'Enough' - NASCAR Fans Demand Change For 2026 Season
NASCAR fans are demanding a major change for the 2026 season, though it's probably not possible at this point.
The 2025 NASCAR Cup Series arrived in New York over the weekend. The Go Bowling at The Glen race took place on Sunday afternoon. Shane Van Gisbergen took home the checkered flag, adding to his big-time rookie season.
NBC Sports named him the "biggest winner" of the weekend - it's hard to argue with that, obviously.
"Scored his fourth consecutive road course victory, winning by 11.1 seconds — the second largest margin of victory in Cup history at Watkins Glen. He becomes the third driver in series history to win four consecutive road course races. He is the first driver to win four road course races in a season," NBC Sports writes.
But while the weekend was a good one for Van Gisbergen, it was not for many NASCAR Cup Series fans.
NASCAR fans are more than fed up with the current car, the Next Gen Car, which came into use in 2022. The car was supposed to feature "improved" aero and downforce packages while adding new technology to the sport. It was also supposed to decrease costs and bring in new equipment manufacturers.
While that all could still be true, NASCAR fans are not happy with what the Next Gen Car has done to racing.
"The Next Gen is the worst race car that has ever been used in NASCAR," one fan wrote following Sunday's race.
Most seem to be in agreement. They would love to see some kind of major NASCAR Cup Series car change for 2026 and beyond.
"I hate how the Next Gen has made our fans want the Cup series to stop going to some of the most beautiful and unique race tracks in North America," one fan added.
"I speak for the ENTIRE fanbase when I say we need LESS road course races with the Next Gen," one fan added.
"The Next Gen car needs to be nerfed, it drives too good and now the racing isn't good. We need race cars that suck at braking and cornering for great racing," one fan added.
"If next gen was capable of racing like Xfinity on road courses people would stop complaining about road courses," one fan added.
"The NASCAR Cup Series schedule SHOULD NOT be molded around the Next Gen car. The Next Gen car should be molded to the race tracks the series has attended for decades. The lack of development on this car is ridiculous," one fan added.
NASCAR fans are fed up, but it remains to be seen if any major changes will be made for 2026 and beyond.

Browns Announce Plan For Shedeur Sanders Following Injury
Browns Announce Plan For Shedeur Sanders Following Injury originally appeared on The Spun. Less than a week after his impressive preseason debut, Cleveland Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders suffered an injury in practice. Sanders suffered an oblique strain during throwing drills on Wednesday. Although he stayed on the field for the entirety of joint practice with the Philadelphia Eagles, he was just a spectator due to his injury. He's unlikely to suit up for Saturday's preseason game. "Yeah, felt it early, I think warming up and then felt it throughout individual [drills], so took a look at it. If it's a right guard, you can play through that. When it's a quarterback, you kind of need that muscle to throw," Stefanski said, via Pro Football Talk. "So, unfortunately, going to put him down for a little bit here." How long is a "little bit" for the Browns? No one really knows, but Stefanski said they'll be smart with their rookie quarterback. "We'll treat it day-to-day and see how it responds. But, want to be smart because he's a thrower — you can't push that thing." During Cleveland's preseason opener, Sanders completed 14-of-23 passes for 138 yards with two touchdowns. His performance was so good that fans assumed he'd move up the depth chart. That hasn't been the case though. With Sanders banged up, the Browns are expected to get a closer look at their other rookie quarterback, former Oregon star Dillon Gabriel. "The plan was always to give both of those guys start in the preseason, so we'll see how it shakes out," Stefanski told reporters Wednesday. Kickoff for the Browns-Eagles game is at 1 p.m. ET this Saturday. New York Radio Host Floats Absurd Theory About Juan Soto
New York Radio Host Floats Absurd Theory About Juan Soto originally appeared on The Spun. You can always tell that things are going poorly in New York City sports when the radio people start floating their craziest ideas about the players. For WFAN's Brandon Tierney, Juan Soto's struggles amid the New York Mets' ongoing slump has him lamenting the long-term deal that the team signed him to last year. Tierney expressed concern that Soto won't be playing at a high level anywhere near the length of the deal. But then he took the topic in a slightly different direction. He started proposing that Soto might not even be 26 years old. Tierney pointed out that a 26-year-old should still have "a youthful glow" and he's not even sure anymore if Soto is the age he says he is. "Does he look 26?. When you're 26, you have a youthful glow... I think there's a good chance he's not 26, I'll say it," Tierney said. Tierney stopped short of stating what age he believes Soto really is, but suggested he's a lot closer to his 30s than to 26. "I don't even want to give you a number because it's just giving it more and more credence. By the way, I don't think he's in his 30s, I'm not saying that. Maybe, uh, close," he added. Fans were stunned by the statement To say that baseball fans were shocked that Tierney would say something like that would be a bit of an understatement. Just about everyone who saw the clip has been calling him out for a slew of reasons that the statement seems to terrible to them: "Paul Skenes looks like he's 35. He doesn't have that youthful glow! Someone get his birth certificate!" one user mocked on X. "He should sue this (expletive) and bankrupt him and this idiotic station," "Lying about age is a stereotype right? Hispanic players that came to the states? Bad, bad look. Wonder if anyone holds him accountable for this?" a third wrote. "Tierney should be taken off the airwaves. Making accusations like that with out any facts supporting it is grounds for dismissal." Some believe Tierney though Not everyone is convinced that Tierney was being a clown with that statement. A few believe that Soto simply looks too old to be the age he says he is: "I love Soto and glad he is on the Mets but there is not a chance that man is only 26 years of age." "I would not be surprised if he was older. Those players all lie about their ages to try and make more money during their career. It's common practice." "When he was 19 he looked 26, and noticing it got Hall of Fame announcer Joe Simpson banished to the radio." Tierney may have just been trying to be funny with his remarks, which might ultimately save him from consequences. But it's really not an appropriate thing to accuse someone of, even in jest, given how much grief players tend to get over topics like that. Perhaps the backlash will at least convince Tierney not to keep making that assertion on the airwaves.
