Bournemouth stroll past Everton in Premier League friendly
Goals from Philip Billing, Dango Outtara and Daniel Adu-Adjei sealed a comfortable win for Andoni Iraola's Bournemouth side in a game played in sweltering conditions.
After a low-key first half, Billing fired Bournemouth into the lead in the 55th minute, gliding away from his marker at the edge of the area before unleashing a ferocious shot that flew past Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford.
England international Pickford was beaten again four minutes later after a move that began when Outtara surged clear down the left flank.
Everton defender Nathan Patterson looked to have covered the danger, but a poor touch allowed Burkina Faso international Outtara to hammer a shot high into the net past Pickford's near post.
Adu-Adjei made it 3-0 to the Cherries in the 69th minute, pouncing on an underhit backpass from Jake O'Brien to coolly finish past Pickford.
The four-team Premier League-backed tournament continues later Saturday with Manchester United taking on West Ham at the same venue.--AFP

Newcastle sign Germany defender Thiaw from AC Milan
LONDON: Germany international defender Malick Thiaw on Tuesday completed a permanent move to Premier League club Newcastle from AC Milan. The 24-year-old centre-back agreed a long-term deal for an undisclosed fee reported to be worth an initial 35 million euros (US$40 million). "I'm really excited to join this massive club. I can't wait to start training and to get to know my new teammates and all the staff," said Thiaw. "The gaffer (Eddie Howe) showed me his vision and what he wants to do with me as a player and the club itself, which is really exciting. "I think Newcastle speaks for itself. Thiaw – capped three times for Germany – joined AC Milan from Schalke 04 in 2022 and made 85 appearances in all competitions during his three years at the Serie A club. He becomes Newcastle's third summer signing after Nottingham Forest winger Anthony Elanga and Southampton goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale. "We're really pleased to have Malick on board," said manager Howe. "He's a player I've admired for a long time and somebody who will add real quality to our defensive options. "Malick is still young but brings valuable experience of Champions League football, as well as playing in the Bundesliga and Serie A, which is a major positive for us as we return to Europe this season." Coote had been sacked by English soccer referees' body PGMOL after a video, recorded in July 2020, circulated on social media showing the official allegedly abusing Klopp and after a full investigation, his position was deemed untenable. The 43-year-old was charged by the FA in June and an independent Regulatory Commission has now imposed an eight-week suspension and mandatory face-to-face education programme on him. Coote had admitted the charge. "It was alleged that contrary to FA Rule E3.1 the referee acted in an improper manner and/or used abusive and/or insulting words about Jurgen Klopp in a video that was recorded around July 2020 and appeared on social media in November 2024," the FA said. "It was also alleged that his actions constitute an 'Aggravated Breach', which is defined in FA Rule E3.2, as they included a reference – whether express or implied – to nationality." Europe's soccer governing body also said Coote was banned from any UEFA refereeing activity until June 2026. Coote has apologised for his actions. The Sun also published a video which the newspaper said showed Coote appearing to snort white powder during his time working as a match official at Euro 2024.
