Odisha CM pays tribute to victim of Pahalgam attack, announces assistance
Bhubaneswar, Apr 24 (UNI) Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Thursday announced financial assistance of Rs 20 lakh for the family of Prashant Satpathy, who was killed in the terrorist attack at Pahalgam on April 22.
The Chief Minister visited Ishani village in Balasore district to pay tribute to the departed soul and offered condolences to the bereaved family.
Majhi also announced a government job for Prashant Satpathy's widow and assured her of full support for the education of their nine-year-old son.
Prashant, who was working as an accountant at the Central Institute of Plastic Engineering and Technology (CIPET) in Bampada, was on a holiday trip to Jammu & Kashmir with his wife and son when he was killed by terrorists on Tuesday, along with 27 others.
Majhi condemned the attack as "cowardly" and expressed solidarity with the family, reaffirming the state government's commitment to support them during this difficult time.
He strongly denounced the terrorist attack on tourists in Pahalgam, located in South Kashmir's Anantnag district, describing it as a most heinous and barbaric act.

India's agri sector transformed by five-fold budget surge over 11 years: Govt
India's agricultural sector has undergone a "profound transformation" over the past 11 years through various government schemes and increased budgetary allocations, empowering farmers to lead the nation from food security to global food leadership , the government said on Saturday. The transformation has focused on inclusivity by supporting small farmers, women-led groups and allied sectors while positioning India as a global agricultural leader, according to an official statement. "Over the past eleven years, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, India's agricultural sector has undergone a profound transformation, rooted in the philosophy of Beej Se Bazaar Tak (seed to market)," the government said. Budget estimates for the Department of Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare have risen from Rs 27,663 crore in 2013-14 to Rs 1,37,664.35 crore in 2024-25, an increase of nearly five times, it added. The government has also increased minimum support prices (MSP) significantly. MSP for wheat rose from Rs 1,400 per quintal in 2013-14 to Rs 2,425 per quintal in 2024-25, while paddy prices increased from Rs 1,310 per quintal in 2013-14 to Rs 2,369 per quintal in 2025-26. Under the PM-KISAN scheme launched in February 2019, the government has disbursed Rs 3.7 lakh crore to more than 110 million farmers. The Kisan Credit Card scheme has provided about Rs 10 lakh crore in credit to 7.71 crore farmers. Procurement data shows improvement across crops. Kharif crop procurement totalled 787.1 million tonnes between FY15 and FY25 compared to 467.9 million tonnes in the previous decade from 2004-05 to 2013-14. Pulses procurement at MSP increased significantly from 1,52,000 tonnes during 2009-2014 to 8.3 million tonnes during 2020-2025, while oilseeds procurement at MSP increased multifold over the past 11 years. The government's approach has focused on modern irrigation, credit access, digital marketplaces and agri-tech innovations while reviving traditional practices like millet cultivation and natural farming. Allied sectors, including dairy and fisheries, are also expanding. "As India enters Amrit Kaal, its empowered farmers stand ready to lead the nation from food security to global food leadership," the statement said.

Viral Video Sparks Global Attention On June 6, a resident of Gaza named Mohammed Jawad uploaded a video on X wherein he is giving his daughter, Rafif, a packet of Parle-G, her favourite biscuit. In the caption, Jawad had written, "After a long wait, I finally got Rafif her favourite biscuits today. Even though the price jumped from €1.5 to over €24, I just couldn't deny Rafif her favourite treat." The video, which showed the outrageous price tag of the otherwise low-priced biscuit, went viral, leaving viewers who were used to Parle-G's usual Rs 100 price point in foreign markets speechless. June 1, 2025 Food Scarcity Drives Price Surge The Gaza conflict has resulted in critical food shortages, with prices of common items such as Parle-G taking a dramatic rise. Normally costing Rs 100 for a packet worldwide, the biscuit is now available for up to Rs 2,342 in Gaza because of low availability and broken import channels. The crisis has rendered even staple items scarce, worsening the plight of civilians in the conflict area. Online Reactions And Calls For Aid The clip elicited mass reactions on X, with people shocked and empathising. A user named India's External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, pleading, "The baby is having India's favourite biscuit. May we send more Parle-G to Palestine? IPL night heist: Interstate gang stole 700m metro cable in Ahmedabad; 4 of 13 arrested
AHMEDABAD: The Gandhinagar Local Crime Branch successfully apprehended four men for their alleged involvement in a string of metro cable thefts across multiple states in India. This crucial operation resolved 35 cases of cable theft and shed light on the nefarious activities of this notorious group. The actions came in the wake of three thefts on the metro train routes between Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar in a fortnight. During the early hours of June 2, 2025, amidst an IPL match, the gang members cut and removed 700 metres of valuable cable near the Old Koba Metro Station by Koba Circle, amounting to a loss of Rs 17.85 lakh. The investigative teams analysed CCTV footage from the Netram Project in Gandhinagar, leading to the identification of two vehicles linked to the crime. Subsequent questioning of the vehicle owners and suspects, combined with information obtained from technical surveillance and sources, pointed towards a rented property in Kalol where the stolen cable was concealed. A raid on the Kalol property uncovered the gang members in the act of stripping the stolen cable. Authorities seized a significant amount of stolen property, including 368.790 kilograms of copper wire valued at Rs 2.95 lakh and 130.210 kilograms of plastic cover pieces. In total, the recovered metro cable property amounted to Rs 2.96 lakh, with additional items such as a car and mobile phones bringing the total value of recovered property to Rs 8.32 lakh. Further interrogation and technical analysis revealed the involvement of 13 individuals in the metro cable theft scheme. The gang members admitted to multiple thefts in different locations, including near the Shahpur Metro Station in Ahmedabad and the Gyaspur Metro Station in Vejalpur, Ahmedabad. The arrested gang members include Musharraf Mulejat, 32, Rashid Dhobi, 21, Rashid Ansari, 45, and Irshad Malik, 33, all residents of Bagpat in Uttar Pradesh. The absconding gang members are Shehzad Amruddin Malik, Aamir Akbar Malik, Arif Babu Malik, Ikhlakh Iqbal Malik, Imran Malik, Arif Rafiq, Sonu Babu Kasar, Arshad Asgar Malik, Bilal Qureshi, Raja Qureshi, and Masoom Yasin Malik. This relentless gang employed sophisticated tactics in each operation, including reconnaissance of metro routes, climbing metro pillars to cut cables, and transporting stolen goods for sale in different cities. Modus Operandi The gang operated by travelling to cities with active metro lines. They stayed in hotels near railway stations and rented large four-wheel-drive cars for self-driving, often through services like Just Dial. After securing a vehicle, they contacted local brokers to rent a house to hide stolen goods. Before a theft, they conducted reconnaissance of metro routes using their rented car. Their methods for reaching cables included using ropes and support from large trees near metro bridge pillars or climbing walls adjacent to metro pillars. They then cut metro cables with large cutters. Once stolen, the cables were taken to the rented house. There, they stripped the plastic and rubber coverings to extract the copper wires. These copper wires were then packaged and shipped by train from Ahmedabad Kalupur Railway Station to Delhi for sale.
