Claims were made on social media that Turkish Technic was involved in the maintenance of the Air India Boeing 787 Dreamliner which crashed in Ahmedabad this week.
The Turkish government has denied the involvement of Turkish Technic – the maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) arm of Turkish Airlines – in the maintenance of the Air India Boeing 787 Dreamliner that crashed in Ahmedabad on Thursday.
The communication wing of the government has said that the claim that Turkish Technic maintained the AI-171 aircraft that crashed shortly after takeoff, resulting in the deaths of 241 people on board, 'is false" and 'constitutes disinformation aimed at manipulating public opinion" on India-Turkey relations.
Turkey On AI-171 Maintenance Claims
The clarification came a day after the crash, following claims by some social media handles that Turkey was involved in the maintenance of the crashed aircraft. The handles also cited the Air India–Turkish Technic deal signed in February 2025 to claim that the Boeing 787-8 aircraft was a part of the agreement for maintenance.
However, the Turkish government has refuted the claims and said that the deal was 'exclusively for B777-type wide-body aircraft".
'The claim that 'the maintenance of the Boeing 787-8 passenger aircraft was carried out by Turkish Technic' following the crash of an Air India passenger aircraft during take-off is false. The claim that the crashed aircraft was maintained by Turkish Technic constitutes disinformation aimed at manipulating public opinion regarding Türkiye-India relations," the Turkish government said on June 13 on X.
'Under the agreements made between Air India and Turkish Technic in 2024 and 2025, maintenance services are provided exclusively for B777-type wide-body aircraft. The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner involved in the accident does not fall within the scope of this agreement. To date, Turkish Technic has not conducted maintenance on any Air India aircraft of this type," it added.
What Was Air India-Turkish Technic Deal 2025?
However, as per a Times of India report on June 1, Turkish Technic currently conducts heavy maintenance for a portion of Air India's Boeing 777 and 787 fleet.
Air India CEO Campbell Wilson earlier announced the airline's plans to reduce its reliance on Turkish Technic for the maintenance of its wide-body aircraft and MRO facilities.
As per Hürriyet Daily News, the Air India-Turkish Technic deal 2025 would provide extensive component services such as component pooling, repair, overhaul, modification and logistics services for Air India's 190 Boeing 737-8 and 737-10 aircraft.
'We are happy to further strengthen our partnership with Air India Express through a new agreement. The continuation of our cooperation is a testament to our reliability in component support, supply, and solution services," the newspaper quoted Mikail Akbulut, the CEO of Turkish Technic, as saying earlier.

PM Modi in Cyprus: 3 reasons why the nation matters for India, what is the Turkey angle

Prime Minister Narendra Modi landed in Cyprus on Sunday (June 15) for the first leg of his three-nation tour, which will also see him visit Canada for the G7 summit and then Croatia. This is the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Cyprus in over 20 years, and is being seen by many as a strategic signal to Turkey, which has steadily deepened its ties with Pakistan. During his visit, PM Modi will hold talks with President Nikos Christodoulides in capital Nicosia, and address business leaders at Limassol. Why is Cyprus important to India, and what is the Turkey angle in this? We explain. Cyprus is an island in the eastern Mediterranean Sea, located close to Turkey and Syria. It is a member of the European Union (EU) despite being geographically in Asia. The island nation got independence from the British in 1960. Its two major communities, Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots, participated in an uneasy power sharing, which flared up into violence just three years later and the United Nations Peacekeeping Force had to be called in. In 1974, the Greek Cypriots staged a coup with the help of the Greek Junta, to merge the island with Greece. Turkey then invaded, and while the legitimate government in Nicosia was restored, Turkish forces have never fully left the island. In fact, the north-eastern part of the island has declared itself independent as the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, which only Turkey recognises. India's ties with the two countries A Ministry of External Affairs release on India-Cyprus ties says the country 'remains one of Indiaʼs dependable friends.' 'It supports Indiaʼs candidature as a permanent member of the expanded UN Security Council. It has also extended its full support for the India-US Civil Nuclear Agreement, within the Nuclear Supplier Group (NSG) and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), which helps India address its increasing energy needs and benefit its economic development,' the MEA document says. Turkey, on the other hand, has not just supported Pakistan in terms of international resolutions and statements on Kashmir, during the recent conflict after Operation Sindoor, many of the drones Pakistan attacked India with were found to have been of Turkish origin. This has crossed a line for India. PM Modi, before leaving for his trip, said in a press release, 'This three-nation tour is also an opportunity to thank partner countries for their steadfast support to India in our fight against cross-border terrorism, and to galvanise global understanding on tackling terrorism in all its forms and manifestations.' IMEC, EU factors The Turkey angle aside, Cyprus is valuable to India in many other ways. As stated, it has proved to be a 'dependable friend'. Secondly, its geographic location makes it a crucial part of the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC), an infrastructure project that India expects multiple benefits from. IMEC is supposed to boost trade and connectivity between India and Europe via the Middle East, and Cyprus, in the Mediterranean, has an important role to play. Also, Cyprus is set to hold the Presidency of the Council of the EU in the first half of 2026, and as India looks to build stronger trade and security ties with Europe, Nicosia could be a crucial ally.

