Referee Chiffi Completely Loses Control Of Inter Milan 2-1 Udinese Serie A Clash
Referee Daniele Chiffi has come under fire for his handling of yesterday's Serie A clash between Inter Milan and Udinese.
Today's print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews, argue that the referee's leniency led to the match getting out of control.

Referee Daniele Chiffi evidently wanted to let the players get physical yesterday.
However, in the second half that started to really become a problem.
The tempo of the match raised significantly in the closing stages. Once Udinese found a goal, they really pushed for the equalizer.
And the players' emotionally naturally began to run very high.

Referee Daniele Chiffi failed to book Udinese midfielder Martin Payero for a late tackle on Nicolo Barella that was worthy of a yellow, in the view of the Corriere.
Then, the official did not even caution Henrikh Mkhitaryan for a reckless overhead kick that made contact with the head of Friulani Thomas Kristensen.

These incidents only upped the ante in terms of the precedent for physicality.
Late in the match, Inter midfielder Kristjan Asllani dragged down Udinese midfielder Simone Pafundi.
However, Chiffi waved play on, signalling the advantage to Udinese. It was not entirely clear that he would even book Asllani for what seemed like a fairly blatant yellow card offense.
Then, at the end of that sequence, Inter forward Joaquin Correa went down after tussling for the ball with Udinese defender Jaka Bijol.
Correa felt that Bijol was jumping on his back. But that's not how Chiffi saw it.
In the end, Chiffi did finally give Asllani his yellow card. And the sequence ended in a corner for Udinese.

Finally, Inter coach Simone Inzaghi was the one to lose his temper. The Nerazzurri coach received a straight red card for his vehement protestations.
But in truth, the Corriere argue, Chiffi had lost control long before then.

Video: De Bruyne on ‘crazy' Napoli fans and ‘ambitious' team

Kevin De Bruyne assures Napoli 'are ambitious and want to win, so it was a really nice project to come into' and he already realised the fans are 'a bit crazy.' The midfielder completed the transfer this week and was a free agent after his contract with Manchester City was allowed to run down. MANCHESTER, ENGLAND – MAY 02: Kevin De Bruyne of Manchester City celebrates scoring his team's first goal during the Premier League match between Manchester City FC and Wolverhampton Wanderers FC at Etihad Stadium on May 02, 2025 in Manchester, England. (Photo by) 'I'm a winner, I want to win games,' confessed De Bruyne. 'I've always been like this, I hate losing.' He had plenty of alternatives, including more lucrative ones in MLS or Saudi Arabia, but the combination of Serie A football and the lifestyle in Naples made it an easy decision. 'The team won the Scudetto last year, so they are in the Champions League. I'm hopeful that we can create something good for the future together. 'The team wants to win, they are ambitious, it looks like a really good team put together, so for me it was a really nice project to come into and hopefully I can help the team get their ambitions through.' (Photo by) Napoli fans already made their presence felt when he arrived for his medical, even if it was in Rome rather than Naples. Advertisement 'I remember it was really loud. The supporters were a bit crazy! But that's good, I think I understand a little bit how Naples works, how the city is behind the team, and this is also something I wanted to come into. 'At the beginning, maybe I need to adapt a little bit, but if you have so many people behind the team, it's going to be a nice atmosphere for us to deliver.' De Bruyne will be working with fellow Belgium international Romelu Lukaku, while ex-Napoli star Dries Mertens confessed he also helped pave the way for this move. 'I've known Romelu since I was 13 years old. He spoke a lot of good words about the team, the city, so I am excited to do good things together. Advertisement 'Romelu and Dries obviously know the city really well, they explained a little bit how it works, how the people are. I understand a bit of Italian, obviously I need to get used to it and learn more. 'I'm excited, it is something that is very new for me, I lived in England for 10 years, but I think it is going to be a nice experience for me, for my family, and I'm looking forward to it.' Inter Milan's Mehdi Taremi stuck in Iran and will miss Club World Cup

MILAN (AP) — Inter Milan forward Mehdi Taremi will not be able to join his teammates at the Club World Cup in the United States as he is stuck in Tehran amid the escalating conflict between Iran and Israel. Flights from all Iranian airports have been grounded following an exchange of military strikes between Iran and Israel over the last two days. Advertisement That meant the Iran international was unable to take his scheduled flight on Saturday to join his Inter teammates in Los Angeles. Taremi will miss Inter's opening match against Monterrey on Wednesday and Italian media reports the 32-year-old will not feature in the other matches either regardless of whether Iranian airspace reopens.
