Prime Minister Narendra Modi is planning to attend the BRICS summit in Brazil from July 6 to 7, as his government seeks to push the global anti-terror agenda as well as India's vision for the Global South.Brazil has also invited the PM for a state visit coinciding with the summit. If the PM attends the summit, it may give him an opportunity to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping and leaders from Indonesia, Iran, the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Egypt, countries that are members of BRICS, among others.Global issues that are expected to figure at the summit include reforms of the multilateral institutions, such as the UN Security Council, ET has learnt. As the current chair of BRICS, Brazil will focus on strengthening Global South cooperation and promoting more inclusive and sustainable governance. The summit will also address key priorities such as global health cooperation, trade and investment, climate change, AI governance and multilateral peace and security.Ahead of the summit, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla is leading an Indian parliamentary delegation at the BRICS Parliamentary Forum in Brasilia between June 3 and 5.The next month may also see the PM travelling to India's southern neighbour Maldives following an invite from President Mohamed Muizzu, who has sought to improve ties with New Delhi in backdrop of Male's precarious economic situation.During his visit here last month, Maldivian foreign minister Abdulla Khaleel strongly condemned the terrorist attack in Pahalgam and expressed Male's solidarity with the people and the government of India, while offering its firm support to New Delhi in the fight against terrorism. It was Khaleel's third visit to India this year.Khaleel shared his views during a meeting with external affairs minister S Jaishankar. He also led Maldives at the 2nd India-Maldives High Level Core Group (HLCG) meeting to oversee progress in the implementation of the India-Maldives Vision Document on Comprehensive Economic and Maritime Security Partnership.During that meeting, discussions focused on implementation of the joint vision by intensifying political exchanges, defence and security cooperation, development partnership, trade, economy, health and people-to-people linkages, officials said.Khaleel also thanked the Indian government for providing timely emergency financial assistance to Male.

MIV 2030 outlines 150 initiatives aimed at propelling India to global maritime 10 interconnected themes such as port infrastructure development, enhancing logistics efficiency, improving Indian shipbuilding tonnage, increasing coastal and waterway traffic, fostering technology innovation and policy support, promoting sustainability and global collaboration, address every facet of the maritime ecosystem, ensuring a well-rounded approach to transforming India into a leading maritime status of MIV 2030 gets reflected through the progress made by the Indian Maritime sector over the past 3 years as outlined below:Major Port Capacity increased from 1598 MMTPA in Financial Year 2022 to 1630 MMTPA in Financial Year Vessel Turn Around Time (TAT) reduced from 53 hours in Financial Year 2022 to 48 hours in Financial Year Berth Day Output increased from 16,000 MT in Financial Year 2022 to 18,900 MT in Financial Year the past three years, there has been a 37% increase in the Capital Expenditure to Rs 7,571 crore in Financial Year 2024 (from Rs. 5527 crore in Financial Year 2022) by Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways including a 54 per cent increase in Gross Budget Support (GBS) to Rs 1,687 crore in Financial Year 2024 (from Rs 1,099 crore in Financial Year 2022) which is primarily towards the achievements of goals and targets outlined under MIV the past 3 years, around 75 port development projects have been awarded in Major Ports which includes projects for enhancement of cargo handling capacity and operational efficiency.

At Indore event, MP minister Kailash Vijayvargiya stirs row — ‘Don't like women wearing skimpy clothes'
Madhya Pradesh Cabinet Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya has stirred up the hornet's nest yet again. At a recent public event held in Indore, Vijayvargiya said he didn't 'like girls who wear skimpy clothes'. In a speech he made at the event, Vijayvargiya, a senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Madhya Pradesh's minister for urban development and parliamentary affairs, drew comparisons between Indian and Western culture, saying: 'Here in India, we consider a girl beautiful when she dresses well, wears jewellery, and adorns herself gracefully. In the West, a woman wearing fewer clothes is considered beautiful. I don't agree with that'. Continuing his comparison, he said: 'There's a saying in Western countries that a woman who wears fewer clothes is considered very beautiful, just as a leader who speaks less is considered good. But I don't believe in that. I believe a woman is a form of the goddess. She should wear nice clothes. I don't find women in revealing clothes attractive'. While attending a Hanuman Jayanti event in Indore in 2023, he remarked: 'I won't lie on Hanuman Jayanti… but girls these days wear such filthy clothes… We call women goddesses, but they don't appear that way… They look like Shurpanakha (a demoness from Hindu mythology). God has given you a beautiful body, at least wear decent clothes. Teach your children values'.

Piyush Goyal calls Italian business enclaves in India to boost investment
Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Thursday proposed to develop an industrial conclave for Italian businesses in India to promote investments. Speaking here at India-Italy Business Forum meeting, he said Italian companies can consider setting up manufacturing units and offices in those enclaves. "I have a proposition for you. We can set up Italian enclaves where Italian businesses can set up shops... we can set up hotels, restaurants, healthcare for Italian people who would come to work there. It will be home away from home for them," Goyal said. These industrial parks can be set up in the proposed industrail corridors in different parts of the country. The minister is here on a two-day visit. He is meeting leaders and businesses to boost trade and investments between the two countries. India would invite Italian companies to certain locations in India such as Dighi near Mumbai and Sambhaji Nagar (Aurangabad) in Maharashtra to showcase potential locations for these enclaves. The government has announced to invest about Rs 28,000 crore to set up 12 industrial nodes, and build 100 industrial parks in the country. These industrial areas will be located at Khurpia in Uttarakhand, Rajpura-Patiala in Punjab, Dighi in Maharashtra, Palakkad in Kerala, Agra and Prayagraj in UP, Gaya in Bihar, Zaheerabad in Telangana, Orvakal and Kopparthy in Andhra Pradesh, and Jodhpur-Pali in Rajasthan.
