Delhi High Court refuses to stay release of movie Udaipur Files
New Delhi [India], August 8 (ANI): The Delhi High Court on Thursday refused to stay the release of the Movie Udaipur Files. Mohd Javed, an accused in the Kanhaiya Lal murder, had approached the court seeking a stay on the release of the movie.
This movie is set to hit theatres today.
The division bench comprising Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyay and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela refused to stay the release of the movie. Accused Mohd Javed had approached the High Court on Thursday seeking a stay on the release of the movie. He had claimed that his right to a fair trial would be affected if the movie were released. On Wedneday, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) dismissed all revision petitions challenging the certification of the controversial film Udaipur Files: Kanhaiya Lal Tailor Murder, thereby clearing the path for its public release. This decision followed weeks of legal disputes, multiple appeals, and widespread public attention stemming from the film's alleged communal undertones and its depiction of matters still under judicial consideration. In its final ruling issued on August 6, 2025, the Ministry affirmed several key findings. The Revisional Authority determined that the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) had followed due process and committed no procedural errors in granting certification. It noted that the filmmakers had complied with the 55 cuts required by the CBFC and had also carried out additional voluntary edits. Furthermore, the order highlighted that no new evidence or compelling arguments had been presented to warrant a reversal of the certification. Invoking Section 6(2) of the Cinematograph Act, 1952, the Ministry concluded that there was no legitimate basis to suspend or alter the classification of the film. It underscored that all concerned parties had been provided a fair chance to present their views during the proceedings. According to the Information and Broadcasting Ministry, Section 6 allows the government to cancel the certification of a film by the Censor Board and suspend its exhibition. The Additional Solicitor General (ASG) informed the Delhi High Court that the Central Government has decided to withdraw its directive recommending six cuts in the film 'Udaipur Files'. Noting the statement given by the Additional Solicitor General (ASG), the Delhi High Court disposed of two petitions seeking a stay on the release of the movie. The film 'Udaipur Files: Kanhaiya Lal Tailor Murder' has been in headlines lately, since the Delhi High Court ordered a stay on its release on July 11. The film is based on the 2022 murder of Kanhaiya Lal, a tailor in Rajasthan's Udaipur who was brutally killed by two men in broad daylight. Earlier, last week, the High Court had directed the Central government to hear afresh the revisions and pass an order.The High Court has directed that you appear before the Central Government. After hearing the revisional authority dismiss the revision on Wednesday. (ANI)

Parents of Abhaya, RG Kar postgraduate doctor, who was raped and murdered last year on August 9, were allegedly beaten up on Saturday by Kolkata Police while they were protesting and seeking justice for their daughter. "CCTV footage and all other footages are being analysed and it will be investigated. Mother's allegation about injury is regrettable. Allegations that police have beaten her, will be probed,' Verma said. The Commissioner of Police also said that the assault on police personnel, destruction of government and private properties and violation of the directives by the High Court, will also be investigated. 'We have not found the arrest figure. HC directives were violated. We are identifying those who have destroyed government and private properties and violated directives by the High Court, will be probed,' Verma added. Verma visited SSKM- a state run hospital to meet the police personnel who were injured during yesterday's Nabanna March. 'I have come to visit the hospital to meet the police personnel admitted here,' he Kolkata Police yesterday registered an FIR against former cricketer and BJP MLA Ashok Dinda for allegedly threatening a policeman during the 'Nabanna march' to mark the one year of the rape and murder of Postgraduate doctor of the state-run R G Kar Medical College and was seen in a purported video threatening police officers. However, it has not been verified by ET Dinda said, 'India's flag was under the feet of policemen and like any Indian citizen, I have protested against it.'

No Fees For Ganesh Mandals This Year; NMC Opens Online Permission Portal
1 2 3 Nagpur: Public Ganesh mandals will not have to pay any fees to the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) this year, as the civic body has continued its exemption on sanitation and estate charges. Alongside this relief, the NMC on Sunday launched an online portal to process permissions for mandals, receiving 12 applications from five zones on the very first day. Applications came from Mangalwari Zone (2), Hanuman Nagar Zone (2), Laxmi Nagar Zone (3), Gandhibagh Zone (2), and Satranjipura Zone (3). These have been forwarded to the respective zones, and permissions will be issued within three days after NOCs are received from the fire department, local police station, and traffic police. To speed up the process, the NMC has asked personnel from all three departments to be present at zone offices to avoid delays. Earlier, the NMC charged a sanitation fee of Rs250 for the solid waste management department and Rs1,000 (per foot of gate size) for the estate department. Both charges were scrapped two years ago, and the exemption continues for 2025. In line with the state govt's August 1 notification and High Court orders, the NMC is requiring mandals to submit an affidavit on Rs100 stamp paper pledging not to install Plaster of Paris (PoP) idols. The high court has mandated that all PoP idols be immersed only in artificial tanks, and the NMC will strictly enforce this directive. The new online system incorporates traffic department permissions, making the process more convenient and time-efficient for mandals. All approvals will comply with the HC's guidelines on idol immersion. Police-Mandal Meeting on August 12 City police will hold a meeting with all Ganesh mandals on August 12 at 11am at the Suresh Bhat Hall, Reshimbagh. NMC officials, representatives from other departments, and NGOs have been invited. The meeting will cover measures to prevent PoP idols, promote govt campaigns, ensure safety during installation and immersion processions, introduce new immersion routes, and strengthen crowd management and security protocols. NAMASTE Abhiyan: 5,200 ticketless travellers detected, Rs 13.5 lakh penalty collected
At least 5,200 ticketless travellers were detected and penalty amounting to Rs 13.50 lakh collected in course of ticket checking operation at Borivali station in just a single day, Railways Ministry said on Sunday. Western Railway's Mumbai Central Division has launched a thoughtful and ethically grounded initiative — the NAMASTE Abhiyan, short for 'NAMrata Aur Strong Ticket Examination.' The campaign is a philosophy that merges humility, ensuring rule enforcement with dignity and empathy. At the heart of the initiative lies a deep commitment to values such as dignity, safety, public interest, empathy and accountability. The Abhiyan aims to restore confidence among ticket checking staff, safeguard their rights, and enhance the overall passenger experience, according to a Ministry statement. Under this initiative, a large-scale fortress ticket checking operation was carried out at Borivali station, held on August6. Over 300 ticket checking staff, along with support from the Railway Protection Force and Government Railway Police, was part of this drive. To ensure safety and transparency, specially designed protective vests have been given to TTEs. These vests carry compartments for body cameras, Hand Held Terminals (HHT), Excess Fare Ticket (EFT) Book and Mini Speakers for public announcements. This technological integration provides physical as well as legal protection to the ticket checking staff, while simultaneously reinforcing transparency and accountability in passenger interactions. Another critical component of the Abhiyan is the creation of pre-custody areas within station premises. These are localised zones under CCTV surveillance, designated to deal with ticketless travellers in a controlled and respectful manner. 'This move helps to avoid potential conflicts and unnecessary confrontations in official offices, ensuring fair treatment for both passengers and staff. Officers from the Commercial Department have conducted workshops focused on effective communication and professional passenger handling,' said the Ministry. The NAMASTE Abhiyan is a powerful example of how governance can be both strong and sensitive. It stands as a model of ethical public administration that values discipline. Rather than relying on reactive measures, it adopts a proactive and structured approach, one that upholds fairness, promotes trust, protect public property and preserves the morale of frontline personnel.
