Mamelodi Sundowns, one of Africa's wealthiest football clubs, boasts a squad valued at R744 million, with Lucas Ribeiro leading at R51.54 million, while star keeper Ronwen Williams is not among the top 10, and the team recently earned R228 million from the FIFA Club World Cup. It's no secret that Mamelodi Sundowns are one of the richest football clubs on the continent, but their actual squad value makes for some interesting reading.
For example, valued at R18.55 million according to transfermarkt.us, star goalkeeper Ronwen Williams doesn't crack the top-15 most valuable players in the Sundowns squad.
Top of the list in terms of market value is striker Lucas Ribeiro. The Brazilian is apparently worth a whopping R51.54 million.
Cape Town-born Iqraam Rayners comes in at number two with a market value of R49.48 million. The 29-year-old forward, however, is the most valuable South African in the star-studded Sundowns lineup.

Orlando Pirates transfer news: Mayele, Basadien, Mofokeng

Orlando Pirates have been prolific this offseason, signing eleven solidified stars, including Oswin Appollis and Tshepang Moremi. However, two high-profile names have remained out of reach, and it appears the ship has sailed as Fiston Mayele and Fawaaz Basadien near exits elsewhere. The latter is heavily linked with Mamelodi Sundowns and was absent for Stellenbosch's training session today, further fuelling speculation of a move to Pretoria. Regarding Mayele, the Pyramids striker is reportedly desperate for an exit, albeit leading his side to CAF Champions League glory – the first time in the club's history. 'I asked Pyramids officials about the future of Congolese striker Fiston Mayele, and they told me he's a strong candidate to leave,' Egyptian football journalist Ahmed Shobeir. 'The player received a very lucrative offer from Saudi Arabia and is close to departing.' 'Honestly, I was very surprised and asked them how they could agree to let him go when he's one of the team's top stars and scorers. They told me the player is determined to leave after receiving the offer from Saudi Arabia and won't be with the team next season.' Mofokeng remains a mystery A thick cloud of uncertainty is hovering of Orlando Pirates regarding the future of Relebohile Mofokeng, who has several suitors vying for his services, including PSV, Al Ahly, and FC Cincinnati. What's certain is that Mofokeng's father, Sechaba, wants his son to leave Orlando Pirates this offseason. 'My biggest wish is to see Rele overseas in 2025/2026. I'm praying every day. I don't want to see him in the Betway Premiership again this season. I know God will answer my prayers,' Sechaba said. '[Whether it's in] Spain, England, Netherlands, France, Denmark, Switzerland — Rele can play. I believe that with all my heart. Take him to Barcelona? He can play. PSG? He can play. Any country. I'll be happy — but not Saudi Arabia,' he added. 'Not yet. He's still young. He needs to compete in UEFA competitions. If he goes to Saudi now, he won't experience that. Yes, he'd be rich — but happiness is more important. You can have all the money in the world, but if you're not happy, it's worthless.' Orlando Pirates lead the charge as transfer window sparks ambition

SIPHO Mbule will want to hit the ground running at Orlando Pirates as he gets another shot at redemption. | BackpagePix Image: BackpagePix The 2025/26 transfer window has brought with it plenty of intriguing moves, with some clubs showing real intent to bounce back with renewed determination. Others, however, have opted for continuity, making minimal changes. Mamelodi Sundowns will once again be the team to beat heading into the new campaign. With a noticeable gap still existing between them and the chasing pack, the question remains whether they can maintain their high standards. Having dominated the league for the past eight seasons, they've built a reputation for consistency — a trait that will once again be central to their ambitions. That said, the new season presents fresh challenges, and several clubs have been noticeably more active than others in the market. All eyes will be on how these clubs fare, and here we take a look at the three most active sides in the current window and how they're positioned compared to last season. Video Player is loading. Their aggressive approach signals a clear intention to pick up where they left off last season and continue their pursuit of toppling Sundowns. Despite a solid campaign — perhaps their best in recent years — Pirates still fell short of matching the Brazilians' pace towards the end of the season. However, with the right chemistry, this might be the season they mount a serious challenge. Sipho Mbule stands out as a major acquisition. His creativity in central midfield addresses a gap Pirates often struggled with, particularly against teams that sat back and defended deep. This struggle was evident in their four draws and five losses, compared to Sundowns' superior record of just one draw and two fewer defeats. Kaizer Chiefs Top signing so far: Thabiso Monyane Still on the lookout for further reinforcements before the window closes, Amakhosi have been among the busier teams this off-season. Fresh off their recent encounters with top Dutch opposition, the team enters the new campaign with a fresh mindset and renewed energy, bolstered by several important signings. One of the key issues last season was the lack of defensive consistency, not helped by poorly timed injuries. Thabiso Monyane has already impressed in the limited game time he's had. Widely regarded as one of the country's brightest prospects, Monyane could be instrumental in stabilising the right-back position — provided he remains injury-free. Sekhukhune United Top signing so far: Miguel Timm Babina Noko have been a strong, consistent force among the league's top sides, and last season was no different. However, they narrowly missed out on a return to continental competition, finishing just two points behind third-placed Stellenbosch FC. Their recent transfer activity makes it clear they are targeting a top-three finish this time around. Bringing in Miguel Timm from Pirates could prove to be a shrewd move. The experienced midfielder brings composure, leadership, and experience from his time competing at the highest level. His presence in the middle of the park could be a key asset as coach Eric Tinkler aims to guide the team into the top tier of the standings.
