Modi in Gujarat today: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will begin his two-day visit to Gujarat today, 26 May. During the stay in his home state, Modi will launch projects worth over ₹ 77,400 crore, hold roadshows in Vadodra, Bhuj and Ahmedabad and address public meetings.
This will be first visit of PM Modi to his home state in the aftermath of Operation Sindoor – India's attack on nine terror sites in Pakistan after the 22 April Pahalgam attack that killed 26 people, mostly tourists in South Kashmir.

Modi will then travel to Bhuj and launch multiple development projects worth over ₹ 53,400 crore. He will address gatherings at both places, according to a government statement. The Dahod plant will produce electric locomotives of 9,000 HP for domestic purposes and for export.
These locomotives will be equipped with regenerative braking systems, and are being designed to reduce energy consumption, the statement said.
In Bhuj, the projects being launched include transmission projects for evacuating renewable power generated in the Khavda Renewable Energy Park, transmission network expansion, and an ultra super critical thermal power plant unit at Tapi.
Urban Development Year 2005 in Gujarat was a flagship initiative launched by Modi as chief minister with the aim of transforming Gujarat's Urban landscape through planned infrastructure, better governance, and improved quality of life for Urban residents.
On Tuesday Modi will attend an event celebrating 20 years of Gujarat Urban Growth Story and launch Urban Development Year 2025 in Gandhinagar.
At around 11 AM on 27 May, Modi will participate in the celebrations of 20 years of Gujarat Urban Growth Story and launch Urban Development Year 2025 in Gandhinagar. He will also address the gathering on the occasion.
Marking 20 years of the initiative, Modi will launch the Urban Development Year 2025, Gujarat's Urban development plan and State Clean Air Programme in Gandhinagar. He will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for multiple projects related to Urban development, health and water supply.
Modi will flag off Vande Bharat Express between Veraval and Ahmedabad, and an express train between Valsad and Dahod stations. The prime minister will also inaugurate the gauge converted Katosan- Kalol section and flag off a freight train on it.

Mehul Choksi's bank accounts, shares attached by Sebi over ₹2.1 crore dues
Markets regulator Sebi has ordered the attachment of bank accounts and shares and mutual fund holdings of absconding diamantaire Mehul Choksi to recover dues totalling ₹2.1 crore in a case of violation of insider trading rules in the shares of Gitanjali Gems. The latest move followed a demand notice issued to Choksi on May 15, warning attachment of assets as well as bank accounts if he failed to make the payment within 15 days. The demand notice came after Choksi failed to pay the fine imposed by the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) in January 2022 in a case of violation of insider trading rules in the shares of Gitanjali Gems Ltd. Choksi, who was the chairman and managing director as well as part of promoter group of Gitanjali Gems, is the maternal uncle of Nirav Modi. Both are facing charges of defrauding state-owned Punjab National Bank (PNB) of more than ₹14,000 crore. Both Choksi and Modi fled India after the PNB scam came to light in early 2018. In April, Choksi was arrested in Belgium following an extradition request by Indian probe agencies. He was located in Belgium last year when he went there for getting medical treatment. He had been staying in Antigua since 2018 after leaving India. Modi was arrested by the Scotland Yard Police in March 2019 and is currently in jail in that country. In an attachment notice dated June 4, Sebi said the pending dues of ₹2.1 crore include the initial fine of ₹1.5 crore and interest of ₹60 lakh. To recover the dues, Sebi asked all the banks, depositories -- CDSL and NSDL -- and mutual funds not to allow any debit from the accounts of Choksi. However, credits have been permitted. Further, Sebi has directed the banks to attach all accounts, including lockers, held by the defaulter. Initiating the recovery proceedings, Sebi said there is sufficient reason to believe that Choksi may dispose of the amounts in the bank accounts, mutual fund folios and securities in the demat accounts held with the depositories and "realisation of the amount due under the certificate would, in consequence, be delayed or obstructed". In its order passed in January 2022, the regulator imposed a penalty of ₹1.5 crore on Choksi and restrained him from the securities market for one year. Sebi had found that Choksi communicated unpublished price sensitive information to one Rakesh Girdharlal Gajera, who sold his entire shareholding of 5.75 per cent in Gitanjali Gems in December 2017 with the intention of avoiding loss ahead of any event which may lead to disclosure of fraudulent issuance of LoUs (letter of undertaking) to Gitanjali Group and magnitude in public domain. It was noted that fraudulent LoUs were issued on behalf of entities belonging to the Gitanjali Group, including GGL. "Noticee no. 1 (Choksi) was found to have communicated UPSI (unpublished price sensitive information) to Noticee no. 2 (Gajera) without any underlying legal obligation or any legitimate purpose," Sebi had said in its final order. Through such activities, the two persons had violated the provisions of the PIT (Prohibition of Insider Trading) rules. In May 2023, Sebi sent a notice to Choksi directing him to pay ₹5.35 crore in a case pertaining to fraudulent trading in the shares of Gitanjali Gems.

Why Pakistan monitoring Taliban in UNSC is a rogue on police duty
Pakistan as chair of the UNSC's 1988 Taliban Sanctions Committee for 2025 may appear like a routine act in international diplomacy, but it's seemingly a deeply troubling irony. It will hold this position till December 31, 2025, while also serving as one of the vice-chairs of the 15-member UNSC's Counter-Terrorism accused of harbouring and aiding the Taliban, from its formation in 1994 to its resurgence in 2021, Pakistan is now tasked with overseeing punitive measures against it. Yet, there's a parallel truth to it — the Taliban, the very force Pakistan once nurtured, now appears increasingly estranged from it. The Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), an offshoot of the outfit, has unleashed waves of deadly violence across the country over the years. In 2024, nearly 15,000 Taliban fighters reportedly mobilised towards the Durand Line after Pakistani airstrikes targeted TTP positions inside signs of this estrangement are evident diplomatically too. The Taliban government in Afghanistan recently condemned the Pahalgam terror attack in India, stating that "such acts threaten regional security". Communal post case: Influencer Sharmistha Panoli walks out of jail; arrested over controversial video
NEW DELHI: A law student, Sharmistha Panoli arrested for allegedly hurting religious sentiments through a social media video walked out of Alipore Women's Correctional Home on Friday, a day after the Calcutta high court granted her interim bail. Panoli was arrested by Kolkata Police on May 30 from a hotel in Gurugram for a video she had posted on 'Operation Sindoor', which was deemed communal in nature. Though she deleted the video and issued a public apology on May 15, an FIR was later registered against her at the Garden Reach police station in Kolkata. The Calcutta high court on Thursday noted that the complaint did not disclose any cognisable offence and granted her interim bail. Conditions of the bail include surrendering her passport, cooperating with the investigation, and furnishing a personal bond of Rs 10,000. The court also directed that she be given police protection, citing threats she had received after the video went viral. Panoli's arrest had sparked political backlash, with BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari calling it a case of 'police overzealousness' and 'atrocities'.
