Pooran appointed as MI New York skipper, Maxwell to lead Washington Freedom
Former West Indies batter Nicholas Pooran, who announced his retirement from all international formats on Tuesday, has been appointed as the captain of MI New York in the Major League Cricket (MLC), taking over from Kieron Pollard.
Pooran surprised the world on Tuesday by announcing his retirement from international cricket at the age of 29. Since bursting onto the international scene in 2016, Pooran featured in 106 T20Is and 61 ODIs, garnering more than 4,258 runs across both formats.
He mustered up 2,275 in the shortest format of cricket, averaging 26.14 at 136.39. While in the 50-over cricket, he tallied 1,983 runs at 39.66 while maintaining a strike rate of 99.15, laced with three centuries and 11 fifties.

Pooran's association with the MI family goes a long way back, having been signed by MI in the Indian Premier League (IPL) during the 2017 edition, but did not get a game in the only season with them. He has also been with their team in International League T20 (ILT20), MI Emirates as well, as per ESPNCricinfo.
In his debut season in MLC with the franchise, he made 388 runs in eight matches for the team at an average of 64.66, with a strike rate of 167.24. He has scored a century and two fifties, with his best score being 137*.
He finished as the top run-getter in that title-winning season. He followed it with a 180 run season in seven matches, with a fifty. They made it to the semifinals last season.
Also, Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell, who retired from ODI cricket as well recently to focus on international and franchise T20 cricket commitments, was appointed as the captain of Washington Freedom franchise, replacing Steve Smith, who won the title last season with head coach Ricky Ponting.
Maxwell bowed out of the ODI format with 3,990 runs in 149 matches and 136 innings at an average of 33.81, with four centuries and 23 fifties, and 77 wickets along with two World Cup title wins in 2015 and 2023.

In his sole season with the franchise in 2024, he scored 153 runs in five innings at an average of 38.25, a strike rate of 164.51, with a fifty. He also took 10 wickets at an average of 17.00.

Pulisic calls criticism 'way out of line,' offered to play in friendlies while skipping Gold Cup
American star Christian Pulisic says while he decided to skip the CONCACAF Gold Cup, U.S. coaches turned down his offer to play in friendlies against Turkey and Switzerland because they wanted one roster for all games. 'You can talk about my performances, whatever you want, but to question my commitment especially toward the national team, in my opinion that's way out of line,' Pulisic said during an interview with former U.S. players Tony Meola, Jimmy Conrad and Charlie Davis on a CBS Sports Golazo podcast released Thursday. Pulisic played about 120 games for AC Milan and the U.S. over the past two seasons. 'Toward the second half and toward the end of the season, hey, my body just started talking to me and my mind and then I started to think what is best and — what is going to be best for me leading into next year and going into the World Cup,' he said. "Was that to play eight more games and then get no rest at all, go straight into preseason and then grind another year and then go straight into the World Cup? That's not what I thought was best for my body.' Ahead of their Gold Cup opener against Trinidad and Tobago this Sunday, the U.S. lost to Turkey 2-1 last weekend and to Switzerland 4-0 on Tuesday, giving the Americans their first four-game losing streak since 2007. 'I did want to be a part of at least the two friendlies. I did speak with the coaches and I asked and I wanted to be part of the team in whatever capacity I could and they said no," Pulisic said. "They said they only wanted one roster and that's the coach's decision. I fully respect that. I didn't understand it, but it is what it is.' Landon Donovan, Clint Dempsey and Tim Howard have been critical of regulars not being on the current roster. 'It is tough because I looked up to those guys growing up, Pulisic said. "Some of these guys are my idols and I respect them so much as players.' 'Some of them, as well, even privately the way they can — the way they talk to me and clearly want to show support and be your friend and everything and then it goes and they say something slightly different publicly," he added. 'Does it hurt me? Am I surprised by it? I don't know, not really. People are always going to have their opinions but in the end I'm focused on how can I better myself.' Pulisic rejected some of the criticism aimed at the U.S. following losses to Panama and Canada in March at the CONCACAF Nations League final four. 'I didn't come out of that feeling like we were a weak team or performed really poorly,' he said. 'The only other thing that does frustrate me is this narrative that people want to create, that it's that we don't care, that's it's a commitment and stuff like that. That's something that in my opinion it can just be kind of a lazy take.' 'Just to say always, 'These guys don't care, bring guys that have pride,'' he added, 'that's just not — that's not really the answer, in my opinion. There's a lot more to a soccer game that you need to do to win than just to care, and I think a lot of us care.' Pulisic watched Tuesday's loss to Switzerland from afar, 'It's hard to watch. The results have been tough, for sure,' he said. 'There's still a lot of promising things that we can take from it. Going into the Gold Cup, I still think we can be excited and want to support this team. In these games, there's been some changes, some new faces, and it's not easy for those type of guys to step in and do an amazing job and expect great results right away.' Cummins claims 300th Test wicket at Lord's in WTC final
London, Jun 12 (UNI) Australia captain Pat Cummins on Thursday became the eighth Australian and 22nd bowler overall to claim 300 Test wickets, as he led a devastating bowling performance against South Africa on the second day of the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final at Lord's. Cummins' extraordinary 6 for 28 — the best bowling figures by a Test captain at Lord's — dismantled South Africa's batting order and handed Australia a crucial first-innings lead in the high-stakes encounter. In a remarkable statistical milestone, the match also saw history being created as Cummins joined Mitchell Starc and Nathan Lyon to form the first-ever Test bowling attack featuring three players with 300 or more wickets. Josh Hazlewood, who missed the mark narrowly, sits on 280. Speaking to the host broadcaster at the innings break, Cummins said, "It's great, and I've got some family here which is nice.
