GOF cracks down on ornamental plant smuggling in Kelantan border districts
In a statement on Tuesday (May 20), Brigade Commander Datuk Nik Ros Azhan Nik Ab Hamid said the operation, under Op Taring Wawasan Kelantan, led to the discovery of 115 blackwood bonsai trees, 3,000 jasmine plants, 5,000 Papan plants, and 3,000 Jina plants believed to have been brought in illegally.
The 42-year-old driver was allegedly transporting the plants, estimated at RM2.42mil, to a nursery in Perak. The case is being investigated under Section 5 of the Plant Quarantine Act 1976 (Act 167).
In a separate incident in Jeram Perdah, Pasir Mas, Nik Ros Azhan said another suspicious lorry was detained in front of Pos Pok Teh Kana around 7.30pm the same day.
He said a search of the vehicle uncovered 15,000 green bamboo plants and 30 casuarina trees believed to have been smuggled from Thailand for delivery to a nursery in Johor. The estimated value of this seizure, including the lorry, is RM1.02mil.
Nik Ros Azhan emphasised that it will carry out sustained, intensive enforcement along the border to curb rampant smuggling of plants and other goods. - Bernama

RM1.2mil in untaxed beer seized in Shah Alam raid
KUALA LUMPUR: Authorities seized more than RM1.2 million worth of untaxed alcoholic beverages and arrested three people, including a foreigner, during a raid on a Shah Alam storage facility yesterday. The operation, codenamed Op Taring Alpha 2, was carried out by the General Operations Force (GOF) with support from its Central Intelligence Unit, the Shah Alam Criminal Investigation Department and Shah Alam City Council. "Two local men, aged 38 and 63, and a 29-year-old Myanmar national were arrested," GOF said in a statement. Seized items included 54,000 cans of 330ml beer (5 per cent alcohol), 2,136 cans of 500ml beer (12.9per cent alcohol) and 1,680 cans of 500ml beer (5per cent alcohol). Also confiscated were a white Hino 10-tonne lorry with a key, a padlock with a key, and four mobile phones of various brands. "The total estimated value of the seizure is RM1,232,966.72," the statement added. The raid was conducted under the Customs Act 1967, Excise Act 1976, Immigration Act 1959/63, and Local Government Act 1974. In addition, MBSA issued a RM2,000 compound for offences under the Trades, Businesses and Industrial Licensing By-Laws 2007.

GOF seizes 6,800 gas cylinders worth RM1m in Pahang raid
KUANTAN: The Southeast Brigade General Operations Force (GOF) has seized 6,834 gas cylinders worth RM1.03 million in a raid at the Tempoyang Industrial Area, Mukim Kuala Lipis. The operation, codenamed Op Taring Bravo 3, took place at around 4.30 pm last Monday (Aug 11). A total of 6,155 empty cylinders and 679 filled cylinders were confiscated, along with a vehicle, a forklift, and gas storage cages. Southeast Brigade GOF commander Datuk Nik Ros Azhan Nik Ab Hamid confirmed the premises lacked a valid licence for storing subsidised and industrial gas. A 41-year-old caretaker was arrested to assist in the investigation. All seized items were handed over to the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry's enforcement unit in Pahang. The case is being investigated under Section 21 of the Control of Supplies Act 1961. In a separate operation in Petaling Jaya, police detained four men and seized misappropriated diesel worth RM602,220. The raids were conducted in Jalan PJU 1/23 early today. Battalion 4 GOF commanding officer Supt Jafri Muhamad said the operation was carried out with the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry. The first raid resulted in the arrest of four men, including two Myanmar nationals, and the seizure of 2,500 litres of diesel. Two lorry heads, a lorry, four IBC-type tanks, a skid tank, two digital suction pumps, and five mobile phones were also confiscated. The second raid uncovered 8,000 litres of diesel, a skid tank, and a suction pump with rubber hoses used for illegal diesel transfers. All suspects and seized items were taken to the Petaling Jaya district police headquarters for further investigation. Pahang GOF seize 6,834 unlicensed LPG tanks at Lipis industrial site
LIPIS: The General Operations Force (GOF) raided a warehouse in the Tempoyang Industrial Area near here for allegedly storing liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) in bulk without a valid licence, seizing goods worth about RM1 million. The operation, codenamed Op Taring Bravo 3, was carried out at about 4.30pm on Aug 11 and led to the arrest of a 41-year-old caretaker. GOF Tenggara Brigade commander Datuk Nik Ros Azhan Nik Ab Hamid said the raid followed a tip-off. "The premises were storing subsidised gas and industrial gas without a valid licence from the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry. "A total of 679 gas cylinders of various brands and weights, along with 6,155 empty tanks, were recovered at the premises. "Besides detaining a suspect, the raiding team also seized gas tanks, vehicles, a forklift, and storage cages used to keep the LPG tanks," he said in a statement today. Nik Ros Azhan said the seized items, valued at RM1.03 million, had been handed over to the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry for further investigation under Section 21 of the Control of Supplies Act 1961, which carries a maximum fine of RM1 million upon conviction. For companies, the fine may be up to RM2 million and, for repeat offences, up to RM5 million.
