Former CJIs DY Chandrachud, JS Kehar to interact with JPC on One Nation One Poll on July 11
New Delhi [India], June 26 (ANI): The Joint Committee on the Constitution (One Hundred and Twenty-Ninth Amendment) Bill, 2024, will meet on July 11, 2025, at Parliament House Annexe in New Delhi, featuring interactions with legal experts and former officials.

Members are informed that the next sitting of the Joint Committee on the Constitution (One Hundred and Twenty-Ninth Amendment) Bill, 2024 and the Union Territories Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2024, will now be held on July 11.
The agenda of the Meeting is interaction with Justice JS Kehar, former Chief Justice of India, on the said Bills. Interaction with Justice DY Chandrachud, former Chief Justice of India, on the said Bills.
Interaction with Dr EM Sudarsana Natchiappan, former Rajya Sabha Member, former Chairman of the Standing Committee on Personnel, Public Grievances, Law and Justice and Senior Advocate on the said Bills.
Interaction with Dr Veerappa Moily, former Chief Minister of Karnataka, former Union Minister, former Chairman, 2nd Administrative Reforms Committee and former Chairman, Parliamentary Committee on Finance on the said Bills.
Earlier, Chairperson of JPC, ONOE, PP Chaudhary, held discussions with various stakeholders in five states, Maharashtra, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh (Union Territory) over the issue of One Nation One Election. Meetings were held in Delhi, during which we had interactions with former CJIs UU Lalit, Ranjan Gogoi, former chief justices of various high courts and others.
Earlier, while speaking to ANI exclusively, PP Choudhary said, The committee believes that it should visit all states and hear their opinions, which is why the tour is being organised.
Reacting to the website launch, PP Chaudhary told ANI earlier that there should be 'transparency' and the entire Committee has agreed on this. 'There should be transparency. The entire Committee has agreed that we must keep transparency. The website will facilitate opinions from all the stakeholders. The committee took decisions on two major things, the advertisement will be printed in all languages so that all stakeholders can give their opinions.'
'Secondly, the website will facilitate inputs from all stakeholders... This is being examined by the Secretary General... The development of technology is taking time to ensure the website doesn't crash... The website will be launched soon with a QR code facility. Suggestions will be collected, and Parliamentarians will review them,' he added.
He further remarked that everyone has different opinions. 'There could be different opinions in the Committee too...One time will come when all the members will agree to it because all the leaders think for the nation and will agree over it for the nation's interest,' he said. (ANI)

Haryana: Speaker's brother is Haryana state election commissioner
Former Indian revenue service (IRS) officer, Devinder Singh Kalyan was on Thursday appointed as the state election commissioner, Haryana, by the governor on the recommendation of the state government. Kalyan is the brother of BJP MLA from Gharaunda and Haryana vidhan sabha speaker, Harvinder Kalyan, who retired from the service on May 31. Legal experts say that appointment of Kalyan, a blood relation of a ruling BJP politician, clearly amounted to conflict of interest. Former Haryana advocate general, Mohan Jain said that the appointment of the real brother of the Haryana assembly speaker as state election commissioner is against public interest. 'The newly-appointed state election commissioner will not be able to do justice to his job. Since the SEC is mandated under the Constitution to prepare electoral rolls and conduct elections of panchayats and municipal bodies in which all the political parties are involved, the appointment of a politically connected person as SEC will certainly raise questions of fairness and transparency in the conduct of polls. Fundamentally, Devender Kalyan is in a way connected with the ruling party,'' said Jain, a former additional solicitor general. An IRS officer from the income tax stream, Devinder Kalyan had in April 2023 managed to get a posting in the Haryana government as principal secretary, excise and taxation, a cadre post of IAS officers. Following his deputation to the state government, Kalyan was first posted as advisor in state finance department in February 2023. The state government had earlier recommended Kalyan's name for chairman of State Environment Impact Assessment Authority (SEIAA), Haryana to the Union ministry of environment, forest and climate change (MoEFCC). The central ministry however rejected his name stating Devinder Singh Kalyan does not meet the eligibility requirements for the Environment Impact Assessment (ElA) notification of 2006.

Poll body to go door-to-door nationwide to remove illegal migrants from voter list
The Election Commission of India (ECI) will now conduct door-to-door verification of voter lists across the country, starting with Bihar. This intensive voter list survey aims to ensure the integrity of electoral rolls by identifying and removing the names of illegal migrants and ineligible Bihar, the first state to undergo this exercise, voters who were enroled in the 2003 voter list will not be required to submit any documents. This group includes around 5 crore individuals. However, those who enroled after 2003 will have to submit valid documents to prove their identity and eligibility. In some other states, the cut-off year will be the 2004 voter verification is part of a special intensive revision that the ECI is launching in six states: Bihar, Assam, Kerala, Puducherry, Tamil Nadu, and West Bengal, all of which are scheduled to hold Assembly elections either this year or in early 2026. While Bihar goes to the polls in October-November 2025, the remaining states are set for elections in March-April 2026. The opposition parties have raised concerns about political bias in this move, while the Commission maintains that it is a constitutional responsibility to ensure fair and clean ECI has assured that all steps taken will strictly follow the legal framework laid down in Article 326 of the Constitution and Section 16 of the Representation of the People Act, 1950.
