'Buckle up!' John Krasinski reveals his advice for People's next Sexiest Man Alive

Perth Now20-05-2025

John Krasinski says the next People's Sexiest Man Alive winner has a "hard crown to wear".
The 45-year-old actor - who was honoured with the annual accolade a year ago - has given some tongue in cheek words of advice for his successor when the special issue returns later this year.
Asked for a message to the next man to get the honour, he told PEOPLE magazine: "Buckle up.
"It is a hard crown to wear, but you'll be all right. Just stay focused. Take a deep breath, you'll get through it."
Meanwhile, John also joke he's "obsessed" with 'Fountain of Youth' director Guy Ritchie, and the British filmmaker's accent.
He said: "Who's not obsessed with Guy? I don't know. I mean, he's got a heck of an accent.
"He's so gregarious. He's got the best vibe. He's the nicest, sweetest, calmest person, and he talks to them like adults, and so he wasn't talking to them like kids.
"He was asking 'em what they wanted to eat and did they want him to cook for them and all that stuff, and they just thought they were in the movie. I think they thought this was their big break."
John fronted People's Sexiest Man Alive issue in November 2024, and at the time he said he experienced a "blackout" of emotions when he was told he'd be receiving the accolade, but he thought it was part of a prank.
Asked his reaction, he told People magazine: 'Just immediate blackout, actually. Zero thoughts. Other than maybe I'm being punked.
"That's not how I wake up, thinking, 'Is this the day that I'll be asked to be Sexiest Man Alive?' And yet it was the day you guys did it. You guys have really raised the bar for me.'
The 'A Quiet Place' filmmaker told how his wife Emily Blunt was "very excited" when she heard the news.
He said: 'There was a lot of joy involved in me telling her.'

Vanessa Kirby is pregnant with her first child

Vanessa Kirby is pregnant. The 38-year-old actress revealed that she is expecting her first child as she showed off a baby bump during a photocall for her new movie 'The Fantastic Four: First Steps' at the Comic Con Experience Mexico on Saturday (31.05.25). Vanessa is said to have got engaged to her partner Paul Rabil last December after he popped the question after two years of dating, according to the New York Post's Page Six column. The pair were first spotted together in New York City in October 2022 and made their romance Instagram official the following year. Paul, the President of the Premier Lacrosse League, captioned a carousel of Instagram images: "from the very minute we first met in des moines, around the world and back, life is far better, more purposeful and more beautiful with you (sic)' Before finding love with Paul, Vanessa dated actor Callum Turner for four years but revealed that she chose to keep the relationship private as people weren't interested in the details. 'The Crown' actress said in 2018: "I keep my relationship super private. "He is just completely wonderful and he's my best friend, so that's ... I guess you can either choose to talk about it or not. If you talk about it, it becomes interesting to people, but if you don't, then it's not." Vanessa portrayed Princess Margaret in the first two seasons of the Netflix drama about the British royal family but feared that she was "finished" after playing a part that seemed over-the-top in comparison to Claire Foy's Queen Elizabeth. She told The Times newspaper: "Claire is the master of subtlety and I'd be sitting across from her in those scenes with tears coming out, smoking cigarettes, my nose running and I'm shouting in her face. "And I remember thinking, 'Oh my God. This could be the most pantomime thing I've ever done. I'm going to be finished after this.'" However, she has since embarked on a career in blockbuster movies - such as 'Mission: Impossible - Fallout' - and explained that she is drawn to playing "strange" characters. Kirby said: "Strange. That's the biggest compliment you could give me: strange. I just love playing strange; the stranger the better.'

Daryl Hall believes that he helped break down racial barriers in music

Daryl Hall believes that he blazed a trail for modern artists. The 78-year-old singer found fame as the lead vocalist in duo Hall and Oates - alongside John Oates - during the 1970s and 1980s and considers himself a "pioneer" for helping to destroy racial barriers in music. Daryl told Classic Pop magazine: "I was one of those pioneers in breaking down those barriers between Black music and white music, whatever that means. "My earliest success was on Black radio in America. I had to break into the white pop world in America. That was secondary, after the fact. So that's where my roots are. That's where my initial success started." The 'Maneater' vocalist added: "I think it had a lot to do with me as a singer and my background. "Being from Philly, a very colourblind area, helped me be able to break those barriers down. Luckily, I figured out how to do it." Daryl is now performing solo as he finds himself embroiled in an legal battle with John after he sued his musical partner in 2023 to prevent him from selling their stake in publishing company Whole Oats Enterprises and admits that he feels less constrained playing alone. He explained: "I really was restricted. When I was (performing) with John on stage, we had this rule that we couldn't play any other work than what we did under the Hall and Oates name. "And it was very restrictive to me, because I love all those solo songs - I wrote most of them - but there was a lot that I had been doing over the years that I couldn't play. I had no outlet. "So now, I'm completely liberated and it's much more fun." Daryl also believes that his soulful singing voice has gotten better with age. The 'Private Eyes' hitmaker explained: "Well, with age and maturity, my voice has mellowed and kind of opened up in a way. I had maybe more high note facility as a young guy. You know, I could sing into the stratosphere. Now, I've lost a little of that, but I've gained other things. "I'm basically a soul singer, and I think my voice is more appropriate sounding to my emotions and my soulful thing than it used to be when I was a young kid. "So, it came from wisdom and experience. And a few whiskeys, too."

Eiza Gonzalez loved working with Guy Richie on Fountain of Youth

Eiza Gonzalez was "like a sponge" on the set of 'Fountain of Youth'. The 35-year-old actress stars alongside the likes of John Krasinski, Natalie Portman, and Domhnall Gleeson in the Guy Ritchie-directed adventure film, and Eiza has revealed that she relished working with the acclaimed filmmaker. The Hollywood star - who previously worked with Guy on 'The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare' - told Collider: "For me, you're always learning from another person - and especially someone as deep and as well-rounded as Guy Richie. "You think you know him and you're like, 'Wow, there are so many layers to you.' Not only as an individual but also as a director. And so I was just so grateful that I got the chance to be in this movie and I'm always sort of coming to set as if it's the first time I've ever worked with this person." Eiza actually feels grateful to play a part in 'Fountain of Youth'. The actress also appreciated being part of the film's star-studded cast. She shared: "I always want to take advantage of the moment I'm on a set, because it's not a given, and want to absorb it like a sponge. And so I did. "I had the most incredible cast to work with. I would go to set to watch them sometimes ... it's fun, you know? These movies are a gift and you have to sort of really enjoy them in the process of it all." Meanwhile, Eiza previously confessed to feeling "distraught" after being overlooked for the role of Catwoman in 'The Batman'. The actress was one of the candidates for the iconic role in the 2022 film, but Zoe Kravitz ultimately landed the coveted part in the Matt Reeves-directed movie. Eiza told "I was so excited when I was like, camera tested for 'The Batman'. And that whole process was shocking and I couldn't believe it because I was especially such a huge fan of Catwoman. And in that moment, I was like, you know, distraught that I didn't get it. "But then I watched it and I was like, wow, I just like, loved it. I loved her. I loved the role. I loved Zoe in it. "I just was so obsessed with what Matt had created and now I'm just like, it's just nice to see people for the right role getting cast in the right role and I just like to watch it as an audience member." Eiza would still love to land a role in a Marvel or a DC movie. But, she added: "I don't see it happening. "I mean, it's like my opportunity has been there and it's not happened for me. So I think it's just not in the cards for Eiza Gonzalez, which is OK. I'm ... I'm OK with it."
