Mark Sears' floater at OT buzzer sends No. 7 Alabama past No. 1 Auburn, 93-91
All-American guard Mark Sears hit a game-winning floater as time expired, and No. 7 Alabama spoiled the home finale of rival and No. 1 Auburn with a 93-91 overtime road win Saturday.
The bucket from Sears came after National Player of the Year candidate Johni Broome drained a 3-pointer with just under 14.7 seconds remaining.
Alabama called a timeout following Broome's 3-pointer, setting up a play for Sears. The guard got the ball above the 3-point line at the wing, getting the pass from Labaron Philon. Philon ran in Sears' direction, causing some misdirection as Auburn's defenders weren't sure whether to switch.
That hesitation allowed Sears to dribble into the paint, firing off a runner that went in. The bucket was only Sears' ninth point of the game, but Alabama rode a team effort to take down Auburn and Broome, who had 34 points on Saturday.
For Alabama, the buzzer beater served as a bit of justice for what happened last week. Tennessee 's Jahmai Mashack drained a deep 3-pointer at the buzzer to give the Volunteers the win over the Crimson Tide.
Saturday's game nearly had the same heartbreak for Alabama. While Saturday's game was a close contest throughout, Alabama held an eight-point lead roughly halfway through the second half and had taken the lead with 1:17 remaining in overtime.
If the two teams were to meet again, it would be in the championship game of the SEC Tournament. The win improved Alabama to 13-5 in conference play, ensuring that it would finish third in SEC regular-season play and hold the No. 3 seed in the upcoming conference tournament. With the loss, Auburn fell to 27-4 (15-3) on the season, but it had already clinched the SEC regular-season title.

Auburn football lands commitment from three-star 2026 athlete After a going through a commitment drought, Auburn landed a quality back from Mississippi on Monday. It has been over two months since Auburn football has landed a commitment for its 2026 recruiting class. That changed Monday as a three-star athlete from Mississippi announced his pledge to Hugh Freeze and the Auburn Tigers. Eric Perry, a three-star athlete from Desoto Central High School in Southaven, Mississippi, made the announcement Monday after taking an official visit to the Plains over the weekend. Perry has received offers from Jackson State, North Alabama, and Sacremento State, among others. However, he could not turn down an offer from the program the caliber of Auburn, and jumped at the first opportunity. "I just wanted to play at the highest level in the SEC," Perry said in an interview with Auburn Undercover. "I really didn't want to play anywhere else. They had reached out to me and I was real excited because my cousin played at Mississippi State and so to me, that was the standard for where I had to be. It was really the first time I came here." Perry is an elite talent with the skill set to play multiple positions. He plays quarterback for Desoto Central, however, Auburn plans to use him as a running back. The 6-0, 195-pound speedster has rushed for 1600 yards and 18 scores over the last two seasons as a quarterback, while passing for 2,832 yards and 19 touchdowns in that same time frame. Perry is the No. 35 player from Mississippi according to 247Sports' composite rankings for the 2026 cycle, and is the No. 87 overall athlete from the class. He is the eighth player to commit to Auburn's 2026 class, and is the first running back to do so. Saturday and Sunday against the Mountaineers, the sophomore infielder made his plate appearances count. With a mix of power and patience at the plate, Milam finished the series with eight RBI and credits "getting back to the basics" for his success. "I love the big moment," Milam said. "I didn't play or help my team as much as I wanted to during the year and I had to step up to take pressure off the other guys. I feel like I've been able to do that." The Tigers only hope Milam's success continues now that they claimed a berth in the College World Series and learned they will open against No. 3 seed Arkansas. "Our whole team is running great at bats one through nine," Milam said. "You can punch in 15 different guys, and we're going to beat you," Milam said. This wasn't Milam's first time appearing in a big moment. In the 2024 SEC Tournament, Milam delivered a big home run that was instrumental in LSU securing an NCAA Tournament appearance.
