Major Food Group Teams Up With NY Mets Owner's Huge Queens Development Hotel

Eater26-06-2025
A red-hot NYC restaurant group will run the hotel and casino restaurants and bars in billionaire New York Mets owner Steve Cohen's forthcoming mixed-use development surrounding baseball stadium Citi Field in Flushing Meadows-Corona Park, Queens. Major Food Group will oversee the restaurants and bars inside the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino Metropolitan Park, the group's next location inside the sprawling project that has yet to break ground, with a projected opening year of 2030.
Outside of Hard Rock's hotel and casino, Metropolitan Park will also include a 30,000-square-foot food hall, Taste of Queens, which will have 20 or so restaurants and food vendors from the borough. It's a similar concept to the Queens Night Market, which operates a stone's throw away.
Major Food Group's restaurant and bar lineup isn't finalized; the company also isn't going to run every single dining and drink space in the property. It's fair to expect a mix of fine-dining and casual. A rep for the development writes to Eater that the hospitality business's goal is to 'curate food experiences that celebrate Queens as one of the most vibrant and diverse culinary capitals on the planet,' and also notes that chef and co-owner Mario Carbone is from Queens himself.
This Queens team-up isn't the first time Major Food Group has partnered with Hard Rock. The New York-founded restaurant group previously partnered with Hard Rock Hotel in Times Square in 2022, splitting its loyalty in a Yankees-themed steakhouse. The two companies made the partnership official in 2024, turning Major Food Group into Hard Rock's culinary consultant.
Overall, the Metropolitan Park would transform the parking lots around the stadium into a 50-acre mixed-use development, featuring parks and sports fields. The Hard Rock will also include event spaces and a live music venue.
Cohen's lofty dream of developing the area surrounding his baseball stadium into an $8 billion multifaceted destination isn't without its controversies, with concerns about its impact on current residents and the environment. The casino would be the first of its kind in downstate New York, but some don't agree that it should happen at all.
Nevertheless, several Queens community boards bordering the property voted their approval of the park proposal in November 2024. But there are more hurdles to come, including recommendations from the New York Gaming Facility Location Board and the license decision by the New York State Gaming Commission by the end of 2025. Once all of that is approved, construction will begin. See More: Coming Attractions

Booking.com Launches Credit Card That Makes It Easier to Earn and Use Rewards for Travel

Survey reveals Americans would give up alcohol, celebrating their birthday, and even sex for better travel rewards, with the Genius Rewards Visa Signature® Credit Card, powered by Imprint, making travel easier, no sacrifices required NEW YORK, Aug. 14, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- With a mission to make it easier for everyone to experience the world, announces the launch of the Genius Rewards Visa Signature® Credit Card, powered by Imprint, a leading platform for modern co-brand credit cards. Designed to make it easier to earn and use rewards for travel and more than just a credit card, the Genius Rewards Visa Signature® Credit Card is a travel companion that transforms everyday purchases into unforgettable getaways – all with no annual fee2 and premium perks. Travel rewards made easy In today's world, credit card rewards have become a highly valued currency, with the large majority (82%) of American cardholders saying they check their credit card rewards more than their 401(k) or retirement accounts.1 Yet despite that interest, only 28% of Americans feel confident that they're making the most of them.1 is closing that gap with a straightforward solution. Instead of complicated points systems or hard-to-track miles that are often devalued and tied to a single airline or hotel chain, Genius Rewards Visa Signature® Credit Card cardholders earn Travel Credits – easy to access and easy to spend. One dollar in Travel Credits is worth one dollar on and they are easily redeemed across the platform for everything from accommodations and attractions to rental cars and flights – all in one place, with no minimums to redeem or blackout dates. The desire to travel is strong, and deeply personal According to new research from more than half (54%) of American travelers who own a credit card would give up alcohol for a year if it meant they could travel for free.1 Nearly half (45%) said they'd even give up sex or dating for a year for the same reward.1 And in a sign of just how far people will go for meaningful perks, a staggering 97% of traveling credit card holders said they'd delete at least one social media account if it meant scoring free accommodations for a year. That level of passion underscores why real, flexible travel rewards matter and what sets this card apart. "In a world where 81% of cardholders expect brands to enhance their travel experiences, we saw an opportunity to raise the bar," said Ben Harrell, Managing Director, U.S. at "Today's travelers want flexibility and transparency in how they earn and redeem rewards, and they want it all in one place. This card is about making it easier to access and utilize incredible travel benefits, without having to pay hundreds of dollars a year to do so like other cards, and reflects our broader commitment to removing friction from travel and unlocking more possibilities for American cardholders to be rewarded for their loyalty." West Virginia athletic department agrees to partnership with local mulch company

On the same day Kansas received a record-breaking $300 million donation, one of the Jayhawks' Big 12 counterparts secured a deal of its own. West Virginia has agreed to a multi-year partnership with Grant County Mulch that makes the company the official mulch supplier of the Mountaineers' athletic department, the university announced August 13. Based in Petersburg, West Virginia, about 90 miles southeast of West Virginia's Morgantown campus, Grant County Mulch is the largest bulk mulch supplier in the country, according to the Mountaineers' release. As part of the newly inked and undeniably unique agreement — after all, how many colleges have an official mulch supplier? — Grant County Mulch will be racing a West Virginia-themed truck in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series at the Richmond Raceway in Virginia on August 15. The truck is owned by CR7 Motorsports and will be driven by Grant Enfinger. Beyond the company's logo being displayed on LED boards at football and basketball games, as well as on the outfield wall at baseball games, the Mountaineers' post-game radio show for football and men's basketball will award a 'Tough as Mulch' player of the game. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. "Both of us — and our parents — were born and raised in West Virginia, so this partnership means more than business to us," Larry and Janie Berg, founders of Grant County Mulch, said in a statement. "It's about honoring our roots, supporting our home state, and being part of something that represents the pride and spirit of West Virginians everywhere."
