over time, but despite fans getting very suspicious at the fact that Donkey Kong and Pauline only have two costumes – whereas other much more minor characters have more – Nintendo has never confirmed anything. Given Donkey Kong Bananza has been out for a while now it's not clear when or where they might make an annoucement. So for now Cow's position as fan favourite is undisputed. Call Of Duty: Black Ops 7 release date leaks but no Switch 2 version at launch
Details have leaked around the launch of Call Of Duty: Black Ops 7, including a release date, price, and the absence of a Switch 2 edition. Following its reveal trailer earlier this year, Call Of Duty: Black Ops 7 is set for a full blowout at Gamescom Opening Night Live next Tuesday. However, as is customary for Call Of Duty, a bunch of details around the game's launch have leaked ahead of time. According to reliable leaker billbil-kun, Call Of Duty: Black Ops 7 will launch worldwide on November 14, 2025 across PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. This date was originally mentioned by Call Of Duty insider GhostOfHope, so is almost certainly accurate. You might have noticed one platform is missing from that line-up: the Nintendo Switch 2. Microsoft has repeatedly promised Call Of Duty is coming to Nintendo's console, after it signed a 10-year deal to do so as part of its Activision Blizzard acquisition, but the company still hasn't made any official announcement of when to expect it – or indeed any other Switch 2 games. According to billbil-kun (via Dealabs), Black Ops 7 will not be available on the Nintendo Switch 2 at launch. However, they note it is 'unclear' whether Activision is planning to bring a port to the console at a later date. Considering Black Ops 7 is coming to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, a Switch 2 version should be relatively easy – but there's a chance Activision, like many other publishers, weren't given a Switch 2 devkit ahead of the system's launch. Sign up to the GameCentral newsletter for a unique take on the week in gaming, alongside the latest reviews and more. Delivered to your inbox every Saturday morning. The same report has other details on Black Ops 7's launch. Unlike other Microsoft-published games like The Outer Worlds 2, the upcoming shooter will have a physical release with the disc included across all platforms, at the usual price of £69.99. According to the leaker, pre-orders for Black Ops 7 will go live on Wednesday, August 20, after the game's reveal at Gamescom the night prior. This isn't the only leak around Black Ops 7 over the past week, as details have emerged around the game's campaign mode. However, they relate to the campaign's last mission, so if you don't want to be potentially spoiled, turn away now. *** Warning: spoilers for the ending of Call Of Duty: Black Ops 7 *** According to Insider Gaming, the final campaign mission in Black Ops 7 will integrate with the multiplayer mode for the first time ever. It's claimed the long-rumoured 'Avalon' map, which was originally planned for Warzone, will now be used as part of the campaign. It's said that select parts of this Avalon map will be used throughout the campaign, but the final mission will give players access to the full map in a '32-player multiplayer experience'. More Trending According to the site, who cite information from anonymous sources, the final mission 'sounds awfully like an extraction-based shooter'. It mentions that players will need to 'complete objectives and extract', and if you're entire squad is killed, 'you will lose all your character's progress'. This move is apparently driven by the desire to integrate progression across all modes (campaign, multiplayer, and Zombies), so even when you're playing the campaign, you'll be able to level up weapons, characters, and progress in the Battle Pass. If true, this is probably to encourage more multiplayer-centric players to engage with the campaign, which will support four-player co-op in Black Ops 7. Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 was previously criticised for incorporating Warzone's Verdansk map into the campaign, but it sounds like this will be a somewhat different approach (and with a new map), although we'll have to see when the game launches. Argos shoppers rushing to buy £2 Nintendo Switch games in massive deal Argos has a huge sale on right now offering two Nintendo Switch games for only £2 Nintendo fans can get games for only £2 (Image: GWMB via Getty Images) With the price of new video games inching towards the £80 mark, gaming is fast becoming a costly pastime. That's why it's crucial for gamers to seize a good deal when they spot one, and currently, Argos has an impressive sale on. Argos is offering two Nintendo Switch games for £20 each on a select number