Yadav said that a single 'correct and bold step" by the poll panel could secure the future and welfare of countless generations in the country.
'The Election Commission needs not just reforms but a complete transformation. Today, the historic duty of protecting democracy rests on its shoulders. We understand that it faces various unwarranted pressures, but it must not think it stands alone," Yadav said in a statement.
When one walks the path of truth, people and their faith walk along, the Samajwadi Party leader said.
'When the Election Commission chooses the right course, crores of Indians will stand behind it as its shield. When one walks the path of truth, people and their faith walk along. Pentagon Signals Limited US Role In Ukraine Security As Europe Expected To Take Lead

Last Updated: Zelenskyy announced during a press briefing that Ukraine would purchase additional US-made arms. The Pentagon has once again reiterated its intention to play only a minimal role in providing security guarantees for Europe, according to a report by Politico citing a top defence officials. With the Trump administration signalling a reduced American contribution, the burden of long-term Ukrainian security guarantees is increasingly falling on Europe's shoulders. Elbridge Colby, the US Undersecretary of Defense for Policy, clarified Washington's stance during discussions concerning Ukraine's future security framework. He was responding to pointed questions from senior European military leaders during a closed-door meeting led by Joint Chiefs Chair General Dan Caine. Sources familiar with the recent talks between defence chiefs from key European nations revealed that the US was directly asked whether it would commit troops and air support to help enforce a peace agreement between Ukraine and Russia. Colby's response marked one of the clearest signals yet that Washington expects Europe to take the lead in any post-war security architecture for Kyiv. 'There's the dawning reality that this will be Europe making this happen on the ground," said a NATO diplomat who was briefed on the discussions. 'The US is not fully committed to anything." Initially, Trump declared on Monday that he was prepared to send US troops to Ukraine. However, by Tuesday, he had walked back that commitment, stating instead that he might consider offering air support for European forces. 'I don't know where that leaves us," one European official said. 'Pretty much back to where we were in the spring with the coalition of the willing." NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, who participated in the White House meeting, briefed all 32 alliance members in Brussels on Wednesday. According to NATO officials, Rutte also initiated preliminary discussions on the broader framework for security guarantees, with alliance members now working to develop actionable plans for their political leaders. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. At least three more Amrit Bharat trains are set to be inaugurated in the state in the coming weeks, along with a new Vande Bharat between Purnia and Patna, News18 has learnt. A ministry official told News18 that while the Gaya-Delhi train will be inaugurated on Friday, dates for the remaining trains are not finalised yet but are 'expected soon". 'The Amrit Bharat trains will also connect Saharsa-Amritsar, Chhapra-Delhi, and Muzaffarpur-Hyderabad. One Vande Bharat between Purnia and Patna is also expected soon," the official said, seeking anonymity. The commercial operation of this train will start on August 28 from Gaya. The train, 13697, will operate on every Sunday and Thursday. It will start from Gaya at 4.30 pm and will reach Delhi the next day at noon. The return journey from Delhi, 13698, will be done on Mondays and Fridays. The train will start at 2 pm and will reach Gaya at 8.55 am the next day. Bihar, going for elections later this year, has been getting a connectivity and infrastructure push over the last couple of months. In August, the Sitamarhi-Delhi Amrit Bharat was launched. Last month, four Amrit Bharat trains were launched for the state. Before that, in April, another Amrit Bharat was inaugurated between Saharsa and Mumbai. Of the eight Amrit Bharat routes currently operational, only Malda-Bengaluru does not touch Bihar. The state is served by seven of these trains, with six originating from Bihar: Darbhanga-Delhi, Mumbai-Saharsa, Patna-Delhi, Bapudham Motihari-Delhi, Sitamarhi-Delhi, and Darbhanga-Lucknow. The Amrit Bharat between Malda Town and Lucknow serves Bhagalpur. Called the affordable cousin of Vande Bharat, the Amrit Bharat train offers only sleeper and general class coaches for an affordable long-distance journey. Each train has eight sleeper coaches, 11 general coaches, and two luggage-cum-brake vans, along with one pantry car. Vande Bharat on the way The official also said that the new Purnia-Patna Vande Bharat will boost the passenger experience on the route, currently served with a limited number of trains. Earlier this month, three Vande Bharat trains were inaugurated, and none of these were for Bihar. Bihar is served by 13 Vande Bharat trains as of date, with eight of these connecting the capital city, Patna, with Ranchi, Howrah, New Jalpaiguri, Lucknow, and Gorakhpur. Three trains run between Patna and Tatanagar. Vande Bharat also serves other parts of Bihar, including Ranchi-Varanasi, Deoghar-Varanasi, Howrah-New Jalpaiguri, Howrah-Gaya, and Howrah-Bhagalpur. With these new Amrit Bharat and Vande Bharat trains, Bihar's rail connectivity is set for a significant boost with improved passenger convenience, travel efficiency, and affordable long-distance options for residents. tags : bihar railway view comments Location : New Delhi, India, India First Published: August 21, 2025, 07:00 IST News india Poll-Bound Bihar To Get Another Amrit Bharat Train This Week; Purnia-Patna Vande Bharat En Route Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. US Federal Judge Blocks Texas Law Requiring Display Of Ten Commandments In Schools

Last Updated: The ruling comes as a victory for a coalition of families and civil liberties groups who argued that the law violates the constitutional separation of church and state A United States federal judge has issued a temporary block on a new Texas law that would mandate the display of the Ten Commandments in every public school classroom. The ruling comes as a victory for a coalition of families and civil liberties groups who argued that the law violates the constitutional separation of church and state. US District Judge Fred Biery, in a detailed 55-page ruling, granted a preliminary injunction against the law, which was set to take effect on September 1. The lawsuit was filed by families of diverse religious and nonreligious backgrounds, including Christian, Jewish, Hindu, and Unitarian Universalist parents, who claimed that the law infringed upon the First Amendment's protections for religious freedom. Victory for religious freedom in Texas. A federal judge halted the law forcing the Ten Commandments into every public school classroom—a bill we and our TX constituents fought hard against. No child should feel pressured to adopt a state-favored religion. — Hindu American Foundation (@HinduAmerican) August 20, 2025 Judge Biery's decision highlighted that while the Ten Commandments might not be actively taught, their permanent display in a 'captive audience" setting like a classroom would likely pressure students into religious observance and raise questions that teachers would feel compelled to answer. He wrote that such a mandate would 'impermissibly take sides on theological questions and officially favor Christian denominations over others". The ruling also noted that the specific version of the commandments required by the law differs from those of some other faiths, creating an exclusionary message. The ruling has been hailed as a major win by groups like the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), Americans United for the Separation of Church and State, and the Hindu American Foundation. They argue that public schools are for 'educating, not evangelising". Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, who has defended the law, called the ruling 'flawed" and has announced plans to appeal. The case is part of a broader legal battle in the US, with similar laws in Louisiana and Arkansas also having been blocked by courts. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
