Coronation Street's Carl set for downfall amid Abi affair after surprise threat
Carl Webster could be set for a major downfall after Hope Dobbs declared she 'didn't trust' him in Friday night's episode of Coronation Street. Fans of ITV's flagship soap will know that the sacked mechanic, who was introduced earlier this year as the long-lost brother of Street legend Kevin Webster (Michael Le Vell) has been conducting an affair with his sister-in-law Abi (Sally Carman).
On the latest instalment, things took a dramatic turn when Dorin, the son of Tyrone Dobbs (Alan Halsall) and his ex Alina Pop (Ruxandra Porojnicu), was left under the care of Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson) when the pair decided to play hide and seek. But Steve fell asleep on the sofa, and he was awoken by a man from the council who had come to collect an old fridge.
Mass panic ensued when Steve failed to find the little one, and residents worried that he had been carried away in the broken appliance. Amid all this, viewers will remember that earlier this week, Hope Dobbs (Isabella Flanagan) had accidentally got a photo that could expose everything. It comes amid spoilers hinting someone may rumble Abi and Carl's affair next week.
As for Hope's photo, it was of Tyrone showing a builder's bum but both Abi and Carl could clearly be seen in the car behind them. Abi had ordered her secret lover to somehow get rid of the evidence. Hope, had had her phone confiscated by Tyrone and Abi called Carl (Jonathan Howard) to tell him where to find it whilst she took the teenager round to Roy's Rolls.
Carl went round to number nine, where he found Dorin hiding in the outhouse in the back yard, but chose not to say a thing as everyone else rallied round trying to find him. Instead, he found Hope's phone in the biscuit tin and promptly threw it in the washing up bowl.
He fished the now-damaged device out of the soapy water, and was caught immediately my Hope, who had rushed hope to look for her little brother. He fumbled an excuse but it was clear that Hope knew something was up.
Minutes later, Carl fetched Dorin from the outhouse and turned onto the Street to hand him back to Tyrone and Fiz, who were convinced that he had been taken off to landfill. Even though all was well, a row later ensued at number nine where Tyrone blasted Steve for taking his eyes off the toddler. Tyrone's long-lost mother Cassie Plummer (Claire Sweeney) told Tyrone: "Have a heart, Ty. How long is it since Amy was that age?"
She had momentarily forgot that, as well as Amy, Steve also had a child called Oliver with Leanne Battersby (Jane Danson), who died when he was the same age Dorin is currently. Carl's face fell as he learned the truth, and quickly apologised.
Abi later castigated Carl in the ginnel, having worked out that Carl had stayed silent about Dorin's whereabouts. He protested: "I knew he was fine, what difference does it make? I couldn't have told them two minutes earlier and have everyone see that photograph!"
But Abi shot back: "We have gone too far! There were ringing the council, and the police, they were going out of their minds. If that was Alfie and I thought he was dead, and someone could've spared me three seconds of that pain..." before storming off.
Steve, currently partnered up with Cassie has been living with Tyrone and Fiz whilst his divorce with Tracy Barlow (Kate Ford) is being finalised. But the whole drama with Dorin prompted Tyrone to tell Steve to pack his bags, and it left him with 'no idea' where to go next.
All day, Hope had been excited to go to a gig, having badgered Tyrone for permission all week. But with everything that had happened, Tyrone said it was 'too late' at the last minute.
In the end, he joked that it was the silver lining in the whole situation that Hope's unflattering photo of him was gone forever, but Hope, deep in thought suddenly mused: "I don't trust Jack's uncle. I think he did it on purpose." Tyrone replied: "Carl? He literally saved our bacon this afternoon, your brother could've been anywhere... I dread to think." But Hope was not convinced by any of it.
Over at the Bistro, Abi forgave Carl for his actions. She told him: "You know I don't want this to end. I want this to go on forever." But with Hope seemingly on the case, and the news that Tracy Barlow is set to wade in on things, it looks as though things could be about to come out a lot sooner than she had planned.