of titles. This is already a tempting offer, but we can actually reduce that price even further to £4.75 for two games when using an offer from TopCashback - or £2.39 each. Shoppers who register with TopCashback using our unique link will receive an additional £15 cashback on selected purchases over £20. The two-game bundle at Argos qualifies for this deal, allowing gamers to bag a game for just £2.37 each. Only a few titles are included in the two for £20 bundle, so our colleagues over at the Manchester Evening News compiled the best ones to consider. But those who don't want to use TopCashback, there are a few other places to get cut-rate games right now. Amazon has a range of Switch titles, including cut-price Lord of the Rings game Tales of the Shire for £29.99 (down from £34.99). Or there's the Nintendo e-Store sale, which has cut prices on a range of titles that you can download directly onto the Switch. Otherwise, here's the roundup from Argos: Cars 3 Cars 3 (Image: Argos) Disney movie fans and racing game enthusiasts alike will adore this video game adaptation of Cars 3, which allows players to take control of Lightning McQueen himself. They'll participate in races while honing the skills needed to defeat rival Racer Jackson. Gamers can engage in six different game modes, all involving high-speed driving. There are plenty of opportunities for airtime, with the cars able to perform a variety of tricks, stunts and barrel rolls for extra points. While this title may be a bit too casual for the more serious racing game enthusiasts, it's perfect for children aged seven and above looking for some affordable fun this summer. Rayman Legends Definitive Edition Rayman Legends Definitive Edition (Image: Argos) Rayman is a legendary figure in the world of 2D platforming, and Rayman Legends is one of his finest adventures. This Definitive Edition brings together the highly-praised Wii U game into a fresh package for the Nintendo Switch, fully integrating the rumble pads in each controller. The game also supports local multiplayer, allowing a mate to use the secondary Switch controller to join in the fun with up to four players. Those who prefer touchscreen controls can play the game entirely using just the Switch's touchscreen. Assassin's Creed: The Ezio Trilogy Assassin's Creed: The Ezio Trilogy (Image: Argos) There's no shortage of Assassin's Creed games, but the ones featuring Ezio as the main character are still considered some of the best in the series. Transporting the player back to Venice, Rome and even Constantinople during the Italian Renaissance period, the games allow you to parkour across the rooftops of ancient monuments for a bit of digital sightseeing while enjoying the superb storyline. This title offers particularly good value as gamers essentially get three games in one with Assassin's Creed 2, Assassin's Creed Brotherhood and Assassin's Creed Revelations. The Smurfs Mission Vileaf The Smurfs Mission Vileaf (Image: Argos) Aimed at a younger audience, The Smurfs Vilef is a 3D platformer game where players can control one of four classic Smurfs: Smurfette, Hefty, Brainy, and Chef. They'll need to navigate platforms and solve puzzles to defeat the evil wizard Gargamel and his latest toxic plant scheme. The game's description suggests it's easy for newcomers to pick up, making it an ideal choice for younger gamers still getting used to 3D character controls. It's suitable for ages three and above. Mario + Rabbids Sparks Of Hope Mario + Rabbids Sparks Of Hope (Image: Argos) Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope offers a unique twist on the typical Mario game, with Nintendo's iconic character teaming up with Ubisoft's Rabbids for a quirky adventure. The gameplay borrows from strategy games, requiring players to control a selection of characters as they strategically navigate a battlefield to defeat opponents. This slower-paced, more deliberate approach to a Mario game offers a fun alternative. If you're after something a bit different for your Nintendo Switch, this could be a great bet. Overcooked! 2 Overcooked! 2 (Image: Argos) For those who enjoy co-op gaming with friends or family, Overcooked! 2 is a top choice - just be prepared for potential disagreements. In this fast-paced game, each player controls a chef with the aim of cooking and serving as many food orders as possible within a set time limit. As the game progresses, each level becomes increasingly challenging. Chefs will only have access to specific ingredients as levels start to shift, leading to a frantic ballet where players must synchronise their actions to pass ingredients and utilise various appliances, all while managing a relentless conveyor belt of new orders. It's as entertaining as it is nerve-wracking, making it a perfect buy for couples. Tempted?
