Iowa baseball shutout by Indiana to close Big Ten Tournament Pool Play
After a 4-3 victory over No. 10-seed Rutgers on Wednesday, No. 2-seed Iowa baseball (33-21-1, 21-9 Big Ten) dropped a 5-0 loss vs. No. 6-seed Indiana (32-25, 16-14) to close out its two-game pool play action in the 2025 Big Ten Tournament from Charles Schwab Field in Omaha, Neb.
With the Hawkeyes' Wednesday victory clinching them a spot in Saturday's semifinal, Thursday night's game was essentially meaningless regarding the Big Ten Tournament.
With that being said, Iowa sent Benjamin DeTaeye to start on the mound, where he gave up three runs on one hit, walked three, and struck out four over 2 1/3 innings of work.
"DeTaeye gave us a good start," said head coach Rick Heller. "He was really good the first two innings, and his pitch count was down, so we decided to go a third inning. He strikes out the first guy, then he walks two to get to Taylor, and on the first pitch, he hits a home run, and we are down three runs on one hit."
Five other Hawkeye pitchers made appearances on the mound. The pitching staff combined for nine strikeouts while allowing seven hits and 12 free bases.
Due to Thursday's game being void of any significance, the Hawkeyes were able to use it as a "bullpen game" and rest their starters ahead of the semifinal.
"For the most part, the rest of the guys did a pretty decent job," said Heller. "We worked out of a couple jams."
In terms of the offense, Iowa's biggest threat to score came in the first inning, but the Hawkeyes left the bases loaded. Iowa would total five hits throughout the game and batted .152 overall, stranding nine base runners.
"Offensively, we knew it was going to be a challenging night with Gilley and Grable both able to throw," said Heller. "Gilley gave us a chance in the first to jump out on top with the bases loaded. We had an opportunity with a runner on third and less than two outs, and we didn't get him home. We hit a lot of fly balls, which is pretty uncharacteristic for this team, and it led to a lot of 1-2-3 innings."
The Hoosiers took the lead in the third inning with a three-run shot to right field and added two more in the fourth to make it 5-0.
Iowa had its first extra-base hit of the tournament when Gable Mitchell doubled in the eighth inning. Caleb Wulf was the lone Hawkeye to have a multi-hit game, with two of Iowa's five total hits on the night.
The Hawkeyes' next game will be the Big Ten Tournament Semifinals on Saturday, when they will play the No. 2-seed and No. 13-ranked UCLA (43-15, 22-8) from Charles Schwab Field.
The game will be on the Big Ten Network and start at approximately 6 p.m. CT. In addition to the telecast, fans can listen to the action through the Hawkeyes Radio Network alongside play-by-play voice John Leo and color analyst John Evans.

Oklahoma OF Maya Bland enters the transfer portal

Oklahoma OF Maya Bland enters the transfer portal Two days into the offseason, the Oklahoma Sooners have lost two players to the transfer portal, with more likely to come. On Tuesday, true freshman catcher Corri Hicks announced via social media that she's entering the portal. On Wednesday, it's Maya Bland looking for a new home. Bland stated via Instagram, "Thank you Sooner Nation for the love and support you've shown me these past two years. I greatly appreciate it. God's got a new path for me but I will cherish my time as a Sooner." The sophomore appeared primarily as a pinch runner for the Sooners in her two years in Norman, but she did have some big moments at the plate in 2025. She hit a two-run home run in Oklahoma's 5-1 win over Alabama back in April. Against Oklahoma State, Bland hit a game-winning three-run home to secure the run-rule win over the Sooners' Bedlam rivals. During her career with Oklahoma, Bland hit .277 with two doubles, three home runs, and 14 RBIs. She had 11 stolen bases, including eight as a true freshman in 2024. The Oklahoma Sooners are set to return the key pieces to their outfield in 2025. Kasidi Pickering, Abigale Dayton, Hannah Coor, Tia Milloy, and Chaney Helton will be back. Oklahoma's also bringing in the No. 1 player in the 2025 recruiting class, outfielder Kai Minor. Oregon Football's Kenyon Sadiq pegged as breakout NFL draft riser for 2025

Oregon Football's Kenyon Sadiq pegged as breakout NFL draft riser for 2025 In 2025, all signs point towards Kenyon Sadiq becoming a household name for the Oregon Ducks. With his talent, Sadiq would have been most anyone else's starting tight end for the past two seasons, but he had to play a backup role to Terrance Ferguson. Now it's his time to shine. Sadiq is one of the more experienced receivers on the Duck roster this coming season, and he's expected to have a breakout season in 2025. As a result, with his size, NFL scouts should have a field day rating him. Sadiq will be a hot commodity when the NFL draft rolls around. According to USA TODAY writer Michael Middlehurst-Schwartz, Sadiq could go high in the 2026 NFL selection process. "With second-round tight end Terrence Ferguson and top receivers Tez Johnson and Traeshon Holden off to the NFL, the Ducks are set for a reconfiguration in their receiving corps," he said. "Big things are expected of Evan Stewart as the former five-star recruit enters his second season in Eugene after transferring from Texas A&M, but Sadiq might be the true wild card for the offense. "At 6-3 and 245 pounds, he's a more formidable run blocker than his size might suggest. His true value, however, lies in his ability to create mismatches as a supersized receiver with impressive long speed. Sadiq will have to show he can handle being a featured part of the Ducks' offense and develop into something more than a seam threat, but he's one of the most intriguing draft-eligible tight ends to keep an eye on." The Oregon offense isn't expected to change a whole lot with quarterback Dante Moore under center, but just because of Sadiq's pure talent, the Ducks might go to him more, especially in the red zone and goal-line situations. He showed what he can do in those situations in the Big Ten title game, as he scored two touchdowns in the win over Penn State. Oregon fans have said, "More of that, please," and the Ducks are about to oblige. According to CBS Sports insider Jon Rothstein, the Florida Gators will host the Seminoles on Tuesday, Nov. 11 in Gainesville, continuing one of the most anticipated non-conference showdowns on the college basketball calendar. This early-season clash comes with major intrigue for both programs. The Gators are fresh off a national championship and returns a reloaded roster featuring Alex Condon, Thomas Haugh, Xaivian Lee and Boogie Fland. Head coach Todd Golden will look to extend Florida's recent dominance in the rivalry, having won four straight over the Seminoles.
