The Bodyguard meets The Diplomat: Inside Suranne Jones's new gripping Netflix thriller series Hostage
Following the release of Department Q and our subsequent binge-watching of the cold case series, we're in a major thriller series drought right now, but thankfully our prayers are about to answered as Netflix has just confirmed their next show set to have us on the edge of our seat is Hostage starring Suranne Jones.
Announced earlier today [18 June] Netflix revealed Hostage will be coming to our screens in August later this year and will star Suranne Jones as the British Prime Minister whose husband is kidnapped.
We don't know about you but it's giving us major The Diplomat and The Bodyguard energy. Curious to know more? Here's everything to possibly know about the new series Hostage.
Hostage stars Suranne Jones as the British Prime Minister, whose husband is kidnapped and taken hostage. As if this wasn't enough to deal with already, the visiting French President is being blackmailed while on English soil. The two powerhouses are forced into an unlikely pairing where they must work together, despite their history to work against this shared threat.
The series is written by Matt Charman, who has previously written Treason and Bridge of Spies, said Suranne's performance in Hostage is "going to blow the Netflix audience away" and describes her character as "An embattled British PM in the middle of a fight for her country and her family – she's fierce, ruthless and you can't take your eyes off of her."
The series will be five episodes long.
Leading the series as the British Prime Minister is Suranne Jones, whom you'll likely know from her roles in Doctor Foster, Vigil and Gentleman Jack, amongst many others.
Speaking about joining the Netflix series, Suranne said: "I'm thrilled to be on Netflix, in something I'm really proud of. It's been something I've wanted to do for a long time. We'd talked about projects previously, but for me it was about finding the right thing. Hostage was perfect - me and Matt together backed up by this brilliant, supportive team. I loved it."
From the first look photos Julie Delpy appears to be portraying the French President in Hostage. Also joining the cast are Lucian Msamati, James Cosmo, Ashley Thomas, Martin McCann, Jehnny Beth and Queen Charlotte's Corey Mylchreest.
There's not too long to wait as Hostage will be released in just over two months on 21 August, with all episodes dropping on the same day.

Jurassic World Fans Wondered Why Jonathan Bailey Got So Jacked For Rebirth, And He Provided A Reasonable Explanation
When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. In 2024, Jonathan Bailey appeared in a now-viral social media post curling dumbbells in a red tank top while preparing for his work in the upcoming Jurassic World: Rebirth. Bailey's arms were looking totally jacked, to say the least. However, some fans of the Jurassic Universe had a ton of thoughts, as some folks were baffled (and slightly thirsty). Now, Bailey is providing a reasonable explanation for his physical transformation for the 2025 movie release. The original image, shared by Film Updates on X, quickly racked up millions of views and a tidal wave of commentary. Many assumed it was an over-the-top bit of method actor vanity, but Bailey, as it turns out, had a solid reason for the gains. In a recent British GQ profile, the actor sheds light on the intense physical prep for Rebirth. According to him, it was spurred by a suggestion from his co-stars in regard to surviving the production days: Scarlett and Mahershala were like, 'You have to go to the gym so you can sustain it and get through the day.' You're constantly running with the energy that you're about to be chomped by a T-Rex. The upcoming action movie, shot on location in the mangroves and fields of Krabi, Thailand, demanded stamina. Bailey joins the stellar Jurassic World Rebirth cast in the role of Dr. Henry Loomis, a paleogeneticist enlisted by a private pharma company to extract dinosaur DNA for potential medical breakthroughs. It's a part that involves a ton of running, rock climbing and, apparently, at least one scene where Loomis works out on screen. The Fellow Travelers star teased: You'll find out. There's something about his character he talks about. He goes to the gym and it's a moment in the story! Ahead of this explanation, fans were quick to poke fun at the actor's training. Here's a quick roundup of standout reactions from X users: 'The dinosaurs are CGI he doesn't need to do all that 😭' —@aidanthereup 'Jurassic World don't have a single movie where he needs to pull this off.' —@DOUZIE25'Are they about to have fight the damn dinosaurs one on one? 😳' —@waxxdoll 'Until the bedroom looks like a raptor ransacked it.' —@krasinskifilm 'What scene does need him to do all this training ' – @soneslovesoshi 'Why is this needed... is he going to wrestle a t-rex?' – @1MrPapi More on Jurassic World Jurassic World Rebirth Will Honor The Series' Canon So Far, And New Franchise Details Make Me Hopeful The Video Games Will Be Part Of That Promise My favorite response came from user @s1yz0r, who shared an AI-enhanced image of the OG cast ripped entirely. You can see their post linked here. Man, oh man. Mr. Hammond "spared no expense" on getting that screen ready, bod. Am I right? It's clear that Jonathan Bailey has an affinity for the original Jurassic Park trilogy, and his comments hit a similar tone to writer David Koepp's previous remarks, highlighting the rules the creators of the next installment placed on themselves as they push the Jurassic World story forward, while honoring the original Steven Spielberg film. As a fan, what more could you ask for really? Jokes aside, Loomis may not be facing off against a raptor, but Bailey's biceps are not just for show. They contribute to a full-bodied, awe-inspiring immersion into a universe that fans of Jurassic's more science-focused and paleontology-based storytelling will 'dig.' Pun intended. As for the specifics of the gym scene, fans will have to wait until Jurassic World Rebirth hits theaters on July 2, 2025.

