Qatar Tourism, through the Service Excellence Academy, has concluded the first edition of the 'Junior Tourism Guidance Program – Summer Camp', which aims to inspire Qatari youth through interactive tourism activities at Qatar Museums. Two groups of different ages participated in the camp, reflecting Qatar Tourism's ongoing commitment to skills development and tourism awareness among the local community, and the first batch of young tour guides were honored on the final day at the National Museum of Qatar in the presence of parents and partners. Commenting on the programme, Omar Abdulrahman Al Jaber, Head of Tourism Development at Qatar Tourism, said: 'Qatar Tourism is committed to providing more programs and initiatives that serve our local community through the Service Excellence Academy. Through this camp, children have learned valuable skills such as storytelling, teamwork, and discovering Qatar's rich heritage. These skills are not only tools for tourism guidance, but they are also keys to self-confidence and successful communication for our children from the next generation of future tourism ambassadors to encourage our children, as you may be a tour guide or an expert in the tourism industry who carries Qatar's message to the world.' The program has seen close cooperation with Qatar Museums, with the National Museum of Qatar hosting the closing ceremony, providing a learning space and organizing educational guided tours for children. The 3-2-1 Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum provided the activity area during the first two days of the program, while the MIA education team worked with Qatar Tourism to deliver an innovative learning experience through an 'escape room.' Other teams from Qatar Museums also coordinated logistical aspects, such as securing galleries, booking sites, and ensuring that the program did not conflict with other events. On the other hand, the Cultural Village Foundation (Katara) has provided significant support to the program by providing its cultural and educational facilities, such as the Thuraya Planetarium, the Opera House, and the Drama Theater, which has added cultural value to the experience. Doha Bus also contributed to the enrichment of the third day of the program, by providing a bus through which children had the opportunity to learn about the work of the tour guide and see the most prominent landmarks of Doha. The program was part of Qatar Tourism's ongoing efforts to implement local initiatives targeting the Qatari community, specifically children and parents, where young participants had the opportunity to explore the tourism sector from an innovative educational and entertainment perspective.
Qatar Tourism is committed to continuing to organize more initiatives and programs in the future in response to the growing demand and interest from the local community.

Qatar's air transport sector sees steady growth in July 2025

Doha, Qatar: Qatar's aviation industry experienced a positive momentum in July 2025, with preliminary statistics revealed by Qatar Civil Aviation Authority (QCAA) yesterday showing a healthy upward trend in aircraft movements, passenger traffic, and cargo volumes compared to the same month last year. The report recorded 24,233 aircraft movements in July 2025, up from 24,179 in July 2024, which is a modest 0.2 percent increase. While the growth may seem slight, aviation experts say it reflects a stable operational environment despite global challenges. Passenger numbers soared from 4.742 million in July 2024 to 4.811 million this year, a 1.4 percent increase. The QCAA data aligns with Qatar Tourism's recent announcement that the country welcomed 2.6 million visitors in the first half of 2025, suggesting a strong year for the nation's hospitality and events sectors. Meanwhile, air cargo and mail also showed resilience, rising from 222,415 tons in July 2024 to 224,144 tons this year, a 0.8 percent increase. Khamis Abdullah Alkhelaifi, Ground Instructor at International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), told The Peninsula that the numbers are a positive sign of recovery and diversification. 'We are witnessing consistent growth across all major indicators,' he said. 'The passenger increase is especially encouraging because it suggests not only tourism demand but also stronger transit traffic through Hamad International Airport, which is one of the busiest hubs in the world.' The summer months in Qatar traditionally bring a spike in transit passengers, as the country serves as a major connection point between Asia, Europe, and Africa. The recent upgrades at Hamad International Airport, including expanded lounges, art installations, and new retail offerings, have bolstered its appeal. 'Qatar isn't just a stopover anymore,' Alkhelaifi noted. 'The marketing push from Qatar Tourism, major events such as international sports tournaments, and cultural festivals mean more people are choosing to stay a few days instead of catching the next flight out.' Cargo growth, though smaller in percentage terms, also points to Qatar's expanding role in regional trade. The country has invested heavily in modernising logistics facilities, enabling faster handling and distribution of goods. 'In the cargo sector, efficiency and reliability are as important as speed. 'Qatar's logistics infrastructure now competes with the best in the region, and that's attracting more high-value shipments,' the aviation expert explained. With the year more than halfway through, Qatar's aviation sector appears set for a strong finish in 2025. If current trends continue, analysts predict a year-on-year increase in total passengers, bolstered by the winter tourism season and the country's strategic efforts to brand itself as a premium destination. 'In aviation, sustaining momentum is key, and Qatar has found its stride,' he added. © Dar Al Sharq Press, Printing and Distribution. All Rights Reserved. Provided by SyndiGate Media Inc. (

Tourism sector contributes $15bln to Qatar's GDP in 2024: Qatar Tourism

Earlier this year, Qatar Tourism announced that the tourism sector as a whole contributed QR55 billion to the country's GDP in 2024, accounting for an estimated 8% of the total economy, a 14 percent increase compared to 2023. This demonstrates clear progress towards the Tourism Strategy 2030 target of raising the sector's contribution to 10-12 percent of GDP. Qatar's strong tourism performance is the result of a robust strategy led by Qatar Tourism and supported by its promotional arm, Visit Qatar. In the first half of the year, Visit Qatar launched several regional and global media campaigns to attract visitors from key target markets. This included the recent 'Moments Made for You' campaign, which highlights the range of experiences available during the summer season and invites visitors from GCC countries and beyond to discover Qatar. Visit Qatar also released a promotional film featuring English footballer David Beckham, showcasing the country's diverse tourism offerings, from heritage and culture to modern attractions and natural sites. Additionally, Visit Qatar expanded its stopover promotion campaigns, focusing on priority markets including the United Kingdom, United States of America, South Africa, China and Australia. These campaigns coincided with major events such as the Qatar Toy Festival, which recently completed its third edition, attracting over 130,000 visitors, a 12% increase from the previous year. Other notable events included the Doha Jewellery and Watches Exhibition 2025, Ras Abrouq, Sealine Season, Shop Qatar, and Qatar International Food Festival, alongside key initiatives such as Scoop on the Sea and the ongoing whale shark tours. Engineer Abdulaziz Ali Al-Mawlawi, Chief Executive Officer of Visit Qatar, said: 'Our success in the first half of 2025 demonstrates sustained momentum and growing confidence from regional and global markets in Qatar's tourism offerings. We have attracted more visitors through a distinctive combination of major events, international campaigns, and innovative tourism products that cater to a wide range of interests. We will continue to invest in these areas and introduce initiatives that strengthen Qatar's position as a global destination blending authenticity with modernity, providing residents and visitors with a world-class experience year-round.' Qatar Tourism and Visit Qatar are currently preparing to host major events and launch key initiatives in the second half of 2025. The 2025/2026 cruise season will launch in November 2025, building on the success of the previous season, which saw 87 cruise ships dock in Qatar, a 19% increase from the year before, and welcomed over 360,000 visitors, up 4% from the prior season. The second half of the year will also feature the inaugural T100 Triathlon World Championship finals in Doha, held in partnership with the Professional Triathletes Organisation. Other highlights include the FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2025, the F1 Qatar Airways Qatar Grand Prix 2025, the third Qatar Tourism Awards, the unveiling of the Michelin Guide Doha 2026, along with several other events to be announced soon. © Copyright Qatar Tribune.