Isla Bryson's mum slams Nicola Sturgeon over gender comments
Janet's son was born Adam Graham but began to identify as a woman called Isla while awaiting trial for rape. The mum of trans rapist Isla Bryson has ridiculed Nicola Sturgeon's comments that male rapists should 'probably' lose the right to choose their gender. Janet's son was born Adam Graham but began to identify as a woman called Isla while awaiting trial for rape. The convict was sent to a female jail before Sturgeon, then first minister, announced a switch to all-male HMP Edinburgh following a public outcry over the case. The case fuelled outrage over the Gender Recognition Reform (Scotland) Bill and also contributed to the later resignation of Sturgeon, who was instrumental in forcing controversial gender self-ID laws through Holyrood, as FM. Speaking in a recent TV interview with ITV to mark the release of her memoir Frankly, the former SNP leader, said that 'anybody who commits the most heinous male crime against women probably forfeits the right to be the gender of their choice.' However Bryson's mum has said 'selecting' who has the right to self ID fundamentally undermines the very principles it is based on. Speaking exclusively to the Sunday Mail, Janet, 65, said: said: ' Nicola Sturgeon says that my son, who was born a man,. should not be able to pick his gender because he is a convicted rapist. 'The problem with any blanket policy is that is applies to everyone. 'So if you allow people to self ID, then you can't cherry pick who does and who does not. The core principal is the person is allowed to select their self. 'The Gender self ID meant Adam could say he was a woman, even when he was and is biologically male. 'By now saying some trans women are not women, goes against everything the reform brought in. 'Nicola Sturgeon was warned about the policy, and Adam's case showed up the biggest flaw in the system. 'Going back on that now, just undermines everything and proves all it did was allow any man, even a rapist, the right to say they are a woman giving them access to all the rights and spaces that women have.' At the height of the furore around the double rapist's case, Sturgeon repeatedly refused to call Bryson a man but in the TV interview last week the former SNP leader said : 'Isla Bryson identified as a woman.' In April Britain's highest court ruled only two biological sexes - male and female, assigned at birth - can be recognised under the 2010 Equality Act. But they said trans people were still protected from discrimination by the act. Sturgeon has previously faced calls - from women's right campaigners, backed by Janet - to apologise over the controversial gender self-ID laws and erosion of women's rights following the ruling. Speaking after the ruling, Janet, had said: 'I'm pleased with the ruling which ends years of confusion over these new gender laws and now the rights of biological women are clear and protected. 'That has now been made clear but it should never have been questioned in the first place. But I think it is now time Ms Sturgeon apologised.' The former leader said last week that she was partly to blame for the debate on gender recognition laws in Scotland losing 'all sense of rationality'. The Scottish Government introduced laws in 2018 to include people given the legal GRC document, which would allow them to use single-sex areas, including women's loos and changing rooms. During the case, the Scottish Government argued in court that transgender people with a GRC are entitled to the same sex-based protections as biological women. Mum-of-three Janet has always refuted Bryson's claims he had wanted to be a girl from age four. She said: 'My son never expressed any wish that he wanted to be a girl, dressed in any other way or ever asked to be called by any other name than Adam growing up. Never once, at the age of four or at any other age.' Janet has dozens of family pictures of Bryson. She has been left traumatised by her son's conviction because she had been a sex attack victim. Bryson, 34, was convicted of raping women while known as Graham in 2023 and jailed for eight years, with a further three on licence.

Loose Women stars left 'disappointed' over major change to show following huge budget cuts
The stars of ITV 's Loose Women have reportedly been left 'disappointed' at a major change to the show. The panelists are said to be facing a tight squeeze in a new 'broom cupboard' studio following recent cuts. The recent move to London 's Celebro from White City comes as the all-female talk show will air on ITVX in a brand new schedule shake-up. According to insiders, once ITV's budget cuts come into effect in January, Loose Women will no longer have A-list guests in the studio, and the broadcast has planned to only consist of the panel debating newsworthy topics from the week. It is switching to 30 weeks from 52, meaning the 100-strong studio audience will go too. A source told The Sun: 'Cast and crew are crestfallen. It feels like a broom cupboard. It's going to be very cramped. 'It feels like the show they've fought so long and hard to create is slowly being decimated. It's heartbreaking.' Show bosses are reportedly keen to capitalise on new host Olivia Attwood, who has 250million viewers across her streams. Daily Mail has reached out to ITV for comment. Speaking at the National Reality TV Awards in London recently, Linda said: 'We are all rallying together. It will be very sad if we can't have guests. 'It's a shame people are losing their jobs. We're all like a family. We've been together through births, marriages, deaths. It's been very hard. Everyone's worried about the show. 'We're just trying to stay positive and hope for the best. But hopefully it's not going be as bad as it already is,' The Mirror reports. Recently Loose lady Janet Street-Porter revealed to the publication which stars are at risk from brutal cost-saving cuts by ITV - and which panelists are safe. The 78-year-old has shed light on the reality behind the looming cuts proposed by the broadcaster, which are set to impact several daytime shows. Janet appears certain that the 'older' Loose Women stars are not likely to be cut, given they appeal more directly to the show's target demographic. But she warns that newcomers, younger stars or those with less experience could be at risk. 'There are no plans to get rid of the older women despite what some people have said,' Janet said. The Brentford-born writer said the panel programme has gained the trust of female viewers as a place where important female-centred topics are discussed. Janet added: 'I think Loose Women has become a programme that is trusted by a lot of women because we talk about the issues that they are concerned about - whether it's female health, domestic violence or how politicians don't really understand working women.' 'I think the show has managed to connect women who wouldn't otherwise have a voice. 'And it's delivered with a lot of laughs because we don't take ourselves too seriously.'
