Referee Chiffi Completely Loses Control Of Inter Milan 2-1 Udinese Serie A Clash
Referee Daniele Chiffi has come under fire for his handling of yesterday's Serie A clash between Inter Milan and Udinese.
Today's print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews, argue that the referee's leniency led to the match getting out of control.

Referee Daniele Chiffi evidently wanted to let the players get physical yesterday.
However, in the second half that started to really become a problem.
The tempo of the match raised significantly in the closing stages. Once Udinese found a goal, they really pushed for the equalizer.
And the players' emotionally naturally began to run very high.

Referee Daniele Chiffi failed to book Udinese midfielder Martin Payero for a late tackle on Nicolo Barella that was worthy of a yellow, in the view of the Corriere.
Then, the official did not even caution Henrikh Mkhitaryan for a reckless overhead kick that made contact with the head of Friulani Thomas Kristensen.

These incidents only upped the ante in terms of the precedent for physicality.
Late in the match, Inter midfielder Kristjan Asllani dragged down Udinese midfielder Simone Pafundi.
However, Chiffi waved play on, signalling the advantage to Udinese. It was not entirely clear that he would even book Asllani for what seemed like a fairly blatant yellow card offense.
Then, at the end of that sequence, Inter forward Joaquin Correa went down after tussling for the ball with Udinese defender Jaka Bijol.
Correa felt that Bijol was jumping on his back. But that's not how Chiffi saw it.
In the end, Chiffi did finally give Asllani his yellow card. And the sequence ended in a corner for Udinese.

Finally, Inter coach Simone Inzaghi was the one to lose his temper. The Nerazzurri coach received a straight red card for his vehement protestations.
But in truth, the Corriere argue, Chiffi had lost control long before then.