Rod Stewart: Trump has become ‘somebody I didn't know'
Rod Stewart says that the presidency has changed Donald Trump — whom he once knew 'very well' — into someone he doesn't recognize. 'I'm not a great fan of Trump,' the 'Maggie May' singer said in an interview with the Radio Times published Tuesday. 'I knew him very, very well. I used to go to his house,' Stewart said. The Grammy Award winner said his Florida home is 'literally half a mile away' from Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach. 'I used to go to his Christmas parties. He's always been a bit of a man's man. I liked him for that. But he didn't, as far as I'm concerned, treat women very well,' Stewart said. 'But since he became president, he became another guy. Somebody I didn't know,' the 80-year-old British songwriter said of Trump. Asked by the publication if he still considered Trump a friend, Stewart sharply criticized the president's support of Israel. 'No, I can't anymore. As long as he's selling arms to the Israelis — and he still is. How's that war ever gonna stop?' Stewart asked. In February, the Trump administration announced a $7 billion arms sale to Israel. 'Someone's gotta do something. What [Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu] is doing to the Palestinians is exactly what happened to the Jews,' Stewart said. Last month, Netanyahu said Israel would control all of the Gaza Strip and its military would steer food and aid distribution to Palestinians in the strip in coordination with U.S. companies. The move came following nearly three months of a blockade that drew widespread international condemnation, which Israel had said was needed to pressure Hamas to release dozens of hostages it kidnapped from Israel during its Oct. 7, 2023, attack. 'It's annihilation, and that's all he wants to do – get rid of them all,' Stewart said of Netanyahu. 'I don't know how they sleep at night,' he said.

Chandi explains Bahamas drama and broken "rule" in Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders season 2
Netflix just dropped season 2 of America's Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, and there was some pretty major drama. The season kicked off with DCC veteran Chandi being made a team leader, which put a lot of pressure on her — especially as she was dealing with relationship issues at the same time. But things came to a head during a team trip to the Bahamas, where Chandi broke a "rule" off-camera that made her fellow dancers feel unsafe and resulted in her taking a "leave of absence." While everyone was pretty cryptic about the whole thing, Chandi opened up about the situation on camera — explaining that she met someone on the trip and allowed him to come back to a shared hotel room. This made Chandi's teammates feel unsafe, and also goes against the DCC's guidelines about giving out personal information regarding the team's whereabouts while traveling. As team leader Jada put it, "a lot of people were just worried for their safety because they didn't know who this individual was." Chandi explained that she was going through a hard time personally due to a breakup (plus the pressure of being team leader), and met someone she could confide in. "I broke a DCC rule and had time with my friend," she explained. "And it was the first time I feel like I mental dumped everything, and everything that was happening, and everything I've gone through, and everything that was making me feel and think certain things. "It helped me in the moment. And I get it, it was probably the wrong place and time to do that. But selfishly, I had to do it for me. Because I feel like I was just, I was losing it." She added of rumours that they slept together, "No, everyone will think it happened, but I'm respectful of everything." Chandi ended up re-joining the team after time away, and seemed a lot happier once she was back without the pressure of leading. That said, fellow team member KayDianna left after being suspended for talking about the situation on TikTok live. Meanwhile, Chandi retired at the end of the season and told cameras "DCC has taught me a lot about myself and about life, and I'm ready to move on."
