Oman Sail win two gold medals at GCC Beach Games
The Oman Sail athletes in the Oman National Sailing team also won two silver, two bronze and a team silver, in the Optimist team racing.
Abdullatif al Qasmi secured two wins in the ILCA 4 competition to top the table with three points. He also finished top of the Boys Fleet, where teammate Tamim al Balushi finished third and claimed fourth overall.
Mohamed al Marzooqi of UAE was second and Marwa al Hammadi third, finishing as the highest placed female sailor to win the Girls Fleet.
Both Abdullatif al Qasmi and Tamim al Balushi were selected earlier this year to be part of the newly formed ASYAD Sailing Team and compete in national, regional and international regattas.
Al Moatasem al Farsi secured two wins in the ILCA 6 competition, finishing third overall. Teammates Al Salem al Hamdani and Ibtisam al Salmi finished 8th and 11th, respectively.
Othman al Hammadi of the UAE won three of the six races to take gold, while Dawood Sadeq from Bahrain finished second.
Hussain al Jabri cruised to victory in the ILCA 7 race, winning four of the six races to win by five points. Adil al Bastaki from UAE won the first race and secured second place, and Ahmed al Sadiq from Bahrain won the last race to finish third. Hussain al Jabri's four successive wins in between allowed him to claim the medal with one race to go. Teammate Ali al Saadi finished fifth, level on points with fourth place.
Oman performed well in the Optimist competition, with Khamis al Mashaikhi claiming silver after three second places, Tarteel al Hasani finishing third, and Hood al Nofli finishing fourth. Mohammed al Qasmi finished 8th and was second in the Junior Division, while Tarteel al Hasani was the highest performing sailor in the Girls Fleet. Hadeel al Mushaifri, 12th overall, finished fourth.
These results earned Oman second place in the Optimist Team Racing. UAE took gold while Kuwait won bronze.
The team was led by Hashim al Rashdi, Oman Sail's Head Coach of Performance, alongside Sultan al Zadjali, Optimist Coach, and Ahmed al Saadi, ILCA Coach.

The medals, performances and improvement across the entire team was very pleasing and proof that our methods are working. The competition is always at a high level and gives our sailors valuable experience against their peers from across the region. We were especially happy with the team spirit and attitude displayed by the team who supported and inspired each other to put in medal winning performances.'

Oman Sailing Championship brings together the best young sailors from across the nation
Muscat: Sixty of the most talented young sailors from across the nation will gather in Ras Al Hadd in the South Al Sharqiyah Governorate for the Oman Sailing Championship where competition will take place in Optimist, OLCA 4, ILCA 6, ILCA 7 and 29er categories. Racing begins on 19 August following two training days and concludes on 22 August after 12 races to determine the winners in each category, plus the overall team/school winner. In total, 46 sailors from Oman Sail's sailing schools and many more from the United Arab Emirates will be taking part. The event comes at the end of a Summer Training Camp for the Omani team where sailors from the national teams have been enhancing their technical and tactical sailing in Ras Al Hadd under the guidance of specialist coaches. Over six weeks, the teams have worked to improve their fitness and conditioning by training on and off the water with the Oman National Sailing Championships and Mussanah Race Week firmly in mind. Abdulaziz Al Shidi, Oman Sail's Acting Director of Sailing, said, 'The Oman Sailing Championship is a prestigious event in our sailing calendar. We are excited to see all of the talent from our sailing schools on show in one place and to welcome young sailors from the United Arab Emirates to join us. Oman has a close relationship to the sea, and this part of the coast between Sur and Ras Al Hadd is known for its traditional boat building. It is fitting that the next generation of Omani sailors have the chance to take to the water and show their skills here.' Hashim Al Rashdi, Head Coach- Performance, added, 'This season we have witnessed impressive progress from all of our young sailors. This is a great chance to see this development first-hand and identify the next batch of sailors who could be capable of stepping up to the Oman national teams. We are always targeting personal and professional growth from our athletes, both as individuals and as sailors, and the chance to compete against their peers, build camaraderie within the team, and learn from each other, will be a huge long-term benefit to all participants.' Following the conclusion of the event, the team will head to the Wilayat of Sur, Al Sharqiyah South Governorate, for the Oman Sailing Championship from August 18 to 22, before beginning their preparations for 14th edition of Al Musannah Race Week from October 15—22 and the IODA Optimist Asian & Oceanian Championship, also held in the Wilayat of Al Musannah, Al Batinah South Governorate, from October 25 — November 1.