Credit over caution: Household savings in India fall to 18.1% of GDP; more Indians rely on credit to fund expenses

India's household savings have slipped to a new low for the third consecutive year, falling to 18.1% of GDP in FY24, according to a report by CareEdge Ratings. On the other hand, household debt rose to 6.2% of GDP, almost twice as much as ten years ago, showing that more Indians are borrowing to meet their everyday needs, the report said. The report also pointed to a wider dip in gross domestic savings, which dropped to 30.7% of GDP in FY24, down from 32.2% in FY15. Despite the worrying decline in savings, the report notes a more promising outlook in rural India. Wage growth for rural male workers rose 6.1% year-on-year in February, marking the fourth straight month that earnings outpaced rural inflation. Easing food inflation and healthy agricultural prospects are also helping boost rural consumption. 'Going ahead, RBI policy rate cuts, lower tax burden and continued easing of price pressures remain key tailwinds for the broad-based demand recovery,' CareEdge said in the report. Rural consumer confidence is showing cautious optimism, holding steady near the neutral 100 mark. Meanwhile, urban consumer sentiment remains subdued, although expectations for the year ahead remain hopeful across both rural and urban households. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like May 2025: Top 5 Dividend Stocks [Read Now] Seeking Alpha Read Now Undo The report also highlighted a broader trend of cost control in corporate India. Labour cost growth in major IT firms, for instance, has dropped from a high of 26% in Q3 FY23 to just 4% in Q3 FY25, pointing to continued efforts at cost rationalisation. On the inflation front, there's more good news. India's retail inflation, measured by the Consumer Price Index (CPI), fell to 3.2% in April 2025, the lowest since August 2019. However, prices of essentials such as edible oils (up 17.4%) and fruits (up 13.8%) remain stubbornly high. A strong Rabi harvest, healthy water reservoir levels, and forecasts of an above-normal monsoon are expected to help stabilise food prices further. As per government data, the Indian economy grew by 6.5% in real terms in FY25, signalling resilience despite pressures on household balance sheets. Tech firm interviews 450 out of 12,000 applicants, hires none. Here's why

A tech company's hiring drive for a junior developer role took an unexpected turn as not a single candidate made the cut, despite 12,000 applications and 450 interviews.A Reddit post, now doing the rounds online, revealed how the company's recruitment process hit a wall when most candidates turned out to be over-reliant on AI-generated code. 'We recently posted a job opening on LinkedIn for Junior Frontend/Backend Devs and QA roles, offering a salary range up to Rs 20 lakh,' the post read. advertisement 'Over 12,000 people applied. We filtered out more than 10,000 candidates due to insufficient skill sets or resumes that didn't align with the role, not because we want to be harsh, but because we don't want to waste candidates' time as well as ours by putting them through interview rounds only to reject them later,' it added. The role was open to junior developers, and even though the company permitted the use of tools like ChatGPT during the process, they were met with answers that lacked understanding.'We even allowed candidates to use GPT to solve problems,' the post read, adding, 'However, when we ask about time or space complexity, or an explanation of the code they just wrote, many are unable to respond.'The hiring team pointed out that most applicants were 'vibe coding,' copy-pasting AI responses without grasping the underlying logic. advertisementAccording to the post, this has made it nearly impossible to identify candidates who genuinely understand what they're company also admitted that the entire process has left it questioning how to refine its recruitment methods going a look at the post here: The post received mixed reactions online. While several users supported the company's frustration, others called out the flawed interview strategy.'Either your recruiting team is bringing you bad devs or your process has some issue,' a user pointed out, while another wrote, 'Allowing AI in DSA round is more of a red flag. This seems more like a boast about how no one's good enough.'One user suggested a solution the company might already be adopting: 'Apparently, we are switching to quiz-based interviews on DoSelect. Once cleared, then the Google Meet round.'The post has sparked a wider debate about AI-dependency in job applications and the evolving challenges in hiring genuine talent in the tech world.
