Ace Indian race walker Priyanka Goswami notches first win of season
Ace Indian race walker Priyanka Goswami notched her first win of the season, taking the top spot in the women's 10km event at the Austrian Race Walking Championships in Innsbruck.
Goswami clocked 47 minute and 54 second to win the 10km race walk on Monday. Her pet event is, though, 20km race walk in which she holds the national record holder of 1:28:45.
She has a personal best of 45 minute 47 seconds in the 10km event which she had clocked in 2022.
'I finished even after a one minute penalty... it was not easy to finish (to win gold) after the penalty and fever,' the 29-year-old Goswami wrote on her social media handles.
Goswami also competes in longer distance events.
She had finished second in the Athletics Victoria Walking Championships in Melbourne in May with a time of 2 hour, 26 minute and 54 seconds.
In the men's 35km race walk event in Innsbruck, Sandeep Kumar finished second, clocking 2:38:45 while Ram Baboo was third with 2:41:47.

Earlier, Gambhir welcomed the newcomers in the side in a team huddle, with a special mention for Karun Nair, who is making a comeback into the Indian team after eight long years. 'Comebacks are never easy. Someone who has made a comeback after seven (eight) years had a phenomenal last year,' Gambhir said. 'Last year, no matter the runs you have got, and most importantly, that never-die attitude, never-giving-up attitude, that is something which has got you back into the team. That is something which is inspiring for this entire world. Welcome, Karun,' he added. Nair was rewarded with a place in the India Test squad, after the Karnataka batter's exceptional domestic season. The right-hander scored 863 runs in the Ranji Trophy 2024-25, averaging 53.93 with four centuries and two fifties in 16 innings. Nair also scored 135 in the final, thus leading his side to the title.

England is going to be tested against ‘well-prepared' India, says coach McCullum
England head coach Brendon McCullum believes his team will be tested against a strong Indian side in the upcoming five-match Test series starting June 20. However, he is confident the players are clear about the direction they want to take in red-ball cricket. McCullum said England is looking forward to the challenge from India as both teams begin a new World Test Championship cycle. 'They're an outstanding cricketing nation, who will come here with high hopes, and we are looking forward to seeing them,' he told Sky Sports Cricket. 'It's important the guys refresh. We know where we want to get to as a Test team.' The hosts will be without injured pacer Mark Wood for at least the first three Tests, while Jofra Archer and Gus Atkinson are also set to miss the opener. Despite the setbacks, McCullum expressed confidence in England's bowling depth. 'There are some quality bowlers that are unavailable, but we have a nice, varied bowling attack with Chris Woakes, Sam Cook, Brydon Carse, Jamie Overton, Josh Tongue for the high-pace element,' he said. Yet somehow, the build-up of the series seems to revolve mainly around those who are gone. India will be without Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Ravichandran Ashwin, all three of whom have announced their retirement from Test cricket. So, while taking nothing away from their legendary careers and all that they have achieved for Indian cricket, it's time to move on and focus on the next generation of cricketers. Because the fact of the matter is simple: Indian cricket needs to look forward to a batter tomorrow, and while the squad at hand may not be rich in experience, these players are not sitting ducks either. With eight days to go for the series opener at Leeds, head coach Gautam Gambhir assembled his bunch of players and made them understand the gravity of the situation. Either they can sit back and sulk that India are without three of their biggest cricketers or take this opportunity to prove the world otherwise.
