Governors outline economic growth plans in 'Communication Dialogue' session
The Governors reviewed development programmes and competitive advantages unique to each governorate, highlighting efforts to diversify economic activities, harness local resources, and support small and medium enterprises (SMEs). They credited the royal directive to increase funding for the Governorate Development Programme to RO 20 million per governorate under the current five-year plan (2021-2025) for accelerating progress.
Sayyid Ibrahim bin Saeed al Busaidi, Governor of Musandam, noted that the region is witnessing major infrastructure projects, including the Sultan Faisal bin Turki Road (Khasab – Lima – Dibba), which has reached 40% completion. The Khasab Airport project is in its final design stages, while the University of Technology and Applied Sciences campus is undergoing tendering.
Meanwhile, Mohammed bin Suleiman al Kindi, Governor of North Batinah, emphasised the governorate's strategic role in economic growth, facilitated by Sohar Port, Sohar Airport, the Free Zone, and Sohar Industrial City. Several development projects have been implemented across its wilayats, creating opportunities for SMEs and youth initiatives.
Hilal bin Said bin Hamdan al Hajri, Governor of Dakhiliyah, highlighted ongoing road and infrastructure projects, including market and park developments, as well as the beautification of commercial areas. He underscored the importance of community participation, citing the restoration of Harat Al Aqar in Nizwa, led by Omani youth.
Eng. Masoud bin Saeed al Hashimi, Governor of South Batinah, stated that waterfront projects in Barka and Al Musannah are in progress, alongside efforts to enhance popular tourist sites such as springs, castles, and forts. These initiatives aim to boost tourism, encourage SME growth, and create employment opportunities for locals.
The 'Communication Dialogue' sessions serve as an open platform for government officials and citizens to engage in discussions on policies and initiatives, ensuring transparency and public participation in Oman's development.

Majlis A'Shura studies overhaul of GCC Unified Customs Law
Muscat – Over two decades after the current GCC Unified Customs Law came into effect, Majlis A'Shura is reviewing a new draft law aimed at aligning regional customs frameworks with rapid changes in global trade and modern practices. The draft law, referred by the government to the shura, seeks to enhance the efficiency of customs operations, ensure greater transparency and support economic integration among GCC states. It includes amendments such as rephrasing chapter titles, updating or repealing outdated definitions, and introducing new articles to address emerging requirements in customs work. The Economic and Financial Committee of the shura hosted officials of Royal Oman Police and Ministry of Finance on Tuesday to discuss the draft. Discussions focused on facilitating smoother trade flows at both regional and international levels, in line with GCC efforts to harmonise customs procedures and regulations. Ahmed Said al Sharqi, Chairman of the committee, welcomed the officials and noted that their direct role in implementing customs law on the ground made their participation vital. He said the exchange of views and field insights would assist the committee in forming a comprehensive and well-informed opinion on the draft. During the meeting, members reviewed the observations and inputs presented by the officials. Their expertise, drawn from practical experience, covered several provisions of the draft, including operational procedures and enforcement mechanisms. According to the committee, the aim is to strengthen the legal framework that empowers competent authorities to carry out their duties more effectively across the GCC. The committee underscored the fact that the draft marks an important reform step, reflecting the need to update customs laws in light of rapid changes in international trade and increasing role of digital systems in customs operations.

Final Preparations Underway for the upcoming Launch of the Hospitality Training Center at Hawana Salalah
Pioneering initiative by Muriya in collaboration with the Ministry of Labour, Omran Group, and Oman Tourism College to empower Omani youth for careers in hospitality Dhofar Governorate, Sultanate of Oman – 17 August 2025 – Final preparations are underway for the launch of the new Hospitality Training Center at Hawana Salalah, a flagship initiative spearheaded by Muriya, in partnership with the Ministry of Labour, Omran Group, and Oman Tourism College. Set within Oman's largest fully integrated tourism destination, Hawana Salalah by Orascom Development and Omran Group, the new center aims to equip young Omanis with world-class skills and practical training that will enable them to succeed in the dynamic hospitality sector. Scheduled to open its doors in the coming weeks, the center is in the final stages of development, with training facilities and specialized curricula nearing completion. Soon, 100 carefully selected young Omanis will embark on an intensive hands-on program covering front office operations and culinary arts, followed by direct job placements at Hawana Salalah's world-class hotels and resorts. Stretching across 13.6 kilometers of pristine coastline in Dhofar, Hawana Salalah is Oman's largest integrated tourism destination. It features over 2,000 hotel rooms, a state-of-the-art marina with more than 170 berths, the first waterpark of its kind in Salalah, vibrant waterfront communities, branded residences, and hosts year-round international events including IRONMAN 70.3, the SOCCA World Cup, and the IGFA Fishing Championship. This unique offering positions Hawana Salalah as a catalyst for economic diversification, modern lifestyle development, and community empowerment. Commenting on the initiative, H.E. Dr. Mahad Said Baawain, Minister of Labour in the Sultanate of Oman, said: 'This initiative is a successful example of what can be achieved through strong collaboration between the public and private sectors. Oman pavilion at Expo 2025 Oska captivates thousands everyday
Muscat – Oman's pavilion at World Expo 2025 in Osaka, Japan has witnessed overwhelming response from international visitors since its opening on April 13 with over 5,000 to 6,000 people visiting daily. Located in the 'Saving Lives' zone of the expo, which is dedicated to sustainability, the pavilion presents Oman through the theme 'Water, Land and People'. The design connects these core elements that define Oman's identity and sustainable future with a blend of audiovisual storytelling and sensory experiences. Speaking to Muscat Daily from Japan, Amjad Nasser al Jadidi, Operations Manager of Oman's pavilion, said, 'The response has been incredible. The curiosity and queues never stop; visitors are genuinely curious about Oman beyond the stereotypical image of deserts and oil.' The pavilion features a captivating pre-show and main audiovisual experience that connects the core elements of water, land and people through powerful storytelling. Visitors then explore 'Water Corridor', a glass-covered simulation of Oman's traditional irrigation system (aflaj) and a wadi area, an open-air space reflecting the sultanate's natural landscapes. The sensory experience continues with scented bubbles infused with frankincense, locally curated Omani music and a pavilion-exclusive café menu. 'Our café offers signature drinks inspired by Omani flavours like cardamom, rose and clove,' said Jadidi. 'One unique item – Omani Halwa Mochi – merges Japanese and Omani traditions.' Screens throughout the pavilion share rich content on Oman's culture, tourism and investment opportunities. According to Jadidi, many Japanese visitors are surprised to learn about Oman's lush green mountains, pristine beaches and diverse culinary traditions. 'We're achieving our goal of reshaping perceptions and promoting the true essence of Oman. With its immersive design and cultural fusion, the pavilion is not only winning praise but also making lasting impressions of Oman on the global map.'
